Hellhound At Supernatural Academy-Chapter 32: The Hunt
Chapter 32: The Hunt
Nearly an hour had passed since we were told we had to travel 50 kilometers for the day. We had barely covered 5 kilometers since then. We decided to traverse around the mountain side where the terrain was less dangerous. Ava was breathing heavily; no doubt, having to fight off those boys had taken a toll on her body. Her eyes were blood red, and her pupils were dilated. Her complexion looked a shade paler.
As we walked along the path, I strolled up to her and presented something I had caught especially for her.
"What is that?" she said, feigning ignorance.
"What does it look like? It's a rabbit."
"Obviously, but why are you showing it to me?"
"I thought girls liked cute stuff like this. You had a lot of fluffy things like this in your room. I thought you'd be more excited."
"God, you're such a weirdo. Can you please leave me alone? You're acting like an actual stalker. And please let that thing go."

"Why don't you want to eat it? I mean, that's the real reason I caught it."
"What why would you.... I'm not hungry."
"When's the last time you drank any blood?"
"W-what? You have no right to ask me that."
"Here, have a drink," I said, shoving the rabbit toward her.
"I don't want to."
"You have no choice. You're weak; you look like you could collapse at any moment. Plus, I'm afraid you'll sink your teeth into me once my back is turned."
"Tch. As if! I would rather die than drink your blood."
"If that's the case, take the rabbit. It'll be best for all of us if you're at full strength"
Hesitantly, Ava took the rabbit from my hand. Her eyes glowed bright red as she sank her fangs into the animal. I couldn't help but admire how delicately she held it, almost as if she were embracing it in a hug. She had a certain charm about her that made the rabbit not notice it was being preyed upon. With her flushed red cheeks, beautiful face, black hair, and womanly figure, at first glance, nothing about her seemed dangerous.
"Pervert!!"
I was pulled out of my thoughts by a vicious kick to the chin. I didn't even see it coming.
"What was that for?!"
"You weren't supposed to see! It's embarrassing!" she said as she hid her face behind the rabbit, "You better not breathe a word to about this to anyone... um... I'm warning you!"
"Okay, okay, I won't tell anyone."
When she finished, she set the rabbit on the ground, and the creature hopped away as if nothing had happened.
"You know, I really don't like you."
"I'm pretty sure you've made that perfectly clear."
"Tch. It's the fact that you don't know why that pisses me off the most! Vampires are good at picking up on people's desires. Back there, I felt your bloodlust. If I hadn't stepped in, you were planning on killing everyone, including me. And then, as if nothing happened, you start acting nice. How am I supposed to feel about that?! I just don't get you."
"I'm sorry; I can't help it. I hate being cornered." I understood what she was saying well, she wasn't sure if she should consider me an enemy or a friend. "Why complicate thing. I'm clearly not your friend, stop letting your emotions get in the way."
I decided it was best to leave her alone and walked away. Now that Ava was feeling a little better, we started to pick up the pace, traveling through the mountain at incredible speed. Still, it didn't matter. The reason I was so eager to move faster was that we were being followed. No, it was more like we were being stalked.
The strange part was that as far I can tell it wasn't a person. An ominous presence had been tracking us since last night. I couldn't see it, but it had a foul stench that burned my nostrils. It moved so quietly that you could say it was a phantom. The only way I could track it was by scent. Throughout the night, it kept circling our camp, maintaining a 500-meter radius around us. As far as I knew, there wasn't any supernatural creature supposed to inhabit this mountain.
The feeling of being hunted was nauseating, like gravity was pushing things up instead of down, and all the blood was rushing to my head. I couldn't take it anymore.
Without warning, I sped off in the direction of whatever was lurking in the shadows. As if sensing me, the creature rushed off in the opposite direction. It was like a game of cat and mouse. It barreled through the forest, trying to escape me. I picked up my speed, leaping from tree to tree with incredible agility.
The sound of branches swished past my ears as I leaped from tree to tree, moving faster with each bound. The ground was a mix of blur beneath my feet. I was jumping as far as 200 meters with every leap, almost soaring through the sky. I was gradually gaining on it. Then it stopped.
That was when I realized how far I had gone. I was now inside the danger zone. Did it intentionally lead me here? If that was the case, then whatever this thing was, it had some form of intelligence.
From atop a large oak tree, I spotted the creature from above. It was something I had never seen before.
Its head resembled a deer skull, while its body was an intertwining mass of bone and exposed muscle. It stood about 10-feet tall resembling a human stripped of their skin—the living image of a flayed man. Its fingers extended into long, pointed needles. It locked eyes with me and let out an ear-shattering scream that echoed throughout the forest. It was the first sound I had ever heard it make.
Black claws morphed from my fingertips as I prepared for the battle to come. This might be the first real fight I'd had in a while.
