Chapter 222: Chapter 223: Is He Really Dragon Commander?

"Miss Yue, I understand." Qing’er patted her chest in assurance. "I will arrange everything. You can rest easy."

She turned to leave, but her heart was still filled with immense confusion, compelling her to turn back. "Miss Yue, there’s actually something I’m still confused about..."

Seeing Qing’er’s doubtful expression, Xiao Lingyue slowly walked towards her. "You are my confidante. Speak your mind," she said. "Hesitating like this isn’t like you, Qing’er."

Encouraged by her words, Qing’er gathered her courage. "Miss Yue, I wanted to ask... are you certain that Qin Long is the Dragon Commander?"

Upon hearing this, Xiao Lingyue’s brow furrowed. "What do you mean by that?"

Qing’er bit her lip and said, "Although I have only served you for three years and never witnessed the full might of the Heavenly Dragon Army, I know the legends.

"The Dragon Commander’s military tactics are god-like. He leads the Heavenly Dragon Army from one overwhelming victory to the next.

"The enemy nations have long been terrified of him, so much so that they see soldiers in every shadow.

"It is said that he is even stricter with himself than with his subordinates. He is decisive, merciless, and holds sway over the world.

"In the hearts of countless warriors, he is a living legend, a True Dragon.

"But Qin Long, he..." Qing’er’s voice trailed off.

Xiao Lingyue, however, continued her thought. "He was ambushed when his body was overstrained and he was at his most exhausted," she explained. "Now that he has been reduced to needing someone to care for him, he naturally won’t appear as dominant and divine as he once was."

When Xiao Lingyue finished speaking, Qing’er instantly understood.

"I understand, Miss."

She truly couldn’t reconcile the man she knew as Qin Long with the legendary Dragon Commander. That was why she had harbored such doubts about his identity.

"You are a cautious girl," Xiao Lingyue said softly. "I know you are only thinking of the greater good.

"But Qing’er, a phoenix must pass through nirvana to be reborn, so what then of a True Dragon? Do you understand what I mean?"

As Xiao Lingyue spoke, a hint of helplessness touched her lovely face, and Qing’er nodded emphatically.

"This is exactly why I’m so satisfied with him now," Xiao Lingyue continued, a trace of moisture appearing in her beautiful eyes. "So many people who fall from the heavens into the abyss would crumble, yet he serenely accepts it all. Such endurance is rare in this world.

"But the Dragon Commander can endure it. He knows what he wants, and he is constantly striving for it. How many others would have given up completely?"

At her words, Qing’er had a sudden moment of realization.

"His first priority now is to regain his strength," Xiao Lingyue explained. "With his body in this weakened state, he has to keep a low profile. He must wait until his health and power are restored before he can reclaim his glory.

"Besides, do you think our Emperor would allow a cripple on a crutch to command the Heavenly Dragon Army?"

Xiao Lingyue had laid all her thoughts bare.

With utmost respect, Qing’er gave a crisp military salute. "Miss, I understand now. The Dragon Commander truly is a remarkable man. He is lying dormant."

A wide, toothy grin spread across Qing’er’s face as she spoke excitedly. "When he returns, he will be even more powerful!"

"The Dragon Commander’s endurance has always been formidable," Xiao Lingyue said, a dangerous glint in her eyes. "Right now, he is enduring this bitter humiliation.

"When he returns in glory, those traitors will pay with their blood.

"By then, it won’t just be the minor Wang Family. Even the Marquis of the Rivers and King Jiangtian himself will have to kneel beside him, trembling in fear."

Qing’er’s heart pounded in her chest.

She understood now. Qin Long was merely biding his time, recuperating before he soared into the heavens once more. How could a king who once vanquished myriads of enemies with his sword ever be content with mediocrity?

「The next day.」

Zi’er drove Qin Long and Tang Xuewu to the Longquan Grand Hotel. Xiao Lingyue had made it clear that if Qin Long found any of the arrangements unsuitable, she would have them changed immediately.

Qin Long was deeply invested in this matter; after all, he wanted to give Tang Xuewu a surprise.

"A-Long, where are we going? What’s the big secret?" Tang Xuewu asked, looking at him with a puzzled expression.

"You’ll know in a moment," Qin Long said with a smile, pointing toward the nearby Longquan Grand Hotel.

Following his gesture, Tang Xuewu saw the magnificent hotel, resplendent and gleaming. The entire building was decorated with festive lanterns and colorful streamers, making it resemble a phoenix about to take flight.

"A-Long, what are we doing at the Longquan Grand Hotel?" she asked, still confused.

"Nothing much," Qin Long said with a gentle smile as he got out of the car slowly with Zi’er’s help. "I just wanted to prepare a surprise for you."

"This!" Tang Xuewu exclaimed, immediately grabbing the corner of Qin Long’s clothes. "Qin Long, don’t mess around! It’s incredibly expensive here!"

She looked alarmed, trying to signal for him not to go. In the past, they would visit lively street markets. Now, they were at the most luxurious hotel in all of Jiangzhong!

"What are you afraid of? I’m here, aren’t I?" Qin Long replied with another gentle smile.

"This place is too extravagant, we should just..." Tang Xuewu bit her lip, still unwilling to get out of the car.

"Did you forget that I just bought a villa and a courtyard for fifty million?" Qin Long said, flashing the Purple Crystal Card at her.

SWOOSH!

It finally clicked for Tang Xuewu.

Qin Long is rich! He bought the Fish-Dragon King Villa and the Jade Terrace Courtyard in the Jade Dragon District just by swiping his card. A man who can casually spend fifty million can’t afford the Longquan Grand Hotel? What a joke. She had just gotten so used to thinking of Qin Long as a penniless boy. The impression was deeply ingrained.

"Qin Long, I know you have some money now, but you can’t just spend it carelessly, understand?" Tang Xuewu said, staring at him earnestly. "You have to understand that even a mountain of gold can be squandered away through reckless spending."

Everyone enjoys a life of wealth and elegance, but Tang Xuewu was still worried about Qin Long’s future. These riches didn’t matter to her, but Qin Long was different. Without them, he might very well starve.

"Don’t worry, I understand," Qin Long said, gently taking her hand and leading her out while motioning for Zi’er to park the car.

"Mr. Qin, welcome." A hostess standing at the entrance saw them and immediately approached with a warm greeting.

Xiao Lingyue had already notified the owner that a very important guest was arriving today. However, they were to keep things low-key, as the lady did not like ostentatious displays. After all, she and Qin Long were planning a surprise for Tang Xuewu.

The sheer luxury of the Longquan Grand Hotel’s interior left even Tang Xuewu, the former young miss of the Tang Family, momentarily stunned. Although she had been to the hotel before, a top-tier establishment like this always felt surreal.

"Respected Young Master and Miss, how may I assist you?" a handsome young man in a blue suit asked with a professional smile as he approached them.

Hearing him, both Tang Xuewu and Qin Long turned. Tang Xuewu had no idea what Qin Long was planning, so she was at a loss for words.

After a tender glance at Tang Xuewu, Qin Long smiled at the attendant. "My fiancée is quite taken with this place. Take us to see your starry-sky ceiling. We’d like to take a look around the hotel."

"Qin Long, stop spouting nonsense!" Tang Xuewu immediately pinched his arm, then nodded apologetically to the attendant.

The Longquan Grand Hotel? How could they just let you tour the starry-sky ceiling and roam freely? Isn’t he just asking for trouble?
