Chapter 137: Mary’s scream

A guttural gurgling sound pierced the air, sending a dangerous signal to everyone around the forest.

In the next second, an angry and powerful growl was heard, a message to everyone to take cover from the danger

Audrey was distracted by the sound behind her and the foul smell that permeated the air.

She knew what creature that smell belonged to, and if they had managed to come into the pack, it meant the people inside the pack weren’t safe either, Fleshgolems could appear just about anywhere, as long as there was earth there.

She immediately turned her face to see what was happening, but when she recognized the wolf that had growled at the Fleshgolems as Alpha Lake’s wolf, she instantly removed her hand from the humming magical border and ran towards the creature.

She smartly stretched out her hand, and a nearby branch flew onto her hand; the rough make of the helping her grip it tightly, and in the next moment, she dived into the air, her adrenaline pumping through her veins as she pierced the branch into the creature’s rotten head.

An annoying gurgling sound was heard before the creature fell to the ground, and in the next second, it turned to dust and seeped into the earth.

Regal quickly ran to her, sniffing her all around for any wound.

Audrey sighed in relief and patted Regal’s head.

"I’m fine, Regal, I’m fine," She whispered to the wolf.

"Great one," Green bowed to Audrey.

"I’m sorry I couldn’t get here in time to warn you, the flesh golems..."

"It’s alright Green, I’ve seen," Audrey patted Green’s shoulder.

"We need to warn the people inside the pack. Ride with Sebastian and warn them, tell the warriors to be vigilant, and make sure they protect everyone. The Fleshgolems may be very strong and swift, but they are Killable. Go," Audrey ordered her.

Green bowed and immediately mounted back on Alpha Sebastian’s wolf and they speedily ran back to the pack.

Audrey turned back to see the witches holding up the border; she knew they wouldn’t be able to hold it for much longer without her help; it would drain them. But she could not stay either; she needed to fo kill those creatures; she was sure they’d have swamped the forests by now.

"Make it strong enough! You can join the rest when you’ve felt the core!" Audrey said to the witches holding up the border.

But just when she was about to run into the forest with Regal and Andrew’s wolf, the earth vibrated vigorously, followed by the shooting out of sand from the earth, causing everyone to close their eyes from the dirt.

Before the sands went down, the heavy eerie wind already carried the foul smell into everyone’s nostrils, notifying them about their new visitors.

"Fucking zombies..." Audrey muttered as she stared at more than a hundred Flesh golems.

"The border can stand for a while longer, kill these zombies!" Audrey shouyedbatbthe witches.

"Target their head, baby," She kissed Regal’s head before jumping over him and lounging at the dark creatures.

The witches immediately obeyed, taking their hands off the border and instantly firing white balls at the creatures. They were using the purification method, using pure light to cast away their darkness by making sure to engulf them in their light.

But it required a lot of skill and concentration, for one had to hold a dark creature in a ball of white light for up to six seconds before it could finally disintegrate. And if you don’t have the skill and concentration, it will break out from the white purifying fireball and attack you, stronger and angrier.

For those who did not possess the skills, they chose to fight them physically.

Audrey, too, chose to fight them physically, not because she could not kill them with her white purifying ball, but because she just thought it was a lot easier escape for them. She preferred to use her strength to pierce or decapitate them, it gave her more satisfaction.

Regal and Andrew were fighting nonstop; they were surprised by the creature’s speed; unlike your regular slow-moving zombies, these were very fast and agile; it wasn’t something they couldn’t handle.

They jumped on their limbs, flying straight off their target, the creature’s head, and using great force to bite their heads off their shoulders.

Gurgling, bone-breaking sounds, skin-slashing sounds, and the zapping of the white lights were heard all over the place.

Feet stumped and grunts of survival filled the air. The foul smell of the Fleshgolems was enough to cripple someone, but, they fought on, showing no signs of backing down.

Audrey saw that they were on the winning side but did not rejoice, for she knew that this was just the beginning of something more dangerous.

"Guru," Audrey suddenly heard a Fleshgolem behind her, but before she could turn, the creature pushed her to the ground by her shoulder and quickly bit down on her shoulder.

"Argh! Fucking flesh eater!" She groaned painfully and punched the creature away from her shoulder. But the creature was fast, it immediately got up and dived her leg.

"Challenge accepted," Audrey grunted and kicked the creature away, quickly standing on her feet.

She had wanted to use her white light to end the damn flesh eater but saw how resilient it was and decided to give it a worthy death.

"Come on, looser!" She said to the creature.

"Graaaaaa!" The Fleshgolem shrieked and dived at her.

Audrey moved back a little before jumping up in the air, too; when she was almost close to the creature, she stretched out her leg and delivered a heavy kick to the creature’s head, sending it flying to the ground.

It fell, struggling to stand on its feet as Audrey landed with her legs between its lower back.

"Alright, play times over," She said and picked up a sharp branch and instantly pushed it through the creature’s head.

The yucky sound of a stick piercing rotten flesh sounded all over the place, and in the next second, the flesh golem disintegrated and seeped into the earth.

She looked around and saw that only a few people with the wolves still fought with the creatures, but it wasn’t long till they killed all the creatures. Alpha Lake’s wolf, Regal, growled very loudly, raising its face to the sky.

He indicated that they should move on, sensing danger in another location of the forest.

Audrey was about to move toward Alpha Lake when a scream reached their ear from within the forest.

"Mary!" She snapped her head in the direction of the scream.

"Everyone, hurry! We need to get there immediately," Audrey ordered and sprang into a run.

She ran, the wind zapping across her face, low branches slapping her face and arms but she didn’t care. All she cared about was getting to Mary and helping her.

Regal soon ran beside her, and they were silently giving each other the support they needed.

Audrey felt bad; she had wanted to speak with him before things got to where it was, but she didn’t; she promised herself to apologize to him after everything was over.

"What the - Ugh!" Audrey fell on top of Regal and stumbled down a little slope.

He had suddenly appeared before her to block her path, and she couldn’t understand why.

They tumbled and only stopped when they hit a large tree behind them.

"Ugh! Why did you...shit," She lowered her voice when she saw the huge Carnifex that was walking toward them.

She stared at Regal who had his to guess out, quietly panting as his grey eyes stared into hers.

’So you were trying to save me,’ Audrey kissed his head.

She remained quiet, waiting for the Carnifex to get closer so she could kill it with the huge stick beside her.

But, just when she was about to recharge out her hand for the stick, Mary’s scream was heard again, and before she could react, the Carnifex speedily ran off in the direction of the sound.

"Oh no!" She said and quickly stood, the wolf standing on all fours.

"We have to hurry. Who knows what Mary was fighting against?" Audrey said and, once again, ran off with Regal; this time, their speed was increased, and urgency in the sounds of their feet and paws as they pounded on the earth.

They quickly reached there before the Carnifex did. It was another huge clearing, and at the center, warriors were gathered around Mary, who was held hostage by a Flesh golem.

Audrey frowned, quickly running towards them; she couldn’t understand what was going on. Why would warriors just stand and watch a creature of dark torment and eat their members?

She even frowned harder when she noticed Alex in front of the circle, she had never felt such disappointment wash over her before.

On another thought, she thought that Elena had succeeded in using black magic to hold them still, but when she got to see the person holding Mary hostage, her heart broke into a million pieces.

"Sandra?" She whispered in a shaky voice.
