The custodian smiled and said, "You're right. There is a lot to be afraid of. But if you are not afraid, I shouldn't worry."

The man became silent after that. Only the sound of the boiling potion and the shuffling of the box on the table could be heard in the room.

Legion glanced at the box and thought to himself, "You're just wasting your time. No matter what you do, I won't be fooled."

He said that to himself because it would be a waste to say it to the box since divine flesh can't be communicated with. Divine flesh is not a living thing after all.

Despite its ability to move and induce temptation in the living things around it, divine flesh is a dead thing. It is the flesh of a powerful being who was slain and butchered to pieces.

The consciousness of that powerful being has been wiped out until all that is left within the divine flesh is the instinctual will to live and some of the power of that powerful being.

The will to live is why the divine flesh is always trying to hitch a ride on any living thing around it. It is why it is tempting then to take it. It is not because it is generous enough to want others to gain power. It simply wants to gain life through others.

From what he knows, he suspects that when enough divine flesh comes together in the same person, it is possible for the will of the powerful being that was butchered to awaken within the person.

So divine flesh is very dangerous. Yet, acquiring more and more divine flesh and assimilating it is the only way to gain more power.

He thought to himself, "Humans call it ascension, but it might as well be resurrection."

While he was thinking to himself, the custodian was finally done with the potion.

He switched off the firestones and said to Legion, "Let's do this."

The potion was ready. The next thing to do was to shackle and bind Legion before he could take the potion and make the attempt to become a godclad.

To that end, the custodian took him to another room. The room was empty and dark. The only things in the room were thick metal chains attached to shackles that were meant to bind his hands and legs.

The chains were as thick as his arm. There were four of them for all four of his limbs. He was to bind himself with them, which will make it easy for the lamp bearers to kill him if he fails the assimilation process and mutates.

Legion didn't think these precautions were necessary. Throughout his numerous lives, he had never died because of mutation. Murder was the main cause of his deaths. So he wasn't worried about failing to assimilate the divine flesh, but he allowed himself to be tied up.

The captain also came to witness the event and help with binding him.

After he was shackled securely, the custodian said, "According to the will of the god of justice, you have been informed extensively and warned of the dangers involved in becoming a godclad. You were not coerced to go through this process, and you were even dissuaded several times and asked to rethink your choices."

"I swear on the god of justice that this is so and that you are going through the process of your free will."

The captain also swore that no one forced him. Then he was given the potion to drink.

The potion was bitter and nauseating. But it was very effective.

The effect of the potion came five minutes after drinking it. His emotions calmed down, and his face became dull.

The anticipation he had been feeling throughout the day for the power of a godclad became silent and subdued. After another five minutes, the anticipation disappeared completely.

All of his emotions had disappeared. What was left was a dull, unfeeling, and unthinking statue. If there is something that he feels strongly about, it is that he can stay in the cold, dark room forever without feeling anxious.

It was then that the box containing the divine flesh was opened. The box was opened above his head so the content fell on him.

What came out of the box was red flesh. The red flesh slithered across his body for a while, sensing its environment. It was like a slug. Its movements were slow and unhurried.

Usually, such close contact with it would induce a frenzy within the person and make them go mad in an attempt to swallow it. But Legion didn't feel any longing for it. He only stared at it with mild interest.

He could already resist its temptation before he was numb to the world. Now that he has the assistance of the potion, even direct contact with the divine flesh was not enough to induce a frenzy within him.

Since he didn't take any action to begin the process of fusion, the divine flesh had to take the initiative. After it was sure that he was a living thing, it spread itself across his skin.

The divine flesh became so large that it covered all of his skin from head to toe. Then it began to melt into his skin.

There was a little pain, but he didn't feel much of it. He didn't resist throughout the process even when his skin felt like fire.

He held on through the pain. Then he held on through the pleasure. He didn't let anything divine flesh did to break his mind or make him distracted. He didn't give up his will at all.

After the divine flesh fused with him, his hair and eyes turned red. He felt power course through his body like never before. He felt as if he was a god. It was intoxicating.

All he needed to do was think of something, and he would achieve it. He had the feeling that as long as he wanted, he could achieve anything.
