Chapter 199: the wonders of chilli

The bamboo shoots that she had collected were better than the ones that were found in the dimension where she lived. They were neither too hard nor too soft. They were just perfect. They would taste really good if she made kimchi out of these bamboo shoots; she was sure that it would taste really good. Ruan Chanchan licked her lips just thinking about it.

"What are you two doing?" Xie Daiyu walked inside the cave as if it were his own home and took a look at the noodles that were resting inside the pot. His eyes lit up when he saw the noodles resting in the pot, and he walked over to where Ruan Chanchan and Ruan Zeqiu were sitting. He took a look at the slightly reddish noodles and knew that there was something added to them, as he had never seen the noodles turn into this fancy and pretty colour before.

Ruan Zeqiu rolled his eyes. Already upset at the fact that his noodles were about to be snatched.

Of course, Xie Daiyu knew that the mer was upset with him. He suppressed the twitch of his lips and placed the two giant chunks of meat that he had brought with him. One of them weighed more than two kilograms. However, orcs had good appetites, and this piece of meat could only be counted as a little snack, but it was still big in comparison to what others would bring when visiting others.

Ruan Zeqiu only snorted upon seeing the meat; he had no interest in this little bit of meat, which could only fill the gaps between his teeth. Ruan Chanchan also looked at the meat with a little smile. Ever since she regained a little bit of faith energy, her appetite had grown a bit more. Now, even she felt that the meat was a bit less.

But she was much politer and smiled at Xie Daiyu before saying to him, "You didn’t have to bring the meat."

Xie Daiyu knew what Ruan Zeqiu was thinking. He rolled his eyes and said to Ruan Chanchan, "I got this from my mother; no one has gone to hunt this morning. This was the only thing that I got after asking my mother." He sat down next to Ruan Chanchan and softened his tone. "But don’t worry, I will bring more meat for you."

"Why will you bring more meat for my sister?" Before Ruan Chanchan could say that there was no need, Ruan Zeqiu exploded. "My sister has enough to eat with me; why are you jumping in between? If she wants to eat more meat, then I will bring it for her. You do not worry."

Xie Daiyu smiled softly. He glanced at the mer as if he was speaking nonsense and said to him, "Zeqiu, you are forgetting that I am her partner. More than you, I should be the one taking care of your sister."

"Are you saying that I cannot take care of my sister?"

Xie Daiyu pursed his lips. "I didn’t say that. I simply said that, with you being too busy to take care of your sister. Were you not?"

Ruan Zeqiu slowly got to his feet as if he was about to pounce on the mer and kill

Ruan Chanchan was speechless when she saw the two mers fighting. But when she saw that the fight had escalated to the point where the two mers were about to throw punches, she raised her hand in the air. "Woah, woah, woah... easy there, champions. Just what the hell are you two doing? Why are you suddenly starting a fight?"

Her voice snapped the two mers out of their frenzied rage. They whipped their heads at the same time to look at Ruan Chanchan. While Ruan Zeqiu was upset that his sister was taking sides with the mer whom she had known for less than a few weeks, Xie Daiyu was filled with joy. Ruan Chanchan, taking sides with him, proved that she finally saw him as a match instead of a partner with whom she could work. At least she stood up for him when it mattered.

However, before he could even shoot a proactive look at Ruan Zeqiu, Ruan Chanchan turned to look at him and said, "Don’t provoke my brother for no reason."

This time around, it was Ruan Zeqiu’s turn to become smug. He shot a provocative smirk at Xie Daiyu, who gritted his teeth so hard that the sound echoed in the silent cave. He hated it so much that he wished to wipe it right off. But could he do that when he was trying to woo this stupid mer’s sister? Xie Daiyu was certain that Ruan Chanchan wouldn’t like it if he were to bury her little brother alive somewhere.

So, what else was he supposed to do other than smile and say, "Of course, I will not provoke him for no reason."

He then turned to look at Ruan Zeqiu before saying to him, "And I am sorry if I sounded like a jerk to you. I was just trying to tell you that there is no need for you to make me your enemy. I have no intention of doing such a thing, like blaming you for something like not taking care of your sick sister. It was never my intention, so do not take it to your heart. How can I ever say that you were not taking care of your sister when you have done your best?"

After he finished speaking, he didn’t forget to shoot a sweet smile at Ruan Chanchan as if he was waiting for her to praise him.

Ruan Chanchan: "...."

She looked at the mer who was looking at her as if he were a proud toddler and had no idea what to make of the current situation. Was she supposed to tell this guy that he was a very good boy and that he had done a really good job?

Ruan Chanchan thought and thought and thought for a very long time before giving in to her instincts to reach out and touch the handsome mer in front of her. No sooner did she do that than everyone in the cave paused. Ruan Chanchan was shocked because she never expected herself to be this bold. How could she even think of touching the big, bad bear as if he were some garden dog? Had she lost her mind? Ruan Chanchan was stunned by the show of real bravery that she had just put forth. Xie Daiyu, on the other hand, was thrilled to the point of no return. His destined one touched him. She actually touched him on the head. This... this was way more exciting than catching a giant beast whose meat could feed the tribe for more than three weeks. His destined one!

Ruan Zeqiu, on the other hand, was filled with such rage that he wished to charge ahead and crack open the head of this stupid mer, who was getting way too chummy with his sister. His eyes were spewing fire as he glared at Xie Daiyu, who didn’t notice anything amiss as he was looking at Ruan Chanchan with his eyes filled with smiles.

Ruan Chanchan pulled her hand away and awkwardly cleared her throat. What was wrong with her, and where did she get the guts to touch the head of a bear the size of an elephant as if he were some kind of pet? Ruan Chanchan felt that she had gotten bolder after staying with this mer because if not, how could she even think of treating this mer so casually?

She cleared her throat and responded, "It’s nothing. We were just trying to test how good these crimson chillies are. Were we not, Zeqiu?" Xie Daiyu could pretend that he could not see the glare that Ruan Zeqiu was shooting his way, but the same couldn’t be said for her. She saw the rage in the eyes of her little brother, and she knew that the mer was not going to leave Xie Daiyu alone if she didn’t change the topic now.

Just as she expected, the mer’s mood changed after hearing her question. "Yeah." He looked quite smug as he turned to look at Xie Daiyu. "My sister made something really delicious for me."

Xie Daiyu didn’t care about the hint of provocation in the tone of the mer. He instead turned to look at the noodles still steaming in the pot in front of him and licked his lips. Turning to look at Ruan Chanchan, he softly asked, "Did you add the crimson chilli in the food given by the gods? Won’t they be angry with you altering their blessings?"

Ruan Chanchan had just taken a bite of the delicious delicacy in front of her when she heard his question. She nearly choked upon hearing the question, and her eyes started to burn because of the spiciness that slowly spread from the back of her throat to her mouth and then all over the front of her eyes. Her expression turned twisted, which scared Ruan Zeqiu and Xie Daiyu.
