HEIRESS REBORN: MARRYING HER EX-FIANCÉ-Chapter 97: The Hitson family
Madam Hitson flinched at her husband’s demand. This was the first time he would raise his voice on her and she nearly jumped off the couch at his yell.
’’Dear....’’ She still struggled to respond to his words, but she was aware that keeping silent would only make her husband angrier.
’’Why are yelling at mother, father?" Madam Hitson watched as her daughter entered the parlor, glaring pointedly at her husband.
She suddenly had a bad feeling at Lilian’s appearance.
Her husband looked at their daughter for a while.
’’Lilian....I heard that you....’’
’’If you’re asking if I offended President Kingston, then you’re wrong, father.’’ Lilian did not wait for her father to complete his words. ’’I was merely correcting her basic etiquettes of courtesy.’’
Lilian inwardly snorted, feeling very annoyed. She understood what her father must have heard from his acquaintances at yesterday’s birthday banquet. To everyone, she had offended a god-like powerful existence, but no one saw her actions as standing up for her first love.
Her father must be the same since he yelled at her mother first thing after returning from his business trip.
’’Lilian!’’ Madam Hitson did not expect her daughter to be still rebellious in the presence of her husband.
’’Am I not allowed to say what I want, mother?’’ Lilian was starting to get frustrated by her mother’s cautious acts.
Opposite of her mother’s audacious ways
Normally, her mother would have supported her actions no matter what. Just like how her mother had made her admiration known for Liam. Even if she felt embarrassed by her mother’s boldness, Lilian still felt her mother’s support, and her heart was undoutedly touched.
Now, her mother was trying to be careful which greatly irritated her.
’’You...’’
Lilian ignored her mother’s disappointed countenance.
’’I will like to break my verbal engagement with the Asher family, father.’’ She declared boldly. ’’I am in love with the adopted young master of the Kingston family and would like to get married to him.’’
’’What did you say?’’ As expected, her father got riled up by her words.
Nevertheless, Lilian still declared her thoughts. ’’I want to break my verbal engagement with the Asher family. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with someone I don’t want and love.’’
Madam Hitson could not take her daughter’s rebelliousness any longer and stood up from the couch. ’’Lilian! That adopted son of Lucinda’s is not a good man for you.’’ She tried to dissuade her daughter’s crazy decision.
Although she wasn’t in full support of small family like Asher’s with nothing to offer unlike her husband’s approval, their son was still much better than that Lucinda’s son. She had known the young lad since their families had a close relationship.
At the birthday banquet, that adopted son of Lucinda hadn’t even supported her daughter’s actions for standing up for him, and instead intensified the pity and concerns that Lilian had for him. Her daughter was looked down upon and avoided by other families, while he was still intact even if he was the indirect cause of that situation.
Although her daughter was in the wrong, Madam Hitson wanted a man who would still stand by her regardless.
That Lucinda’s adopted son was definitely not the right man for her Lilian.
’’And the Young master Asher is?’’
’’He’s your childhood sweetheart, Lilian.’’ Madam Hitson tried to hold her daughter’s hands, but Lilian avoided hers as if she were a plague.
Madam Hitson froze, shocked by her avoidance.
’’A childhood sweetheart?’’ Lilian sneered at her mother. ’’Frankly speaking, isn’t it better if I marry into Kingston family than a small family like the Asher’s marrying into ours?’’
’’Lilian....’’
’’I am not you or father, mother. I don’t want to have a marriage like yours and my own husband will come in and yell at me because of another.’’
’’Lilian!’’ Madam Hitson was very hurt by her daughter’s words. So, in her daughter’s eyes, her marriage was one to be avoided?
’’Francis, Lilian didn’t mean anything by her words.’’ Immediately, Madam Hitson turned to her husband, hoping that he wouldn’t be angry because of their daughter’s hurtful words.
Indeed, her husband had married into her family.
A bought son-in-law as one would call him in the society.
However, her husband was the same man who brought up her family’s business into its current greater heights. That was one of the reasons Madam Hitson respected him truly as a man, and could overlooked his bad habits at times.
Like for one, yelling on her. But Madam Hitson understood the reason for his agitation. Their family business was at risk after all.
Francis, her husband did not become arrogant because of his achievements. Sometimes, she would be overbearing and demand if he was cheating on her. Nevertheless, he still assured her that he was faithful, and sometimes he would be annoyed by her overbearing character.
Still, that did not change that he had always been a good husband and father to their small family.
If he wasn’t a good man, he would have called her out so many times for her troublesome character against her nemesis, Lucinda.
This alone showed that her husband was quite calm and supportive of her, his wife, and Madam Hitson couldn’t be more proud that her daughter took after him character wise.
Until now.... that is...
’’Do you truly want to break the engagement you have with the Young master Asher, Lilian?’’ Unlike the agitated Madam Hitson, Francis was much calmer and deeply observed his daughter.
’’Yes, father.’’ Lilian looked at him and agreed almost immediately without hesitation.
’’Then you talk to the Young master Asher yourself, Lilian.’’ Francis stated curtly. ’’You both have grown together as close friends and childhood sweethearts. He’s been quite accommodating as your potential fiancé, don’t you think?’’
’’.....’’
’’When the Young master Asher visits our home, talk to him about your intention of breaking the engagement. Until then, I must not hear any rumors of you and the adopted young master Kingston, seeing each other.’’
’’Father, I...’’ Lilian did not agree to the last sentence, but her father intentionally ignored her and passed by her out of the parlor.
’’Francis...’’
Madam Hitson looked at her husband’s disappearing back, knowing that he must be truly hurt for him to be this calm.
She could feel a headache coming up and let out a tired sigh. She then moved her gaze to her daughter who seemed quite lost.
’’Lilian, you should understand that as your parents who loves and cherish you, we aren’t your enemies who would wish you terrible life.’’ She hoped that her daughter would understand that they have her best interests at heart, and wouldn’t want her to suffer in any way.
’’...’’
Madam Hitson saw that her daughter had nothing to say in response and gave up on trying to dissuade her daughter for now. There were other days and time that she could reach out when everyone was much calmer.
’’Let me check on your father. He shouldn’t be too angry with you.’’ She said softly before leaving Lilian alone in the parlor.
