Harem-Powered Kingdom Building: Empire of Carnal Sin-Chapter 47: Danger!
Chapter 47 - Danger!
"Are you kidding me!?" Vasquen exclaimed. "Why is there such a big difference between yesterday's raid and today's raid?"
"Now is not the time to think about that!"
"Can we see what level it is?" someone shouted.
Hiro was observing all of this happen during his leisurely stroll through the woods with Hema. Right, he wasn't actually rushing at all. He had also killed a few monsters that seemed to have come for Hema.

[Inspect Sense] allowed him to not only see what Tara was seeing but also hear what she was hearing. He was quite interested in knowing what level the Hill Giant was.
'If it is too high level, I might really have to teleport back,' he thought.
Targon was the first one to use his [Monster Appraisal].
"Level 40..." he said.
'Oh, that should be quite manageable,' Hiro thought.
"What rarity are these things usually?" one of the Shuvlok tribesmen asked.
After a brief silence, Fiona was the one who answered. "Hill Giants are never Common. From what I know, most of them are Rare or Elite. This one is just called 'Hill Giant,' so it is unlikely that it is Unique."
By this point, the Hill Giant was close enough to see them all clearly. It stood still for a few seconds, its eyes scanning the settlement.
There were two differences between this Hill Giant and the one that Hiro had fought, apart from it being female. First, there were fewer cracks on its body. Second, it was holding a massive wooden club in its hands.
"Everyone, get ready!" Targon shouted. "Unfortunately, we don't have a tank or a healer, so I'm not sure what the best way to do this is..."
"Easy. Just don't get hit," Barbara said matter-of-factly.
People wanted to scold her for that answer, but alas, there was no time.
"Sadly, she's right," Targon said. "Melee! Get close, pester it, harass it, and if you can, try to do some damage around its ankles. But most importantly, focus on dodging. DO NOT block each other. And ranged! Aim for its face. Its skin is very tough, and your attacks won't do much if you hit its chest. It's best if you can get its eyes."
By the time Targon was done giving instructions, the Hill Giant also looked like it had finished appraising them. It started charging forward, dragging its club with it.
"It's best we don't fight next to the barracks," Barbara said before darting forward.
As the one who proposed the 'Just-Don't-Get-Hit-Duh' strategy, she decided to show them how it was done.
Just like houseflies were usually faster than humans, humans were also generally faster than Hill Giants.
When Barbara approached it, she ended up grabbing the giant's aggro, causing it to attack her. But she combined her impeccable footwork with the mobility skills of her class, the Feral Spellfist, allowing her to weave between the giant's attacks.
She ducked under a wild swing, her fist crackling with magical energy as she struck the giant's knee. The impact caused the giant to stagger but not topple over.
"You guys plan on doing something?" she asked loudly.
Seeing her fight like that, the others also gained some confidence. Shuvichi was the first to run forward, followed closely by Targon.
While running, Shuvichi uncorked a potion from his pouch and gulped it down in an instant. A translucent white aura surrounded both him and his blade.
Barbara attacked once more, and Shuvichi followed it up instantly by slashing out with his blade. The result of the attack was quite underwhelming, however. It only left behind a shallow wound on the monster's leg. Such a wound would barely impede its movement.
The giant retaliated by swinging its club in a brutal arc. Shuvichi managed to leap back just in time to avoid getting crushed under the weight of such an attack.
While the giant was still recovering from its previous attack, Targon saw his chance. With both hands gripping his greatsword, he lunged forward, delivering a powerful overhead strike to the giant's ankles while its legs were bent.
This attack was more effective than Shuvichi's. The blade dug into the monster's flesh until Targon could feel it against its bone. Thick, dark bluish blood seeped from the wound.
Unlike the goblins and the harpies, this monster seemed capable of expressing emotions, at least to some degree. However, it was still far less expressive than a regular hill giant.
This was evidenced by how the giant snarled in pain upon receiving Targon's attack.
Arrows flew toward it from a distance but failed to pierce its eyes. Even when they struck other parts of its face, they simply bounced off.
Fiona's magic exploded in front of its face, but all it did was make the giant more frantic, making its movements harder to predict.
The fight dragged on. Tara and a few others stayed back without doing anything because their levels were too low for their attacks to have any effect on the monster.
By this point, the giant had many small wounds on both its legs. If they kept up their assault, they would eventually be able to kill it.
But there was a problem. A few of the melee combatants might get seriously injured or even die before that could happen!
They were already running out of stamina. The need to avoid making even a single mistake drained their focus even faster.
"This isn't working," Vasquen muttered from a distance.
"Is it just me, or is this giant constantly getting better at fighting?" Shuvichi asked, wiping some sweat from his brow.
"It's probably just us," Targon said, somewhat out of breath. "Our movements are getting sloppier."
A few others stood behind them, but their contributions were minimal. Barbara had been the fiercest fighter among them.
But eventually, it became clear that she wasn't perfect either.
The hill giant raised its club in an attacking motion. Barbara moved to the side of the giant's leg, fully planning to exploit such an opening. But then, the giant did something unexpected.
With great vigor, it raised the leg closest to Barbara and brought it down for a quick and powerful stomp.
A feint!?
'Shit!' Barbara thought as her punch hit empty air. She leaped back, trying to recover as quickly as she could. She barely avoided being crushed, but the shockwave alone was powerful enough to send her crashing some distance away.
"Barbara!" Shuvichi shouted in panic.
As if completely unconcerned for his own safety, he darted forward and attacked with his blade, trying to draw the monster's attention.
But the monster ignored him entirely, the same way a girl would ignore a relentless and uncharismatic suitor.
Instead, it charged toward the downed Barbara and raised its club, this time in earnest. It was going for the kill!
People shouted. Some screamed. Worry and disbelief covered their faces. The worshippers of Goddess Selune and God Korun did not exactly get along. But after seeing Barbara fight valiantly for so long, even the Selune worshippers did not want her to die like this.
"My Lord! Where are you!?" Tara practically screamed through the telepathic link.
Hiro also felt that he had played the role of a spectator long enough. Perhaps his timely intervention would even manage to crack the tough shell of the proud Barbara?
But before he could interfere, someone else did.
All this time, only people with combat classes stood outside. Everyone else holed up inside the barracks in fear. In most normal Realms, it wasn't common for people to encounter or even see a living monster! People were usually safe within the walls of their towns and cities.
Everyone who stood outside was so preoccupied with the fight that they failed to notice the presence of the man who had emerged from the Refugee Arrival Station.
