Heavenly Rebellion: The Human Race's Rise to Prominence-Chapter 36: A Long Fight
Chapter 36: A Long Fight
Once the Black Blood Komodo Dragon was blinded and released his leg, Feng seized the opportunity to strike.
He dashed forward, delivering a powerful kick to the creature's head, sending it hurtling to the side.
BOOM!
The lizard-like spiritual beast smashed into a cluster of nearby trees, breaking several of them in the process.
Feng didn't allow it a moment to recover.
He sprinted toward the downed beast and, channeling dark silver spiritual energy into his claws, drove them straight into the gaping wound on its back.
SLASH!
Feng tore into the Black Blood Komodo Dragon, his spiritual energy wreaking havoc within its body.
The beast howled in agony, writhing from the pain.
However, Feng underestimated the resilience of a seventh-level spiritual beast.
Despite its critical injuries, the Komodo Dragon retaliated, spewing a jet of black, acid-like liquid directly at Feng.
Caught off guard, Feng had no time to dodge.
The corrosive liquid struck him head-on, burning through his clothes and searing his skin.
HISS!
"Shit! What the hell is this? Why does it hurt so damn much?" Feng growled, his body wracked with excruciating pain as the acid burned into his flesh.
Acting on instinct, Feng activated the Blackwood Dominance Art, rapidly absorbing spiritual energy from the surrounding environment and channeling it toward his wounds.
It was as if his body responded like a wounded wolf, instinctively licking its wounds after a fight.
The spiritual energy slowed the acid's damage, but it wasn't enough to fully counteract the corrosive effects.
Feng knew that if he didn't end the battle quickly, he would suffer irreversible harm. Pushing through the pain, his eyes flared with murderous intent.
"DIE!!"
Ignoring his injuries, Feng redirected all the spiritual energy meant for healing into his claws.
The dark silver spiritual energy surged, causing his claws to expand to twice their normal size, looking like it was translucent.
Fueled by rage and desperation, Feng didn't even notice the transformation as he charged at the injured beast.
"Blackwood Dominance Art: WOLF BANE!!"
With a feral roar, Feng drove his enlarged claws into the Komodo Dragon's exposed back.
This final attack, infused with his rage and spiritual energy, was devastating.
The Black Blood Komodo Dragon's body nearly split in half as black blood sprayed everywhere, painting the battlefield in its color as it died in a single powerful strike.
"Hah... hah... hah..." Feng panted heavily, his body trembling from exhaustion.
He hadn't anticipated the fight being this challenging. What he thought would be a straightforward victory had turned into a long and grueling battle.
"Am I... not as strong as I thought I was?" Feng muttered to himself, his voice laced with doubt as he tried to catch his breath.
He glanced at his burned chest and stomach, the pain from the Komodo Dragon's desperate attack still lingering.
"I should probably be more careful about last minute desperate attacks from now on" Feng muttered as he grimaced in pain
[Responding to host: The reason why the host was able to win his previous fights was because the host integrated with his Heaven's Pact.]
"... Are you kidding me? How did I forget something like that?" Feng muttered, his expression darkening as realization hit him.
"Now that I think about it, all this time I've been training, I never actually tried to integrate with my Heaven's Pact—at least, not after learning the Blackwood Dominance Art."
Feng sat down, his thoughts spinning at a furious pace.
"Hey, system, what happens if I try to integrate with the Blackwood Alpha Wolf's (Mutated) Heaven's Pact now?" he asked bluntly, as he took the moment to recuperate from his injuries.
[There will no longer be any possibility of the will attempting to take over the host.]

"That's it? Will it make me stronger?" Feng rubbed his aching stomach, wincing at the sharp sting that followed.
[The host will become stronger.]
"Wow, you really didn't even try to explain that, huh?" Feng said dryly, rolling his eyes as he pushed himself to his feet.
He stretched briefly, testing his body's condition.
"Well, at least now I know that if I'd integrated during the fight, I probably could've taken that thing down much faster," Feng muttered to himself.
His gaze wandered to the defeated Black Blood Komodo Dragon, hoping it might've left something behind.
Dang, there's no spiritual core," Feng said disappointedly.
From what he understood about how spiritual beasts worked, it was very rare for lower-level spiritual beasts to form a spiritual core within their bodies.
This was because lower-level spiritual beasts typically cultivated unconsciously.
A spiritual core would only form for certain once a beast broke through to Foundation Establishment.
"Oh well, whatever. Maybe if I kill enough of these things, I'll eventually find one with a core," Feng said with a resigned shrug.
Determined, he started making his way toward the territory of the Black Blood Komodo Dragons, recalling the system's earlier mention of them being pack creatures.
ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!
Just as he was about to leave, three distinct roars echoed behind him.
Feng froze and turned around, his eyes narrowing as he spotted the source.
Three Black Blood Komodo Dragons were charging straight toward him.
Two were at the sixth level of Qi Condensation, while the third—the largest—was at the seventh level of Qi Condensation.
"Crap," Feng muttered, feeling a knot of tension in his stomach.
"I was planning to pick them off one by one while searching for the alpha.
Guess leaving the corpse out in the open was a bad idea."
A bead of sweat rolled down his temple as Feng started to think about the situation that he's in.
"Can I even take this many on at once?" Feng wondered aloud.
He thought back to his previous fight, recalling how long it took to defeat just one of these creatures.
Second thoughts crept into his mind, and for a moment, he considered retreating.
But before he could dwell on his doubt, the system's mechanical voice chimed in, cutting through his hesitation:
[Would the host like to integrate with his Heaven's Pact?]
