Chapter 807: Humbling Experience

Pain assaulted every fiber of Adam’s being. The last thing he remembered was being covered in wind blades from all sides.

And then, everything turned dark.

It would appear that he had indeed bitten off more than he could chew.

The difference between each arcane rank increased the higher one ascended. Furthermore, Adam was also a newly advanced Mana Vortex Magus.

There was no chance that we would be able to deal with an attack from a powerful Mana Core beast!

“Ugh…” He grimaced in pain as he slowly opened his eyes.

His gaze was drawn to the unfamiliar ceiling above him. “Where am I?” He muttered softly, his tone laced with confusion.

He tried to get up, but found that every inch of his body was desperately resisting his commands.

“Ugh!” He groaned in agony and lay back down. He lowered his head and noticed that his body was covered in white bandages that had already been stained by his blood.

Just what the hell happened?! He thought in alarm.

He tried to recall the memories before he was knocked unconscious. Several minutes later, he finally surmised what had really happened to him.

His lips curled into a wry smile. I overestimated myself, he thought.

I became… arrogant.

This was truly a humbling experience for him. Ever since he had advanced to the Mana Vortex Rank and killed those Rank 3 Magi from the cult, he felt like he was invincible. He felt like nothing could stop him.

And during his travels in the Southern Federation, he constantly overheard the legends of Dark King no matter where he went. The people of this land admired him and treated him no different than a god.

This fueled his ego. However, standing in the presence of the four great guardians of the secret plane and even taking an attack from them fixed his attitude.

There was always a taller mountain to climb, a higher peak to conquer, a stronger Magus to surpass!

The razor-sharp wind blades cast by the white eagle had effortlessly cut through his Great Barrier like a hot knife slicing through lard.

He was absolutely no match for it!

“I still have so much to learn…” He exhaled a deep sigh as he gazed at the ceiling.

He looked inside his spirit sea and found that Valerian wasn’t there. But through their familiar connection, he could sense that the young dragon was nearby.

The youth closed his eyes and sent a mental transmission to him. Minutes later, the door to the room swung open, and Valerian stormed inside.

“Val, no… no, no!” Adam was alarmed to see the young dragon pounce on him. “Ackk!!”

“Myu!” Valerian fondly licked the youth’s cheek. “Brother, you are finally awake!”

“It hurts…” Adam groaned in misery, “Get off me… I can’t breathe!”

Valerian stepped aside and sat beside him, his furry face laced with concern.

“How long was I out for?” Asked the youth after gathering his bearings.

“I think ten days,” said the young dragon. “Perhaps more. Definitely less than two weeks, though.”

“… I see.” Adam’s lips twitched. “Looks like I was seriously injured.”

“The white eagle said you passed the test, brother!” Valerian beamed.

“Huh?” Adam was taken aback. “But I…”

“You still remained standing after the spell was cast,” said the young dragon. “You were able to withstand a Rank 4 spell!”

Valerian seemed to be very excited about the whole outcome. He couldn’t be prouder of his brother.

However, Adam was perplexed by it. He had lost consciousness as a result of resisting that spell, so in his mind, he had failed.

Come to think of it, he mused. That spell was actually the most powerful and devastating attack I have ever faced.

I guess it’s something that I haven’t died already…

Recalling the dozens of wind blades that had pierced his mana barrier and left ghastly wounds all across his body, his back was drenched in cold sweat.

The eagle said she’d go easy… Was that truly going easy on me?!

“Brother, can you walk now?” Valerian asked eagerly.

“Why, what is it?” Adam glanced at him with curious eyes.

“Sir Joker showed me the vault!” The young dragon said with bright eyes. “It’s even bigger than ours! Also, it is filled with magical artifacts. You must see it! You must see it!”

“A vault bigger than mine?” Adam was taken aback. He felt that the underground vault in Saratoga was fairly big and filled with riches.

To have a vault even bigger than that…

Actually, it makes sense, he thought. Magus Mathias was a powerful being and had even traveled to several planets in the Greater Universe.

His eyes flashed with a peculiar light, and he couldn’t help but smirk.

I’m sure he has many magical items and ingredients from the Greater Universe in the vault!

Thinking of this, his smirk turned into a wide grin.

He quickly conjured a potent painkiller from his earrings and chugged it in one go. Then, he conjured several healing potions and consumed them as well.

With great difficulty, he got to his feet. Although the pain had slightly alleviated, most of it still remained. Moreover, his injuries were deep enough that they couldn’t be healed by regular potions.

“Alright, let’s go, Val.” He walked towards the door, thinking to himself about how he would obtain the valuable things inside the vault.

This was the least the Joker could do for him after putting him through so much pain and misery.

Hmph, just you wait! Adam mused to himself.

I swear I will bleed you dry!

The two exited the room, with Valerian leading the way as he guided Adam through the corridors towards the vault where the Joker was waiting for them.

Adam was lost in his thoughts as he absentmindedly followed behind the young dragon in the dimly lit corridor.

The artifacts and the magical ingredients in the vault are secondary, he thought.

His eyes lit up with a spectacular light as anticipation filled his heart.

I can finally uncover the truth about the twin moons…

And their connection to the Greater Universe!
