Chapter 498: Chapter 97 Patient

The operation began, and they surrounded the building where Moriarty was located. The curtain of rain perfectly concealed their figures; if you didn’t deliberately look, ordinary people couldn’t even discern them from the darkness.

Red Falcon and the others were still approaching, but another person had already breached the building first. He originally shouldn’t have participated in this operation, but perhaps out of anger towards that sin, Joey insisted on joining. He wanted to personally interrogate that doctor.

That disturbing memory was Joey’s shame, and something he least wanted to mention. He rarely got angry, except when it came to that time.

This was a courtroom. Night Owl was the overseeing judge, Red Falcon and Bluebird were the jury, and Joey was the plaintiff as well as a witness. They were there to judge that bizarre doctor.

The infiltration went smoothly without any resistance. Stepping lightly like a ghost, soon Joey found himself at the door to Moriarty’s room, with Red Falcon and the others arriving belatedly behind.

Joey was holding a large-caliber Revolver, deciding against using the Aluminothermic Rifle indoors as it could easily cause a fire if mishandled. They neither had the time nor the means to evacuate others in the building.

As he recalled the image of that damned doctor in his mind, Joey tightened his grip on the gun, debating whether to knock or to break in.

A slight noise was heard, akin to the crisp sound of a finger snap. Though faint, it was clear, well masked by the cascading rain, like a woman’s soft sigh echoing in everyone’s ears.

For an instant, everyone felt something eerie, yet couldn’t pinpoint what it was. Then, an undeniable thunderclap sounded, the lightning so intense it seemed to tear through the heavens.

The thunder rumbled, causing all the glass to tremble violently. Unavoidably, everyone’s gaze turned towards the window, the pale white light illuminating half the night sky. For a moment, Joey even perceived it as the burning eyes of the Demon Hunter.

The next moment, the illusionary world connected with reality. Amidst the confusion, the creaking sound emerged, and the room door was slowly pushed open.

Joey still seemed dazed by the thunder, but then he raised his gun towards the door, faced by a different face, a familiar face.

Moriarty, wearing glasses, seemed as though he knew Joey and the others were coming, dressed in a fitting suit.

"I thought you would arrive sooner."

Joey, with a cold expression, seemed unprepared for the night’s turn of events. Red Falcon came up from behind, raising his gun with cautious eyes towards Moriarty, while Bluebird entered the room wielding a Folding Blade.

Once they had control over Moriarty, the others stormed into the room, conducting a quick search and confirming he was alone.

Moriarty, as if aware of what was to come, raised his hands nonchalantly and retreated, finally sitting back on the couch in the living room.

Before Joey and the others could state their purpose, Moriarty spoke directly.

"I know what you’re here for. Here is my identification, a pass for Black Mountain Hospital, and these..."

The low table was already filled with documents related to Moriarty. He smiled without a trace of fear from having several guns pointed at him.

"You have quite a good attitude."

Night Owl took no interest in those documents, instead intrigued by Moriarty’s reaction.

Though it was unclear how he obtained information about Joey and the others’ arrival, he showed no fear, didn’t run, and even prepared everything while waiting for them.

Was he innocent? Even so, he was too calm, abnormally calm.

"It’s natural. I’m a doctor at Black Mountain Hospital, after all, facing those patients with strange ailments every day... You must have been there at least once, right? Those overly enthusiastic patients aren’t easy to handle, but I’ve grown accustomed to working amid the wails of those madmen."

That wasn’t a pleasant scene, yet Moriarty talked about it with ease, as if everything now and at Black Mountain Hospital had long been accustomed to him.

Night Owl realized that this operation had become complicated.

"We suspect you..."

"I know, I know. When I met Mr. Joshua here, I became aware of it." Moriarty looked at Joey with a smile. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Joey’s face was reflected in the clear mirror, the man’s gaze filled with composure and mockery.

Joey suddenly felt a hint of unease, as if facing a bizarre venomous snake, as if he had already walked into his trap, completely unaware.

At this moment, another flash of lightning brightened the sky, shaking everything around. Perhaps sensing the wrath of that unknown God, the room lights flickered, and in the flickering light, the pale lightning reflected on Moriarty’s glasses, igniting like fire, only to extinguish instantly.

Moriarty confidently controlled everything, while those before him had no idea what they were truly facing.

Night Owl’s gaze turned icy; he might have been the first among them to realize Moriarty’s danger. According to their original plan, they would forcibly break in, then conduct an erosion judgment during interrogation to preliminarily assess Moriarty’s condition, but this guy had disrupted everything.
