Chapter 169: Chapter 169 You have to choose one!!

Another buzz hit the Internet, and it was Daniel Lancaster again. A new picture of him being taken to the hospital resurfaced online, and his most toxic fans began to celebrate, all jubilant that he was about to give birth. After all, this was the first appearance he had made in months, following the rumors of a doppelganger parading as him and committing several heinous crimes.

His pregnancy was already public knowledge thanks to Nicole, but them seeing it happening live was a joy—especially for the Xyniel shippers, who were the most toxic of them all. They went around throwing deep shades at those who had indirectly tried to drag them, and in the end, it went the wrong way with the fanbase winning.

Guess who was spotted on the hospital road today, finally!! I guess little Daniel is finally coming, and one of our sources is going to go in there, surprise our Queen, and bring back good news. #teamDaniel forever.... 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Meanwhile, Draven and Xylander had gotten far from the hospital after visiting Charles in the ICU. In the process of Xylander—still in his mask—about to enter the car, Draven got a text message. Reading it, his eyes bulged.

"Draven, you’re shaking. What’s happening?" Xylander asked, terrified for a moment that it was more terrible news. With his state of mind now, he wasn’t ready for another blow right to the face. The rest was enough; he couldn’t take another one.

"Oh, heavens. Daniel is about to put to bed, and we are just standing here," Draven spoke with an alarm that first shocked Xylander before his face changed to one of sheer joy and happiness.

"He is in the hospital? You mean this hospital?" Xylander asked, impatient to see his darling.

It had been a month since they had separated, and it was counting to two months as he spoke. Those nights alone... he couldn’t imagine how he had survived through those terrors. It was like something deep, a part of him, had been ripped out. But now, he could not only see Daniel, he could also see their baby.

"This is so unreal. Are you sure it’s true? Freaking true?" Xylander asked to be sure, his face tingling with smiles that brightened his features for a minute, illuminating that gorgeous look people had forgotten.

"You’re doubting me? Instead of staying here and explaining a never-ending story, why don’t we look for ourselves?" Draven suggested.

Like people being chased, they rushed and scampered down to the hospital door, right to the reception office and up to the elevator to the ward before they came to the realization that none of them knew the right room.

"Fuck! Shit!!" Draven cursed. How could they be so stupid? Now they would have to go down once more.

Xylander stopped for a minute to catch his breath before uttering words that seemed stuck in his throat. "Will Daniel be glad to see me? Won’t he tag me as a child abuser..." he asked, a bit insecure.

Draven, fed up with this constant question that always followed the same pattern, rolled his eyes and held Xylander’s shoulders. "Who wrote letters for you?" he asked, his eyes telling the latter he was impatient.

Xylander looked at Draven and answered. "Daniel!"

Then Draven shrugged. "You see? Now you have your answer. Because no one will write for a sex offender in prison. So for him to go through the stress of that in his state—especially someone like Daniel, who has pride and is also lazy in some aspects—to do all that... can’t you see? He loves you so much and doesn’t care about the bullshit going on in New York City." He took time to explain to Xylander because he was his friend and could feel his worry as if it was his own.

Xylander thought for a while and smiled at Draven, a silent offering of gratitude. Then once again, the two continued the race and began to run for the elevator.

Draven almost forgot the elevator and took the staircase until, halfway down, he realized he’d taken the wrong path. "Fuck! Fuck, fuck..." He slammed his hands on his head as he turned back, once again rushing to the elevator and meeting Xylander there.

"You should have called me back..." Draven frowned, but Xylander just shrugged it off.

Whatever. Never mind. Anyway, they both took off again as the elevator slid down at a fast pace. They hit the button, dashed out at once, and ran right to the receptionist.

Xylander’s mask was gone at this point, so his face was open. At once, every passerby took note and gasped. "Xylander Wolfe...." It was a lot of gasps, but the latter was too engrossed in thoughts of Daniel to seem to notice all the peering eyes on him, as if he was some kind of wanted criminal—even though, indirectly, he was one.

Draven looked at the same girl who was flirting with him earlier and groaned. This just wasn’t the time, but he had to put up with her for now. "Where can I locate a pregnant person who was rolled in here a few minutes ago?" He decided to say ’person’ so as not to specify the gender, because it might cause an uproar if they learned Daniel was a guy and pregnant.

