Guide to tamming vilanesses-Chapter 50: Annoying fairy
Shin’s fingers tightened around the tiny fairy, still pinching her like an insect. She squeaked again, wings buzzing uselessly as she struggled in his grip.
"Why did you take her appearance?" he demanded, his voice low and sharp.
The fairy blinked up at him, unimpressed.
"How aggressive..." she said, annoyed. "You’re lucky I’m programmed to be patient."
Shin’s eyes narrowed.
"Answer."
The fairy sighed dramatically. Then, without warning, her body flickered. A small burst of light popped between Shin’s fingers, and she teleported away, reappearing a few feet in front of him, floating smugly with her arms crossed.
"I’m just a system interface, you can’t kill or even hurt me," she said, tone smug. "You should know that."
"Why her?" he repeated.
The fairy’s expression softened just slightly. To Shin’s fury, she had the same smugness and provocative smile as his wife.
"I didn’t choose her," she said. "I took the appearance you loved the most in your memories."
Shin went still. For a second, the inside of the car felt colder.
"Change it," he said immediately.
The fairy made a face.
"I can’t."
Shin’s jaw clenched. "You won’t."
"I can’t," she repeated. "It’s locked the moment the system manifests. This is my form."
"Fine," he said, visibly irritated. "Then at least change your voice."
The fairy gasped, offended. "My voice is perfect."
"It’s not," Shin replied instantly. "It sounds just like her."
She hovered there, glaring at him, then rolled her eyes with exaggerated annoyance.
"Ugh. Fine." She cleared her throat, and her voice suddenly turned robotic. "Would you rather hear this monotonic voice?" she asked provocatively.
"Yes. It’s much better," Shin exhaled.
Of course, the fairy knew his memories and had deliberately chosen a voice he wouldn’t like. But even that was still better than hearing his deceased wife’s voice coming out of her mouth.
"Now, can you let me introduce myself properly?" she asked, putting her hands on her hips and pouting.
Shin agreed with a small nod.
The fairy smiled happily and glowed with a golden light.
"I am your helper fairy," she declared. "I’m like a system screen, but much better. Oh! And I just decided, my name is Lilel, so call me that."
"Okay, Lilel," Shin sighed, taking a long breath to calm down.
He knew he had overreacted, but he simply couldn’t avoid feeling angry. The idea of someone wearing his wife’s face disturbed him on a deep level.
But he needed to be rational. So he started the engine of his car. He was probably already late, and he still needed to get a gun.
"I don’t have much time, so we’ll talk on the way," he said.
’Okay!’ Lilel answered, except her words didn’t come out of her mouth. They echoed directly inside Shin’s head.
Shin stiffened. "Wait, is that...?"
’Telekinesis?’ Lilel completed smugly. "Yes, I’m incredible, aren’t I? I just learned how to do it!" she said, spinning around his head while flying clumsily through the air.
Shin got the impression she was also learning how to fly.
Wanting to prove she wasn’t special, he concentrated for a few seconds and finally managed it too.
’It’s not that complicated,’ he replied telepathically. ’So now that the introductions are done, tell me. What is my system? What power do you give me? Why was the name blank? And why did the screen fail?’
"Too many questions!" Lilel complained, sticking her tongue out as she grabbed her own head like she was in pain.
Every time Shin asked something, her mind automatically analyzed all the information she had. But because she still hadn’t fully read through Shin’s memories, the process overloaded her.
"I believe the reason for the error is you," she finally answered, pointing at Shin. "As you may have noticed, I read all of your memories."
Shin nodded. "So that includes my past life?"
"Yes," Lilel confirmed. "I have all the memories of ’Shin’ from this game world. And the memories of your soul that took his body. The system was supposed to analyze all those memories, but a normal interface couldn’t handle that much information."
"So the screen had to evolve into you," Shin concluded.
"Bingo!" The fairy did a little loop in the air.
Whenever a system became too complex or too powerful, it needed to evolve. And in very rare cases, it gained a level of sentience and a body, just like Lilel.
"But it’s too weird..." Shin murmured. "There should be only five or six characters in the entire game with a system that powerful. How did you even come to exist?"
"I don’t know," Lilel shrugged. "I also don’t know what power or what name your system has."
"In other words, you don’t know anything... so useless," he complained and stopped the car.
"I’m extremely useful!" The fairy complained.
"Ok, ok, just make yourself invisible, I will go buy a pistol, because thanks to your awakening, I didn’t get the levels I was counting on."
"Why do you need a gun?"
"You have my memories, don’t you?"
’Yes, but I haven’t read them all. Don’t be an asshole!’ Lilel complained, speaking telepathically, because Shin had left the car.
The fairy despaired and watched as Shin got into an alleyway shop that barely looked legal from the outside.
A rusted sign hung above the door, the windows were dark, and the man behind the counter didn’t even bother asking for an ID.
