Guide To Train My Beast Husbands-Chapter 239: I asked you to stay obediently (II)
And that was not all. The river guardian hurled her right into the battlefield.
With a splash, Ruan Chanchan was thrown out of the water and flew straight to the sky.
Ruan Zeqiu and Yuan Ni: "..." It’s raining, Ruan Chanchan.
Ruan Zeqiu ran forward and then caught her midair, staggering back. "Are you insane?!"
Ruan Chanchan didn’t say anything. She gasped and shuddered. Inside the water, she didn’t feel cold at all, but now that she was out of the water, Ruan Chanchan felt terribly cold.
"I think," she said, pointing to the river that was roaring behind them. "I just made a deal with the river."
The ground trembled once again, and the river guardian rose fully from the river.
The python clutched its pearl and screamed as the river guardian seemed to have gotten even bigger. As the guardian rose, the sky started to darken.
Yuan Ni whispered, horrid and in awe. "...This is not how I thought today was going to go."
The river guardian opened its jaws, and the river started to froth and bubble.
The river answered.
And it did not whisper; it roared.
Water started to surge upward in towering arcs, slamming into the python’s coils with the force of a falling mountain. The beast shrieked, feeling unjust and angry. He was not even doing anything; he didn’t even fight back, so why was he being treated like this? The beast shrieked, and its body started to skid across the shattered cliff. Seeing this, Yuan Ni hurled another set of seals at the python.
Though the beast did nothing to them and even fell back when he saw the river guardian, the word was about the strongest surviving. The size of the beast was big enough for them to eat for a long time. If he killed this beast, maybe his grandmother would hit him lightly if he were to bring something for the tribe to eat. In fact, he was very much aware of the fact that after this, he was totally going to get beaten by his grandmother.
After all—
He turned and looked at the woman lying in Ruan Zeqiu’s arms and pursed his lips. Her condition was really – really soaking!
Ruan Zeqiu helped Ruan Chanchan sit up straight. She then clutched Ruan Zeqiu’s wrist. "Okay, I think I might have underestimated this task."
"What do you mean by saying you underestimated this task? You have made friends with the guardian of the river!" Ruan Zeqiu sarcastically snapped at her. "That is no escalation to make such a big beast so ...." He turned to look at the river guardian, who was getting angrier with each passing second. "Friendly."
The river guardian reared back, its jaw opened wide.
However, just as it was about to attack them, it suddenly froze, and its massive head tilted to one side.
Slowly.
Confused.
The water stilled.
Ruan Chanchan frowned when she saw that the river guardian had stopped attacking them. "Uh...what is going on? Why did it suddenly stop attacking us?"
Yuan Ni’s eyes widened. "Uh oh..."
A deep, thunderous roar echoed from the forest.
But this time it was not a guardian or python.
It was something else. Something much heavier and something very...very annoyed.
The undergrowth exploded as a massive bear burst through the clearing, fur in the cloud of ash and iron. Totems imprinted on his fur were glowing a shade of burning amber. It reared onto its hind legs and slammed its paws into the ground. The impact alone was enough to send a shockwave through the battlefield.
Ruan Chanchan’s mouth dropped open, and so did Ruan Zeqiu’s.
Ruan Zeqiu stared at the bear and gulped hard. "Aunt Ye?"
The bear turned to look at him and snorted heavily. Behind her echoed another roar.
This time, it was much deeper and familiar.
A second bear emerged, slightly smaller than the first one, but it was broader and more muscular. Its movements were slow, deliberate and controlled. Its dark eyes landed instantly onto Ruan Chanchan and softened but there was a hint of blame in those dark eyes.
Ruan Chanchan felt her chest tighten when she realised who it was.
"Oh no." She breathed. "He is going to kill me."
The second bear shifted, and the sounds of bones cracking and turning smaller echoed in the clearing. The fur slowly receded, and in place of the bear, Xie Daiyu appeared. He pushed his long hair off his face and, with an expression that was so calm to the point of being terrifying, turned to look at Ruan Chanchan.
He took in her bedraggled appearance before turning to look at the river guardian, the almost dead python and Yuan Ni.
He closed his eyes and breathed out.
When he opened them, even though the storm within those eyes had not calmed down, at least it was a little restrained.
"Ruan Chanchan."
Ruan Chanchan winced upon hearing his tone. "Yeah??"
Silence.
Ruan Zeqiu closed his eyes and turned to look at Yuan Ni, who was already digging three graves. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"What are you doing?"
"I have a feeling that we are going to get buried here tonight."
Ruan Zeqiu: "..."
Xie Daiyu ignored the two mers and then walked toward Ruan Chanchan. Every step that he took was measured, controlled and filled with a deadly calm. He stopped right in front of her and looked at her. His gaze moved up and down, and he said, "You promised that you would stay at home and that too obediently."
She winced. "In my defence, I did stay in the cave for like an hour. So I was indeed obedient."
Aunt Ye, who was still in her bear form, let out a huff that sounded suspiciously like a fit of laughter.
Behind them, the python, who had finally received some relief from the seals that were tormenting him, raised his head and finally decided to strike these damned people who were after his life; since they won’t let him live, he was going to take at least one of them down with him!
