Hellhound At Supernatural Academy-Chapter 30: Treacherous Hike
Chapter 30: Treacherous Hike
My group consisting of Ava, Leto, and I set off through the mountains. There was no clear path, so we had to circle around until we found a route safe enough to traverse. Two other groups were ahead of us, and another was behind. We were headed toward one of the designated camping areas called D4. The map we had didn't offer any view of the landscape; it only provided the general direction of where the camping areas were located along with the so called 'Danger zone'.
After about an hour of walking, we encountered a problem: a nearly impassable area filled with large rocks. The other groups ahead of us had turned back. The area was a field of boulders, both large and small. It would be a steep ascent if we tried to make it over them, as the path was nearly vertical. Ava didn't look too enthusiastic about it; I could see her face was a shade paler than before.
"Come on, we don't have to climb over these rocks; it looks pretty dangerous. It seems like it could collapse at any moment. Let's go back with the rest of the groups."
"It's not wise to waste time walking around mindlessly," I told her.
"It's not wise to get crushed under a boulder either. There's no point in taking unnecessary risks."
"The real risk is not getting to the designated area on time. The path looks stable enough; we should be fine if we go slowly," Leto chimed in, agreeing with me.
The problem was that if we turned back, it could cut into the time we had to forage for food and drinkable water. With that in mind, we had no choice but to press forward.
"I'll go first," I suggested. My hellhound genes gave me agility comparable to that of a werewolf, so I'd have an easier time getting up there than the others. Since Leto was an angel, height wasn't a problem for him, but I was sure he didn't want to expose himself in front of Ava. "Ava, you follow closely behind me and make sure to follow my lead. Leto, you'll be at the back to help her in case she needs it."
Leto looked displeased about following my orders, but he gave a small nod without uttering a word. At least things were progressing smoothly.
I began to climb the rocky scramble, with Ava following closely behind me. The key to rock climbing was to find gaps between the rocks with smooth surfaces. I slowly made my way up, guiding Ava along. The climb was challenging, with many boulders requiring careful maneuvering.
After a grueling 30 minutes of climbing, we finally reached a relatively safe spot. We decided to take a break to give Ava some time to rest. Another advantage of taking this path was the view. From this height, we could see the surrounding area quite well.
Sitting on top of a rock, I closed my eyes and began to meditate. One advantage of meditation was that it enhanced my superhuman senses even further. By tuning everything out and merging with my environment, I quickly grasped everything around us. Using just my sense of smell and hearing, I could tell that there was a river 900 meters from where we were sitting. There were four other groups nearby; the closest was 720 meters away and 180 meters from the river.
The other two groups were over 2000 meters away, while the last group was 850 meters away. This last group had roughly 15 people in it. In all likelihood, it was the designated area we were searching for.
"What are you doing?" Leto asked, standing over me.
"I found the campsite; it's not too far from here. Considering the terrain, it would take us around 20 minutes to reach it."
"How did you even know that? There's nothing but rocks and trees around us. How would you know what's out there?"
"I just do."
"That's not a satisfying enough answer for me."
"Well, that's all you're getting, satisfying or not."
"Can you guys not fight right now? We have bigger fish to fry," Ava cut in, attempting to soothe the tension. "Let's just follow what Sin says since neither of us has another way out."
Having no other choice, the group decided to follow my lead, and in about 20 minutes, we made it to the campsite. We were the third group to arrive. It seemed there was an easier way to the campsite than the path we had travelled. Choosing a suitable spot, we set up our tent in close proximity to one another. The time was now 4 o'clock, which meant we had two hours before we wouldn't be permitted to leave the campsite.
I told the others about the river nearby. From the campsite, it was only 600 meters away, and it took us just 10 minutes to reach it. The river was rocky and deep enough to swim in, and it also housed fish for us to catch and eat. Luckily, we had brought all the cooking utensils the school provided.
"Seriously, Sin, how did you know where to find the river? The teachers at the campsite refused to tell us anything," Ava asked, trying to hide her excitement, but I could tell she was happy.
"I have keen senses."
"Well, whatever it was, thank you."
"We should try to catch some fish, but first, we need to get a fire going if we're going to cook them," Leto said.
"I'll go gather some wood while you two focus on catching them. Fish gross me out," Ava replied.

Together, Leto and I caught around 12 fish in total. Leto used his shirt as a net to grab them while I went for the bare-handed approach. Since I was the only one with any cooking experience, I was tasked with preparing the fish. I began by gutting them, which is a crucial step in preparing fish for cooking. This involves removing the internal organs and other inedible parts.
After that, I started the fire using the wood Ava collected. My heat manipulation ability really came in handy. After half an hour, the fish was ready to eat. We enjoyed our meal then went back to the campsite.
Tomorrow we will be given the timetable outlining the training regimen for the day.
