Chapter 136: TRUTH BE OUT

YUNO actually felt better after revealing that he was an E-Class Guide.

Now he could finally meet his fellow Top 5 Guides with a clean conscience.

Anyways...

After Yuno revealed that he was an E-Class Guide, Bambi asked the Espers to leave the conference hall.

Surprisingly, even Ki Gayoon obliged without a complaint.

I wonder what Hyung is up to.

"Yuyu, don’t worry too much," Moon Noa whispered to him. "I’m sure Yoonyoon won’t cause trouble."

"I’m not thinking about Hyung, Sajangnim," Yuno lied with a straight face. "Not at all."

"Guide Noh Yuno-ssi?"

"Yes, sir?"

"I asked Esper Ki Gayoon-ssi to give me a proper report of the enemy you’ve encountered at Esper Lee Sarang-ssi’s house," Bambi said sternly. "But Esper Ki Gayoon-ssi ignored my order. He even warned me not to ask you to make a report— which I can’t do because we need to hear the details of your fight. We allowed you to rest since you two fought well. But we’re still waiting to hear your report."

Aigoo.

Hyung’s overprotectiveness makes him look unprofessional.

But Yuno couldn’t really get mad at Ki Gayoon since he knew why his Esper acted that way.

Jacob Hyung-nim is a part of my past, after all.

Ki Gayoon probably refused to make a report because doing so would mean that he had to reveal Yuno’s connection to the attacker.

So, Hyung is only trying to protect me. I appreciate that. However...

"I apologize on my Esper’s behalf, Team Leader Bambi-ssi," Yuno said, standing up with his hands folded in front of him politely. "I will give a verbal report now, if that’s okay with you."

"Yes, but this will be recorded. Is that fine with you?"

Yuno turned to Moon Noa first, and then his boss nodded encouragingly. Only then did he turn to Bambi again. "Yes, sir. I’m fine with being recorded while giving my report."

"Alright," Bambi said, and then he pointed at the space next to him. "Esper Lee Sarang-ssi already sent us a report, but we still need your account of what happened that day."

Okay, so here goes nothing.

"Then let me start by giving a brief explanation of my life in the Lab as an E-Class Guide," Yuno said politely. "I know I can just start by reporting Esper Ki Gayoon-ssi’s fight with the opponent that we faced that day. But I feel the need to introduce you briefly to my world. I promise it’s important."

"Alright," Bambi said, nodding. "Feel free to share your story, Guide Noh Yuno-ssi."

"Thank you, sir."

Yuno then took a deep breath first.

Let’s try not to overshare.

"While I was in the Lab, the E-Class Guides were separated from A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, D-Class, and F-Class Guides," Yuno started with his story indifferently. "At the time, Sajangnim— I mean, Guide Moon Noa-nim, was Korea’s sole S-Class Guide. Since Guide Moon Noa-nim is a chaebol, the Lab couldn’t force him to join us."

Moon Noa smiled proudly. "Yes, that’s right. I didn’t like their vibes. So, I just donated a huge amount of money to the Lab to get them to leave me alone~"

Right.

After all, the chaebols practically ran the country after the apocalypse.

Anyways...

"The E-Class Guides, back then, weren’t taught how to guide," Yuno said, pausing for a moment. "We were taught how to fight like Espers." freewebnøvel.com

Everyone in the room gasped, except for Bambi and Moon Noa.

"H-Hyung..." Kim Jaeha called Yuno, his face full of worries. "So, were you raised to be a weapon against Espers?"

"Jaeha-ya, if I could kill Espers easily, I would have killed a handful already— especially those Espers who sexually assault Guides," Yuno said casually. "Unfortunately, I failed in that aspect. I was the top E-Class Guide, but I was a failure as a ’Hunter.’"

’Hunter.’

That was a term that confused and intrigued everyone in the room.

Except for Moon Noa who already knew about Yuno’s past.

"Everyone here knows about the Guides’ so-called ’Father,’ right?"

As expected, everyone there nodded.

There was a time when the important figures known as ’Father’ (for the Guides) and ’Mother’ (for the Espers) had complete control over the Awakened People of South Korea.

No thanks to Sajangnim’s evil grandfather’s support.

"In the Lab, ’Father’ chose twelve outstanding E-Class Guides that he called ’Disciples.’ The first six Disciples were called the Upper 6, and the other half Lesser 6," Yuno continued with his explanation. "The leader of the Lesser 6 was Jacob Hyung-nim— the opponent that we Esper Ki Gayoon fought that day. His main weapon is a walking cane studded with Cores stolen from dead Guides."

All of them were Guides, so it was only natural that the atmosphere suddenly turned cold.

"That walking cane secretly absorbs the Mana of Espers within a certain area," Yuno explained. "It also has the power to nullify an Esper’s skills."

"Yes, that’s included in Esper Lee Sarang-ssi’s report," Bambi said, nodding. "How about the small dungeon monsters? According to Esper Lee Sarang-ssi’s report, that person brought monster ants with him. Is he a monster tamer?"