"You mean the young man that was screaming? He’s in Ward 7 on the lower floor." Draven was stunned; she didn’t seem to have any problem with the matter. All that concerned her was the document she was filling vigorously. After getting the information, Draven smiled and was about to leave when she spoke again, this time to Xylander, whose eyes widened when he realized his mask was missing.

"I couldn’t believe you were accused of something so despicable," she spoke, seemingly sympathizing with him.

Xylander blinked. What just happened? Did she just say accused? And weren’t these the same people who wanted to crucify him earlier, especially on the internet? He looked around and gasped when he saw a massive crowd all wanting to see Xylander and make sure he was alright. The irritated expressions, deep hatred, and disdain had all vanished as if never there, replaced by a veil of sympathy—something Xylander knew was all a charade. Because if he was accused again, they might dig this issue right back up.

"How... why did you say that?" Xylander asked. Draven would have loved to listen, but he was losing his cool. He didn’t want Daniel to feel abandoned, so he wanted to stay with him all through the delivery to watch out for him—even though it wouldn’t be easy. He’d heard countless stories of childbirth, of how the mother screams and some don’t survive the process. He didn’t want that to be Daniel’s portion. And he was wasting time with Xylander amidst these baseless questions.

Just as he was about to tap his companion, the nurse used that moment to answer. "It’s trending online. Matt Valez’s confession box. It’s like a crazy year, and just imagine, it’s happening days before Christmas. Like, what the hell?" She laughed, but Xylander, who didn’t see anything funny, glared at her.

"Answer me! You’re stalling, and I have a husband that needs me in the ward. In case you don’t know, I am about to become a father and can’t let him do the pushing all alone!" Xylander thundered, his voice high, mighty, and sexy with a bass tone that made all the females around nearly fall off their feet.

That was so damn romantic and sweet. Even the males looked at him with admiration.

The nurse saw the way people looked at her, expecting an answer, so she hurriedly granted their wish before she’d be eaten up by them. "He said he planned it all to ruin your family. Not just the accident that drove your husband away, but the vile accusations against you and many other things. He said something about wanting to get back at Daniel for everything he’d ever done to him. So, that was all."

The nurse ended it, and Xylander felt like a large weight had been lifted off his chest.

How did this happen?Matteo couldn’t have just confessed like that; something else caused it. But that was a question for another day. His hubby needed him right that moment.

He looked to where Draven was and saw that he had calmed down a bit, maybe after hearing that he wouldn’t be convicted again and was ultimately cleared of all charges.

Then, right there, a cheer broke out with different people hailing and chanting, "Husband of the year!! Husband of the year..." Not just that—another chant came from another corner: "Couple of the year!!! Couple of the year!"

Xylander would have fallen to his knees and thanked his creator for saving and rescuing him from the pit of his enemies, but that wasn’t all. His hubby was about to be blessed with a child.

Lost in his joy, a tap jolted him awake. "Daniel and the baby, remember..." And he jumped, thanked the nurse, and scurried away in a hurry.

Then with speed, they arrived at the ward and saw several doctors rushing into the ICU unit.

"What’s going on? And now that I think about it, why is he in the ICU unit?" Draven questioned, and he heard some mumbling from the doctors and instructions.

"This is terrible. He can’t give birth through that process; it’s only surgery. And I’m afraid if that surgery is performed, only one—the father or the babies—might survive. Not them both." A female voice was telling the others, and everything turned in circles for Draven and Xylander.

Xylander paused and looked around to see if he could spot Daniel. The door to one room was slightly open, a dim red light inside. He finally looked, and right in the middle of the bed was Daniel, down and unblinking.

"Noo!!! Not him and our baby, Draven! Noo.." Xylander fell to his knees and began to shake. What would he do? What would he do?

Draven held his chest as the heartbreak made him stagger. Then he saw Ruth and madly rushed to her. "Help! Please, save Daniel!!! And our baby, I beg of you..." He held her hands and began to sob so hard.

Xylander, on the other hand, rushed to the door of the ICU unit and began to cry silently while praying. "Dear creator, save him this last time, and I will give you whatever you want..." Xylander cried to himself and fell onto his butt.