Shin put cash down, chose a compact pistol, checked the weight, then grabbed a box of ammo and left.
Coming back, he slid into the driver’s seat, hid the gun in his backpack, and accelerated to his destination.
His phone was already buzzing with complaints for his sister. He was almost half an hour late.
Shin needed to take one of Yumemi’s friends home first. After that, he would head to the mall, where his sister, another friend, and one of the guys were already waiting.
This arrangement was perfect for him because it meant he would have some alone time with one of the girls. In this case, it was a woman named Aiko.
He soon reached her apartment building. She stood outside with her arms crossed, foot tapping impatiently. Obviously, she was annoyed with waiting.
Aiko wore glasses, and freckles crossed the bridge of her nose. She had a cute face and applied little makeup compared to Yumemi.
Her outfit was a calculated display. The black cropped hoodie left a tantalizing strip of her toned midriff bare.
Below, she wore high-waisted skinny jeans. They gripped the sharp flare of her hips and the full, round curves of her ass with obscene tightness, the deep blue fabric looking seconds from tearing at the seams.
Her angry pout vanished the second her eyes landed on the car. The frustration melted into wide-eyed shock, then morphed into a smile of keen interest.
She quickly tried to adjust her hair, trying to look pretty.
Shin emerged from the car, and, of course, his appearance did him no favor. Still, the Ferrari gave him a lot of credit. Aiko decided she wanted to at least know him better.
"Aiko? I’m Shin, Yumemi’s brother. My apologies for the wait," he said, his voice calm and confident.
"Oh! I, uh... It’s fine! Really!" she stammered, her earlier anger completely forgotten, her eyes darting from his face to the car and back.
He closed the distance. With a gentle, firm pressure at the small of her back, he guided her towards the passenger door.
The moment his hand made contact, a warm, pleasant shiver radiated from the point of touch through her whole body, a subconscious thrill that made her breath hitch. Naturally, he was using his skill.
"After you," he said, opening the door for her. His hand brushed her arm as she slid in, sending another wave of that delicious warmth through her.
Inside the luxurious cabin, the scent of leather and power enveloped her. But as Shin settled into the driver’s seat, she was able to feel his perfume; it was great.
"This is... quite a car. Not what I expected," she blurted out, her eyes wide. "I didn’t know Yumemi’s mom had something this nice..."
"She doesn’t. It’s mine," Shin lied, his tone arrogantly casual as the engine purred to life. "Bought it with money I make working online."
He glanced over, letting his gaze drag over the way the cropped hoodie hugged her small breasts and the jeans constricted the full curve of her ass.
"Actually, my mother doesn’t know about it. She didn’t want me buying a car better than hers." He gave a conspiratorial smirk. "So could you keep it a secret?"
"Sounds like her," Aiko said, blushing a little. "Yumemi always complains she’s a bitch." She immediately looked flustered at her own word choice, not used to such casual venom.
"But what do you mean, an online job?" she asked, curiosity cutting through her nerves.
Shin wove a tale of vague but impressive-sounding digital consultancy, using terms just complex enough to sound legitimate but hollow enough to avoid detail.
’You are such a liar,’ Lilel said in Shin’s mind, but he ignored her.
"Wow," Aiko breathed, genuinely impressed. She shifted in her seat, the movement making the tight denim strain across her thighs. "It’s like... you’re on a completely different stage of life than us. Doesn’t hanging out with high school girls seem boring to you?"
"I’m only a year older than you," he reminded her, his hand lingering just a moment on her thigh before returning to the wheel. "And there’s nothing boring about it. I’ve already found a beautiful gem." He said, looking at her.
Aiko’s face flushed with heat, embarrassed by the situation. She fumbled for a new topic, her eyes darting to his chest.
"It’s L-Luffy, right?!" she stammered, pointing clumsily at the graphic on his shirt. "He’s... he’s the best!"
She desperately changed the topic, chickening out of the flirtation. She was too nervous and didn’t want to seem like an easy girl.
"One Piece is awesome. I love it," she said, lying. She’d read a couple of Chapters and had heard her older brother talk about it nonstop.
She was a nerd, but preferred Harry Potter or dark romance books. However, she knew enough about anime to keep a conversation going.
Shin had little interest in talking about it, so he masterfully steered the conversation, asking pointed, insightful questions that felt deeply personal.
Soon, Aiko was talking about how she felt out of place among Yumemi’s more social friends. That was actually the first time Yumemi had invited her to one of these group dates.
Before she knew it, Aiko had spent ten minutes talking about herself, and they were arriving at the mall where they would meet the group.
"Oh. We’re here already," she murmured, the disappointment clear in her voice. "I wish we had longer to talk like that...."
"Don’t worry, just give me your number, and I can give you all the alone time in the world later."
Aiko blushed profusely after hearing that. Meanwhile, Shin was stopping in front of Yumemi and her friends, who were naturally in shock seeing the Ferrari.
