Harem Link Cultivation System-Chapter 42: The Sect Above the Clouds [1]
The ice platform kept rising, smooth and steady, and the wind pulled at Lin Tian’s robe while he watched the clouds thin below them.
Bai Xueya stood near him, straight and calm, yet he noticed how her hands stayed too still at her sides, and that small stiffness told him she felt the same pressure he did even if she refused to show it.
He leaned slightly closer and spoke in a low voice, "You look calm, but I know you well enough now to see when you are holding yourself too tightly, and if this place makes you uneasy you do not need to pretend for my sake."
She kept her eyes forward and answered softly, "I am not uneasy about the sect itself, I am thinking about what happens once we land, and I do not like that they will separate us immediately even though we arrived together."
Lin Tian let out a small breath and muttered, "They were always going to do that, and if they treated me like anything more than a provisional outsider it would only draw more suspicion toward you, so this is better even if it feels cold."
Her fingers twitched once, then she said quietly, "I know the logic, I simply do not like it, and I would rather face the pressure together than pretend we are strangers under their rules."
He gave a faint smile and replied, "We are not strangers, and rules do not change that, they only make the path a little longer."
Before she could answer, Elder Shen’s voice drifted across the platform, calm and sharp.
"Disciple Bai, you understand your placement once we arrive, and I expect no delay or argument when attendants escort you."
Xueya straightened slightly and answered with clear respect, "I understand, Elder, and I will follow the arrangement."
Elder Shen paused, then added in that smooth tone that sounded gentle but felt like frost, "And the provisional candidate will remain in the outer quarters, he will wait for evaluation, and he will not wander without permission."
Lin Tian bowed lightly and said, "I understand the rules, and I will not cause trouble for the sect."
Elder Shen glanced at him briefly, eyes cool.
"It is good that you understand, young man, many outsiders believe talent excuses impatience, and the sect does not tolerate that kind of thinking."
Lin Tian kept his posture steady and replied, "I came here to learn my place first, and anything else can wait."
Her lips curved faintly, almost amused, and she turned away without another word.
The wind grew colder as the platform climbed higher, and soon the cloud sea opened, revealing the Azure Snow Sword Sect spread across the peaks.
Lin Tian’s breath slowed as he stared, then he murmured softly, "I knew it would be large, but this feels like a world built above the sky."
Xueya glanced at him and said quietly, "This is only the outer ring of peaks, the inner mountains are hidden behind formations, and even I have not seen everything yet."
He looked at her with mild disbelief and replied, "If this is only the outer part, then the people trained here must carry expectations heavier than entire cities."
She answered, "They do, and that is why the sect pushes everyone hard, no one is allowed to remain comfortable here."
Lin Tian nodded slowly and muttered, "Then I will get used to discomfort quickly."
The platform lowered toward a wide stone plaza where dozens of disciples already waited, their conversations fading as they recognized Bai Xueya.
Whispers rose anyway.
"Senior Sister Bai is back."
"She looks stronger than before."
"Who is the man beside her."
"That must be the fiancé."
"The one from Cloudcrest."
"I thought he could not cultivate."
Lin Tian stepped off the platform calmly, hearing every word yet keeping his face steady.
He leaned slightly toward Xueya and said under his breath, "I expected curiosity, but I did not expect them to talk like they were watching a performance."
She answered quietly, "Ignore them, they always watch anything unfamiliar, and after a few days they will move on."
He replied, "I am not worried about the watching, I only do not want it to put pressure on you."
She shook her head lightly. "Their opinions do not decide my choices."
Elder Shen moved forward and spoke aloud, "Resume your training, this is not a spectacle."
When no one moved, her aura pressed down slightly, and the disciples scattered quickly.
A tall elder approached, bowing to Shen.
"Envoy Shen, welcome back, we prepared everything as requested."
She nodded and gestured toward Xueya.
"Disciple Bai returns for monitoring, assign her to Frostheart Residence and arrange a healer assessment immediately."
