Chapter 106: Season Finale V

Adam stared at the creature, his eyes wide like saucers.

At this moment, his mind was screeching through a full-system diagnostic.

"What the hell am I looking at?"

Adam said out loud in confusion.

More importantly...

"How the hell is it moving right now?"

Time was still frozen as the rest of the world was locked in place.

However, it was the creature’s actions that made him anxious.

As its horned head tilted again while smiling at him.

A slow, unnerving curl of scaled lips pulled back to show long, needle-like teeth, and scary-looking eyes.

But what was even more surprising was the fact that the creature could talk.

"...Brother."

Adam flinched at the very word.

"The hell?"

He muttered.

To say he was taken by surprise would be an understatement. He was utterly shocked at this thing’s choice of words.

He stepped back, hand twitching near the hilt of his conjured blade. But the creature didn’t attack. Nor did it move. It just kept smiling as it remained as calm as a still wind.

Then, with slow and almost reverent grace, the serpent lifted the end of its massive tail and extended it toward him.

Looking at it from where he stood, it almost looked as if the serpent wanted him to take its tail

Like an invitation.

Adam’s danger sense still wasn’t screaming, which felt like a damn lie, but the longer he stared, the more that strange pressure built in his chest.

He also felt a warm connection to this creature.

Like he and it were family of some sort.

A deep and powerful Kinship.

A subtle and powerful connection.

’Why do I?...

He questioned.

Then finish.

"Why do I feel like... I’ve known this creature all my life?"

Against every better judgment he’d ever experienced.

He took a deep breath and decided to trust this nameless monster.

And grabbed the creature’s tail.

The moment his fingers came in contact with the serpent’s tail, a weird connection was form between them, and then.

A conversation was born.

There were no words.

No sentences.

No language at all.

Instead, Adam was plunged into a storm of sensation. Images, instincts, urges, memories, not his. Not entirely hers, either. But shared... He has finally found out what gender this monster was when this connection between them formed.

The best way to describe this connection was the fusion of both their desire being drawn to the forefront for each of them to witness. That’s what it was. That’s what this kind of communication was. No lies. No embellishment. Just raw, unfiltered want made manifest for both parties to better understand each other.

She wanted to speak.

He wanted to understand.

So they did.

The creature, due to the gap in different levels of intelligence, struggled to shape her own desires into something coherent. She wasn’t used to communicating with more systematic beings.

Not like this.

She was still more monster than a human.

But she tried, in the end, Adam’s desire told her to speak by instinct alone, his monster side would understand.

So the serpent abides.

She... had no name.

Adam’s brow furrowed.

No name? How old are you?

That thought must’ve rippled out because her answer came not as speech, but impression.

Old. So old the stars had shifted in the human world she had once seen... old enough to see star dies, worlds born, cosmic clouds flood out, and withered out, old enough to see new galaxies born, and multiple monster lords throne and dethrone, old enough to see this ancient civilizatioon thribe and rise in power, and also old enough to see them fall and die out one by one.

She was there too, witnessed many things, too many labels out, too many to even form in continuous tale without spending years here, reading each other’s desires.

But seeing was believing.

So she shared some of her memories of the many experiences she has seen in her lifetime.

She showed him flickers.

Skies with two moons.

A world of obsidian trees and rivers that shimmered with blue fire.

Then the decay of stars, and the silence of the void that is left behind.

She showed him wars between monsters, the greatest of battles, and a demonstration of the powers of different monsters.

She even showed him recent events of how Yarquell came here to disturb the peace, turning this place into a base of operations.

She showed him she was strong, but mostly weak; she was a being made for one purpose, so combat-wise, she was not really strong, but extremely skilled at resisting many things that endanger her life.

She hides from battles she cannot win.

And conquer battles she could win, she played it safe for all her life up even until now.

She chose to hide from Yarquella; she was dangerous, a complete Spawn, or Variant as she knew her kind to be.

And that was how things were going to be.

However, all that changed when she sensed a powerful kin nearby, one compatible with her no less, one that had the blood of the Monster King flowing through their veins, and shared direct ties to the royal family of their species lineage.

Albeit young, albeit a stranger, she had to take a risk.

So she had followed him.

And the moment this desire flowed through Adam, his own desire, more simple in natur,e flowed right back into her.

Why?

A feeling surged: recognition, so she responded.

Share blood, there exist 7 bloodlines... they both share the fourth bloodline.... The bloodline of Desires.

"...You’re like me."

