Heiress' Househusband is a Secret Billionaire-Chapter 359: Feels Weird Without Him Here
Chapter 359: Feels Weird Without Him Here
The unyielding confidence in his voice made her beam. Even though she knew close to nothing about what his plans were, her trust in him was unwavering.
"Then, will you... ah, my order’s here. Wait a second."
Lariette ceased talking when her order was called. Rising to her feet, she thanked the staff behind the counter while taking the warm bag and stepped outside.
"Eddy, I’m walking now," she smiled, the yellow light of the streetlamps showered upon her face, "Didn’t you say you’re going to have dinner? Don’t let me keep you here."
Lariette didn’t get to ask Ruediger what was on her mind, but it was alright. They could talk again later.
She knew he had been very busy. He should eat and then rest before another long day began tomorrow.
"It’s fine. Let’s talk until you reach home," he said, voice quiet and affectionate, "I wish I could walk with you."
"Hehe, it feels weird going home alone," she chuckled, "I’m holding a takeout bag and my phone instead of your hand."
His chuckles came from the end of the line, warming her heart. Then, they continued chatting as if he was by her side during her walk home from work.
Lariette once again mentioned Madeline would come tomorrow instead of tonight. She then shifted to her students’ antics today.
As for Ruediger, he talked about the differences between Norvonna and Velondia during this late autumn. He also brought up how some shops in the neighborhood had started putting up Christmas decorations despite not being December yet.
After a few minutes, she saw Lumina Spring ahead.
Most of the windows glowed from the inside. She could already imagine the warmth of her apartment, blocking the cold from the outside.
"I’m riding the elevator. I guess I’ll reach home in a few minutes."
Ruediger hummed softly, and then he asked, "If you’re not sleeping yet, can I video call you later? I miss seeing your face, my dear."
Lariette blinked, feeling warm spread its tendrils all over her body. Smiling, she joked, "Alright. But Eddy, you should add beautiful there. How could you forget that?"
"Hahaha! My bad, my bad," he laughed merrily, "I miss seeing my sweetheart’s enchantingly beautiful face, alright?"
She blushed, "Hehe~ That’s good enough."
Lariette finally arrived at the door. She keyed in the password and scanned her thumbprint, the door was opened with a soft click. Then, she stepped inside. The door was quickly locked behind her.
"I’m home now," she said, her voice faltering slightly, "Go and have dinner, Eddy. I’ll have mine, relax for a bit and then take a bath."
"Alright. I might call you at eight or nine your time," he hummed, "Make sure the door’s locked."
Even though the apartment’s security was great, alongside the preventions taken by each unit, he couldn’t help but worry.
"Okay~ Later."
"Later."
Lariette stood at the entryway, hearing the tone after Ruediger hung up. A faint smile was curled on her lips as she looked down the hallway.
Lariette changed into her home slippers after taking off her shoes. She remained on the same spot, her eyes gazing at her pink bunny slippers before they drifted to the checkered navy blue slippers belonging to Ruediger.
"Yeah," she whispered, "It feels weird you’re not here."
The inside was warm enough to ease the chill clinging to her skin, but she felt something was amiss without his presence. Thinking the silence was palpable, she quickly turned on the TV, playing a show.
After changing into comfy loungewear, Lariette moved to the kitchen. Her long hair was bundled into a high messy bun.
Lariette served the braised beef noodles and wontons she bought on her favorite pink ceramic plates. She made a simple black tea before bringing everything to the living room.
Sitting on the carpet before the coffee table, she quietly ate the dishes. The show was interesting, but it failed to capture her attention as her gaze kept drifting to her phone.
Then, it rang.
Lariette blinked, but thinking it most likely didn’t come from Ruediger. He should be busy having dinner with the Walters right now. Still, a smile lit up her face once she saw who was the caller.
"Grandpa, hello."
Putting down the chopsticks, Lariette happily greeted Chairman Delaney. Her elderly grandfather’s laughter echoed from the other side.
"Oh, I thought you’re all sad because it’s not Eddy," Chairman Delaney teased, referring to Ruediger’s absence, "What are you doing, my dear? You’re home already, aren’t you?"
The elderly man was already aware of the change in the pair’s relationship. He supported his granddaughter and her contracted husband, saying they were old enough to make important decisions.
Lariette blushed. Rolling her eyes, she said, "Grandpa, did he tell you he’ll be away? And yes, I’m home now. Having early dinner."
"He called me just now. That brat, he should’ve told me earlier," Chairman Delaney grumbled, pretending to be mad at Ruediger, "Well, he also told me why he’s in Norvonna now."
"Oh... he told you?" Lariette paused, never expecting Ruediger to mention the Alvords threatening him to Chairman Delaney, "Did he ask for your advice, Grandpa?"
In Lariette’s view, Ruediger took a wise move by getting opinions from Chairman Delaney who had weathered decades in the challenging corporate sector.
"Something like that. Anyway, that boy will get over this. The shameless Alvords won’t bother him again soon," the elderly man answered, unfortunately, she couldn’t see the mysterious smile on his face.
The granddaughter and grandfather pair continued chatting. Chairman Delaney bragged about winning another chess match against his long-time friend, also known as his chess rival.
"Ah, I shouldn’t bother you any longer," said the elderly man after almost fifteen minutes on the phone, "Bring Eddy to visit me later. No need to come this weekend even if he’s back already."
"Hehe, okay, Grandpa~" Lariette chuckled, "I’m not sure when he’ll be back. But he said most likely this weekend. Bye bye~"
"Bye, my dear."
Then, the call ended.
Lariette had already anticipated her next visit to her grandfather’s abode, not expecting someone else to make his appearance there.
