Chapter 208: What did you do?

Ruan Chanchan’s eyes lit up when she heard his reply. She took a step forward and took his hand in hers before saying to him, "Who? Who is it?"

"Rong Xian." Yuan Ni gave out the name that Ruan Chanchan was waiting for, and she firmly memorised the name in her heart and mind. Since this person could be of help to her, she needed to remember his name.

When Yuan Ni saw how excited Ruan Chanchan looked, he rolled his eyes and then said to her, "There is no need to look so happy. He is not that easy to recruit; usually, he avoids even meeting with people."

Ruan Chanchan raised her head abruptly. Her beautiful face showed a hint of silliness. "Then why did you even bring him up when he is of no use to me?"

"I never said that he is of no use to you or that he is of use to you." Yuan Ni rolled his eyes at her and said, "I simply told you that there is someone who could help you and our tribe if you manage to win him over. He is the little prince of the giant whale kingdom. If you manage to form an alliance with him, then our tribe will get stronger."

Ruan Chanchan was speechless when she heard his remark. Pressing a hand to her forehead, she said to him, "But I don’t need someone in the distant future. I need someone to help me with these piles of things. Do you think I can ask a prince to pick these things up for me and sort them out?" even if she had eaten the gall of a leopard, he wouldn’t dare to do so.

What was this mer even thinking? Ruan Chanchan couldn’t help but ask inwardly.

"Oh." Yuan Ni raised his eyebrows. "I thought that you wanted to deal with the black snake tribe and that was why you asked someone to help you."

"Where did this thought even come from?" Ruan Chanchan asked with a look of bewilderment on her face.

"You were the one who asked me how many totem warriors were in the tribe. You even said that you don’t need a slave... then what else was I supposed to think?"

Ruan Chanchan: "..."

Xiao Xi: "..."

Ruan Chanchan turned to look at the system floating beside her with a look of sheer disbelief. It was as if she couldn’t believe that the mer was actually jumping the gun like that.

But to her surprise, Xiao Xi turned to look at her and said in a rather solemn voice, "Well, truth be told, darling. This might be on you."

Ruan Chanchan: "..."

Idiots. I am surrounded by a lot of idiots. Thought Ruan Chanchan with a throbbing headache arising in her head. She turned her head to one side and rolled her eyes before suppressing the anger and frustration rising in her heart. "Then did you understand what I want now? Can you bring me someone who can work alongside me to deal with these raw materials that I have collected?"

"Sure." Yuan Ni didn’t think it was much of a problem. Compared to someone who could take down the black snake tribe, this was much easier. He had a good friend who could help Ruan Chanchan. He couldn’t help Ruan Chanchan, but he could ask someone trustworthy enough to follow Ruan Chanchan. He needed time to train his body, and without enough vitality or sufficient spiritual energy, he wouldn’t be able to cultivate.

Because he wanted to take revenge, Yuan Ni knew that he could only do that after becoming the priest of the tribe. Without it, he would never be able to deal with the black serpent tribe that caused the death of his parents.

"Alright, then take me to him." Ruan Chanchan didn’t ask about Yuan Ni’s concerns; after all, which person didn’t have a secret or two? She had no intention of getting involved any further than she already had with Yuan Ni.

"I will bring him over." Yuan Ni hurriedly stopped her. How could he possibly let Ruan Chanchan go and look for his friend? If his grandmother found out that he made Ruan Chanchan work when he was there with her, then she would be so furious that she would whip him dead.

"There is no need. Why would you bring him over when I can just meet with him?" Ruan Chanchan refused without showing any panic, even though inwardly she was filled with anxiety. If the elders in the tribe saw that she was making the priestess’s heir run around for her, who knows what they might think?

When Yuan Ni heard her response, he tilted his head to one side. Seeing this, Ruan Chanchan simply smiled at her and said to him, "I just want to take this chance to understand the tribe more." As the one who needed to save this tribe, Ruan Chanchan knew that she needed to understand more of this tribe and the living conditions of the tribe’s people.

"Okay." Yuan Ni nodded helplessly when he saw that Ruan Chanchan was determined to follow him.

The tribe was quiet, with most of the totem warriors headed out to hunt. It was only when they reached the territory where the orphans and the elderly were basking in the sun that they saw some life. The children were fighting, or rather, playing or rolling on the ground. Ruan Chanchan knew that they were mock-fighting to get stronger before their awakening and didn’t think much of it.

"They are living better," said Ruan Chanchan as she noticed the orphans growing a bit fatter than before. Their weak and hollowed faces were a bit fuller, and they looked healthier.

"It’s all thanks to you." Yuan Ni smiled and nodded while silently agreeing with Ruan Chanchan. "You were the one who came up with the idea of making dried meat, and it helped the chief. Now she distributes the meat without worrying about the totem warriors getting hungry."

"Really?" Ruan Chanchan frowned. "Are you telling me that they got this healthy with just dried meat? What did they use to eat before?"