"As far as I know, Jacob Hyung-nim doesn’t have the ability to tame monsters, sir. I suspect it was Bibi Noona who released those monsters when she opened the Warp Gate," Yuno said. "Bibi Noona has the ability to create portals, but there are restrictions. She can only use her ability twice a day. Once she activates her Warp Gate for the first time, she can open several portals at once. However, when she activates her Warp Gate for the second time on the same day, she can only open one portal."

"Now I understand why Guide Jae-ssi kept yelling ’Bibi’ during the interrogation," Bambi said while nodding. "So, I assume that this ’Bibi’ we’re talking about saved ’Jacob’ instead of Guide Jae-ssi and Guide Eun Rina-ssi."

"Yes, that was probably what happened," Yuno agreed while nodding. "In the Lab, E-Class Guides that are only meant to be used as pawns are called ’baby chicks.’ That’s why Guide Jae-ssi and Guide Eun Rina-ssi acted recklessly on purpose. They wanted us to focus on the baby chicks while Jacob Hyung-nim was stealing Guide Choi Kangmin-ssi’s Core."

Sadly, those poor baby chicks don’t even know they’re only pawns— they truly believe they have become Disciples due to either the Upper 6 or the Lesser 6’s brainwashing.

"They probably used the same tactic when they killed Guides in China and Japan," Bambi said, side-eyeing Moon Noa. "It’s a shame that the Japanese and the Chinese government refuse to work with us, isn’t it? Instead of cooperating, they want to take Guide Jae-ssi’s custody away from us when the Korean government did all the work."

"I can ask Haruharu to convince the Japanese government to negotiate with us," Moon Noa said, smiling. "But I can’t do anything about the Espers sent by the Chinese government here."

"That’s plenty of help already, Guide Moon Noa-ssi. Thank you," Bambi said politely. When Moon Noa just smiled, Bambi turned to Yuno again. "Guide Noh Yuno-ssi, you may continue with your report."

"Yes, sir."

Yuno then proceeded to report how the fight between Ki Gayoon and Jacob had transpired.

Like a reporter covering a live event, blow-by-blow.

Everyone, including Bambi, laughed when he reached the part where Ki Gayoon pulled out a normal gun in a supernatural fight.

But it worked, so hats off to Gayoon Hyung.

"And that’s the end of my report."

"Thank you, Guide Noh Yuno-ssi," Bambi said. "Now tell us more about the ’Disciples.’"

"Only Jacob Hyung-nim and Bibi Noona have been confirmed to be involved in this case," Yuno said bluntly. "I know that there’s a huge possibility that the organization behind the serial killing belongs to the Disciples who survived the raid. But I can’t simply give away information without ensuring my safety first."

"And what do you mean by that?"

"The culprits we’re looking for are E-Class Guides, and I’m an E-Class Guide," Yuno reminded the Team Leader. "If the government suddenly orders you to hunt down all E-Class Guides, then I’ll die."

Bambi knitted his eyebrows. "Excuse me?"

"It already happened once during Sajangnim’s grandfather’s reign," Yuno said, reminding everyone that the Lab existed because of Moon Noa’s grandfather, a former Korean President. "I was the lone survivor of the batch of E-Class Guides that the Disciples killed before escaping."

"You weren’t a part of the Disciples, Hyung?" Kim Jaeha asked, surprised. "I thought you were one of them."

"I failed to become a ’Hunter’ since I’m a Guide through and through, so they tried to eliminate me," Yuno said, shrugging. "That and because I started a rebellion."

"Yuyu— I mean, Guide Noh Yuno-ssi was the reason our raid succeeded," Moon Noa said, speaking formally since it was a serious setting. "The records of our raid back then would guarantee that Guide Noh Yuno-ssi has nothing to do with the Disciples."

"Even so, Guide Noh Yuno-ssi can still help us locate those Disciples. We may have caught the culprit who killed Guide Choi Kangmin-ssi, but that doesn’t mean this case is over," Bambi insisted. "We need Guide Noh Yuno-ssi’s cooperation."

"I didn’t say I wouldn’t cooperate," Yuno said, clearing the misunderstanding. "I’m saying I need the three power players of South Korea to ensure my safety as an E-Class Guide before I talk— and those three power players would be the government, the National Guide Bureau, and the Esper Association."

See, Gayoon Hyung? I may not be that desperate to live, but I’m not suicidal.

Yuno wished Ki Gayoon could see him fight for his safety so that his Esper-slash-boyfriend would finally stop thinking that he was "actively" trying to kill himself.

"You have to prove first that the information you have is valuable, Guide Noh Yuno-ssi."

"Of course, sir."

Bambi let out a sigh. "I’ll schedule the meeting— but it may take a while since we need to wrap up this serial killing case first."

Yuno nodded. "Yes, sir."

It was a favorable result.

After all, I want to tell my story to Gayoon Hyung first.