Adam whispered.

She nodded slowly.

As much as a serpent could nod.

And this time, the thought was clearer.

But she tried to speak using Adam’s desires and memories she was permitted to take, as a result speech became a little bit easier, but mostly broken.

"Same lineage... Royal blood, I sense... royal one. Grandson... of The Desire."

Adam’s mind reeled.

"Wait...wait, back up. What?"

He said aloud.

The serpent tilted her head. Her body coiled slightly, not in aggression, but in something like curiosity.

Like watching a toddler try to walk.

"You’re saying... I’m what now? Grandson of whom? What is that...like a title?"

"You... are the last of the 4th royal Lineage."

Adam blinked at her.

"...You’re serious... Hmm, Echidna did make me like this, but I thought there were more like us out there."

Said Adam

The serpent’s gaze didn’t waver, but she responded in her own way by projecting the desire within him.

And suddenly, it all made a sick kind of sense.

Adam picked up on the shared desires, yes they were many of the different lines, many royals once upon a time, but after the 3rd great monster war... the different royal monster family started to become things that are more of legend, or things that are so small in number that it can hardly be counted on a single hand these days.

And now that she’d found him, she was ready to ask.

Her form shuddered slightly. The coils of her body curled inward. Her amber eyes dimmed...not in fear, but in something more desperate.

Then she said.

"I need help, brother... Inside me... a child... Last of its kind... Hail from the Line of the 4th... Pure breed like you and I... but remain unborn due to the lack of the subjective monster energy needed for it to prosper... as such remain dormant between life and death until it a certain fire is lit within its unborn body, I am not a proper vessel for it, more own life is keeping it somehwhat alive."

Adam blinked in surprise at the news as he asked.

"Wait, you’re pregnant?"

She struggled for a word.

The image came instead.

Not pregnancy like humans.

More like... incubation.

Hosting.

A sacred responsibility passed through generations of her species.

"My kind... made to preserve. Carry legacies. Save species from extinction. But... my Monster Energy... not enough for one this powerful. For a long time... too weak, as such remain unborn."

Images flared.

Years passing in a blink.

Loneliness so thick it congealed.

Waiting!

Searching for a pureblood with enough power to hail this child into existence.

"Then I sensed you... Shinso! Complete! Whole! Infinite Monster Energy... Your corruption can nurture this child. Please! Help me... Help me complete my purpose... great one!"

Adam exhaled slowly.

He wanted to laugh.

’So it’s just some energy she wants from me, ha... Hmm... well, I don’t mind... I have an infinite amount ot spare to be honest.’

He said to himself while blinking, as he then began to sit on the cold stone floor. His grip still locked firmly on her tail.

As he began to speak.

"So let me get this straight...

He muttered, rubbing his eyes.

"You’re some kind of ancient monster wet-nurse with a special fetus in your gut, and you want me to play spiritual babysitter of sorts, right?"

Her tail coiled tighter around his arm.

He could feel it...hope...desperation.

"Help... and I will give an offering. Not much. But all I can give."

Adam looked at her for a long moment.

Everything about this situation screamed bad idea. But nothing in his gut said trap.

No hunger in her gaze.

No deceit in her presence.

And something deep in his chest.

"...You’re not lying... or trying to trick or deceive me."

He whispered.

"You can’t even lie like this, if you think about it?"

She blinked slowly.

"Only desire to give birth."

Adam sighed, rubbing the back of his neck again.

This day was officially climbing the charts of ’Weirdest Shit That’s Ever Happened To Me.’ for sure.

But in the end, he had made up his mind.

"Alright."

He muttered.

"Fine. I’ll help."

Her body tensed, then relaxed all at once...like a building exhaling.

"Gratitude. Great one... Beyond what you can imagine."

He raised an eyebrow.

"You can really stop calling me that, you know."

She tilted her head.

"...Brother?"

Adam snorted.

"Better. Weird, but better."

A light shimmered at the serpent’s belly...a soft, glowing symbol like a runic seal. It pulsed faintly... but Adam could see a humanoid figure within small... but that thing had a lot of power for being so young, so much so, it already surpassed Clara by 10,000 times, despite being unborn.

And Adam, against every instinct of a sane person, reached out.

His palm hovered over the light.

He hesitated...then let his Monster Energy flow; he wasn’t good at Monster Energy Manipulation, but had a general idea.

But that was enough for a task this simple.

And the moment his corruption flowed within her and the child, the reaction was immediate.
