Chapter 690: Quite Shocked

Ambermind Manor, Uptown District, Ravenfell.

All the Agents of the Brotherhood in the city had gathered within Daneli's private library. They were all seated on the long leather couch that occupied the center of the library.

Liriel, Kael, Elrick, and Daneli silently sat, while a few Acolytes of the Brotherhood respectfully stood behind them.

However, one thing common in all of them was the deep skepticism and displeasure in their eyes—and it was all directed towards one person.

Sitting across from them was none other than the patriarch of the Flynn Family, the Rank 3 - Mana Vortex Magus, Brigham Flynn. His daughter, Elysande, was also accompanying him.

Judging from the tense atmosphere in the room, she knew that their allies, the Twilight Brotherhood, were not pleased with her father's actions.

She couldn't blame them. However, she couldn't blame her father either.

"How long do you plan to wait?" Brigham asked flatly, his tone laced with slight dissatisfaction.

Daneli looked at him for a few moments before replying with a faint smile, "We will wait until Adam arrives, my lord."

Brigham looked at the elf for a long time, then at all the other Rank 2 Magi who were looking at him like he was their enemy. Although he was displeased by their behavior, he didn't call them out on it.

Whether he admitted it or not, he was the one who was at fault. Or at least, that's what the Agents of the Brotherhood would have him believe.

"Did Adam say when he was going to arrive? I have other business to tend to. Surely, you cannot expect me, a councilor, to wait here all day?"

This time, it was Liriel Auvryndar who answered. However, she wasn't as polite and diplomatic as Daneli.

"Lord Flynn, I'm sure you realize that Adam had to fight an enemy Rank 3 Magus all on his own," she began. "I'm certain that he's sustained heavy injuries from the fight. The fact that he's even coming here just two days after the battle should be enough to show his sincerity."

She paused for a moment as her blue eyes flashed with contempt. "Oh, that's right. The reason he had to fight the enemy alone is because you abandoned the plan and ran away from the city. I suppose you could show a little patience after having betrayed us, don't you think?"

Brigham Flynn's eyes narrowed and he gazed at the elf with immense dissatisfaction. He coldly stated, "Watch your tone with me, girl. I will not have an outsider speak to me like that. Since you're a member of the Brotherhood I shall overlook your disrespectful behavior just this once—"

"Or what?" A cold voice descended upon the room, causing everyone to turn their heads in the direction of the library entrance.

The tall oak door creaked open and Adam, wearing a set of loose white robes, entered. His eyes were narrowed to a slit and the very aura around him was oppresive and tyrannical.

When the Acolytes of the Brotherhood laid eyes on him, they subconsciously straightened their backs. Their eyes reflected respect, admiration, and even fear.

This was the man known as the Tyrant!

Several years ago during the Stratford Incident, he had killed a Rank 3 Magus. Now, he had once again killed a Rank 3 Magus only two days ago during the Duskfall Incident.

The name of Constantine the Tyrant was slowly growing to be an unsurpassable legend within the Twilight Brotherhood.

So, how could these Acolytes, the Mana Foundation Magi, of the organization not look up to him. One might even argue that Adam's prestige even surpassed most Wardens—Rank 3 Magi—within the organization.

Adam scanned the entire library, his gaze landing on each and every one that had gathered there. When he arrived here, he was in a very bad mood. After all, he would finally be confronting Brigham Flynn who backstabbed him and his allies.

However, when his gaze landed on Elysande, he couldn't help but retract his hostility—albeit slightly.

"Elysande," said he, "when did you arrive?"

"Just last night," she said with a forced smile.

"...I see." Adam nodded.

His gaze then shifted to Brigham Flynn who was glancing at him with a complicated look. Then, he shifted his attention back to Elysande, "I don't wish for you to be in this meeting."

He considered Elysande a good friend of his—someone who he had fought alongside with in many battles against the Umbra Thieves. As such, he didn't want her to witness the brutal humiliation he was going to deliver to her father.

No matter the reason Brigham gave to him, he was not going to have it. Or at least, that's what he thought when he arrived here.

Elysande immediately looked at her father who nodded to her. Then she rose to her feet and walked toward Adam. She stopped beside him and softly said, "Adam, I hope you understand that whatever he did, he did it for me. Please… be considerate."

Adam's brows creased into a knot as he looked at her. He then nodded.

After Elysande left the library, shutting the door behind her, the room turned even more solemn.

None of the people from the Brotherhood spoke a word. All of them waited for Adam to begin. After all, he was the one to suffer the most from Brigham's absence on that night.

Brigham, on the other hand, quietly gazed at Adam. He, too, didn't speak a word.

Adam conjured a round, clay gourd from his obsidian hoop earrings. He uncorked it and then nonchalantly started drinking straight from it.

He took one step, then another, and then another as he paced around the seating area, not speaking a word, just silently enjoying the wine.

One minute passed.

Two minutes passed.

Five minutes passed.

Finally, Brigham Flynn couldn't hold his displeasure in any longer. He looked at Adam and spoke in irritation, "Is this how you treat—"

"Shhh." Adam put his finger to his lips, rudely gesturing him to shut up.

This caused Brigham Flynn to grow even more furious. However, he controlled his anger and remained silent. Subconsciously, a part of him didn't want to know what would happen if he didn't.

"I'm quite shocked, you know," said the raven-haired youth after he finally finished the whole bottle and kept it away. He walked around the seating area and stood right behind the Flynn Patriarch.

Although Brigham Flynn felt uneasy having him stand behind him, he spoke nevertheless, "I had to do—"

Adam interrupted him again, "I'm quite shocked that you would have the courage to show your face after what you did."

A terrifying aura radiated from him, causing not just Brigham Flynn's but everyone's heart to sink to the coldest depths of the abyss.

"Old fool, did you think I'd spare your life?"