The elder bowed. "Understood."
Two attendants stepped forward and bowed deeply.
"Senior Sister, please follow us, your residence is ready."
Xueya hesitated for a fraction of a second, then turned her gaze toward Lin Tian.
He met her eyes and spoke quietly so only she could hear, "Go, settle in first, I will manage here and we will talk once the rules allow it."
She replied softly, "Do not let them push you too hard, and if anyone makes things difficult, remember you do not need to prove everything on the first day."
He smiled faintly and said, "I plan to survive the first day before proving anything."
Her shoulders eased slightly, and she gave a small nod before walking away with the attendants.
Lin Tian watched her leave until Elder Shen’s voice pulled his attention back.
"Lin Tian."
He bowed. "Elder."
She studied him briefly and said, "Your lodging is in the outer candidate quarters, you will stay there until evaluation ends, you will not access inner areas, and you will not seek Disciple Bai without permission."
Lin Tian answered calmly, "I understand, and I will follow the sect’s arrangement."
She held his gaze as if searching for resistance.
"You accept that very easily."
He replied, "I came here knowing my position, and I do not expect special treatment simply because I arrived beside her."
Her expression softened by a fraction.
"Good, many people talk about humility, few show it when it matters."
She turned to the other elder.
"Elder Qiao, begin his induction, I will observe later."
Qiao nodded and gestured for Lin Tian to follow.
"Come with me, candidate, the outer quarters are not far, and I will explain the rules on the way so you do not make mistakes out of ignorance."
Lin Tian followed, then asked quietly, "May I ask something, Elder, I want to understand the expectations clearly so I do not step over any lines."
Qiao glanced at him with mild curiosity.
"You may ask."
Lin Tian said, "What matters most during the provisional period, strength, obedience, or results, I want to know where to focus my effort first."
Qiao chuckled softly.
"If you try to focus on only one of those, you will fail, the sect watches all three, they want strength that follows rules and produces results, and anyone lacking one of them rarely lasts."
Lin Tian nodded thoughtfully.
"Then I will start by learning the rules quickly, and build everything else from there."
Qiao replied, "That is wiser than trying to impress people with a reckless display."
They reached a quieter stone path leading toward the lower buildings, and Lin Tian looked back once toward the higher terraces where Xueya had gone.
Qiao noticed and said in a calm tone, "If you worry about her, you should not, Frostheart Residence is safe, and the sect values her talent too much to treat her carelessly."
Lin Tian answered honestly, "I am not worried about her safety, I only dislike that she must face pressure alone while I stand outside the inner circle."
Qiao gave a small nod.
"That feeling will motivate you to climb faster, and many disciples rise exactly because they refuse to stay separated from the people they care about."
Lin Tian exhaled quietly.
"Then I will take that as encouragement rather than frustration."
They stopped before a row of simple but clean buildings.
"These are the outer candidate quarters," Qiao said, "you will stay here, training grounds are to the east, dining hall to the south, and evaluation notices will be delivered directly, so do not wander unless called."
Lin Tian bowed slightly.
"Thank you for the explanation, Elder, I will settle in and wait for instructions."
Qiao turned to leave, then paused.
"One more thing, do not assume people will ignore you just because you stay quiet, word about you already spread across the sect, so expect attention whether you want it or not."
Lin Tian smiled faintly.
"I suspected that when half the plaza stared at me."
Qiao laughed once and walked away.
Lin Tian stepped into the small courtyard assigned to him, closed the gate, and let out a slow breath.
He muttered softly to himself, "New place, new rules, and a long climb ahead, but at least I am not starting from nothing anymore."
A faint pulse from the Link stirred in his chest, gentle but clear, and he knew Xueya had felt something too.
He looked toward the distant peaks and whispered quietly, "Settle in well, Xueya, I will catch up soon."
The cold sect air moved through the courtyard, sharp and clean, and Lin Tian stood there for a moment before stepping inside to begin his first day above the clouds.
