High School of Demon Hunting-Chapter 1643 - 387 Leviathan
Chapter 1643: Chapter 387 Leviathan
The bronze compass with gray-green rust floated mid-air, the curved magnetic spoon creaking as it turned on the smooth disc, the handle seeming as if it had been burned through by charcoal, revealing a dark red glow that twisted the air in wisps.
Before the handle lay an endless stretch of white mist, which was the greatest incarnation allowing the Mist Ship to traverse the seas and roam through time and space. This was also one of the reasons it was called the ’Mist Ship.’
It was said that these mists were treasures extracted from the river of time by the demon giant towering above the four sea monster captains, known as the ’King of Sea Demons,’ and infused into the Mist Ship.
Since the ’water’ from the temporal river inherently carried some essence of cosmic light, these mists also possessed certain mysterious magical effects.
For example, under these mists, one could connect to the underworld below, the starry sky above, while still linking to the eight directions of the seas.
With just these mists unfurled, the correct direction, and under the compass’s guidance, the Mist Ship could reach any world, and any corner of these worlds.
Even the Black Prison.
Furthermore, the mists themselves became a world, capable of accommodating magical creatures far beyond the general scope.
"Awoo!!"
"Awoo awoo!!"
An elongated call came from the depths of the mist, interrupting the conversation between the Mist Captain and The Duke. On the deck behind the two Great Demons, there was slight commotion, with sporadic flashes of crimson quietly lifting, peering beyond the ship’s rails, trying to see what the calling creature looked like.
But apart from the cotton-like, wave-like rolling mists, they couldn’t see any other shadows. Only the Deadly Wind Lamp’s oil-green glow, like ghostly flames in a cemetery flashing between signaling ships, assured these young demons that they were not alone.
Of course, the gazes of the two Great Demons remained undisturbed.
The Duke’s gaze pierced through the thick white mist, seemingly seeing far into the distance, only retracting his gaze after a long while, and softly murmured, "Leviathan?! ... Before coming, you never mentioned they would be part of your plan."
The Mist Captain appeared quite satisfied with the Witch Demon’s fleeting astonishment.
"Behemoth is in the Black Prison."
Its mouth slightly curled upwards, the gray-blue chin slightly raised, trying to appear gentler, yet in the old Witch Demon’s eyes, the stiffness stemming from deep within the bloodline was still evident:
"The three of them share a connection beyond bloodlines... If there is a chance to rescue Behemoth, they won’t refuse. This time, our grand fleet can be completely encased in the mist, thanks to ’Leviathan’s mastery over ’Nature’s Law.’
The Witch Demon from the Land of Desolation had long heard of the legendary giant fish monster’s powers. It was said it could control and command all living beings within sight, manipulating them as easily as pointing fingers; it could also distort the world’s original laws, as if the concept of ’twisting’ originated from it.
But these weren’t the old Witch Demon’s focal interest.
"Three?"
The Duke had caught the sea monster using a quantifier, his brows slightly furrowed, seemingly realizing something, yet unsure: "Did Ziz come too?"
As he spoke, two beams of crimson light suddenly shot from his eyes, penetrating straight into the rolling mist.
The white mist shrieked like frightened children, retreating in all directions. A vast area of emptiness appeared before the bow.
Losing the mist’s support, the Mist Ship traveling in unknown realms leaned forward, the ship creaking heavily, as if the next moment the beams on board would be crushed by overwhelming pressure.
The Mist Captain slightly moved his fingers, and the bow’s serpent hair atop the Figurehead, like a Female Demon’s, seemed to be pulled by two invisible threads, shielding the red beams in front.
The serpent hair sizzled, sticking out its blood-red tongues and wailing in pitiful pleas, yet its body stiffly faced the beams, not daring to evade.
Sizzle.
Like a sizzling slab of fat on a hot iron plate, the serpent hair blocked the two red beams from The Duke’s eyes, but also turned into two segments of black charcoal under the light.
Crack.
The old Witch Demon slightly frowned, lowered his eyelids, and withdrew the red light from his eyes. Suspended in mid-air, the two charred sections shattered after a final few seconds of stiffness, turning into a plume of ashes slowly drifting into the boundless white mist outside the ship.
The white mists cheered, sweeping back in, lifting the heavy ship.
Only then did the Mist Captain smile gently, "Ziz isn’t here... Otherwise, given its size, you wouldn’t have missed its silhouette."
The Duke was surrounded by an ever-thickening black mist, shaking his head slightly, his hoarse voice wavering near the two Great Demons, echoing even to the Figurehead: "Giant Beast Behemoth, Giant Fish Leviathan, Giant Bird Ziz... Truly a massive surprise. Or, perhaps there are other allies we aren’t aware of?"
His reference to ’we’ pointed specifically to the Witch Demons from the Land of Desolation.
As allies allied with the sea demons to attack the Black Prison, detecting entities beyond the demon alliance army under their command right before the great war would naturally trigger the old Witch Demon’s vigilance.
Demons, by nature, were indifferent and wouldn’t feel remorseful for being discovered in ’guarding against allies,’ nor would they reveal their trump cards because of it.
Yet to maintain the fragile alliance between the sea demons and the Witch Demons, the Mist Captain offered a minimal explanation.
"Perhaps there are certain entities from the deeps of starry sky willing to lend a hand."
Lord Captain responded vaguely, with no intention to delve deeper but guided the discussion back to the ’giant beast, giant fish, and giant bird’:
"Just as I mentioned, Behemoth, Leviathan, and Ziz, the three of them have bonds far beyond blood... Over the years Behemoth has been trapped in the Black Prison, Leviathan and Ziz have considered breaking Behemoth out more than once, this time, we are merely helping them realize this thought."
Like The Duke, his reference to ’we’ did not include the Witch Demons from the Land of Desolation, but solely referred to the reigning four sea monster captains of the oceans.
"Giant signifies greater than large, but not quite legendary."
The Duke gave a long sigh: "With the assistance of three quasi-legendary beings, alongside guests from the deeps of the starry sky... it seems, unless the Principal intervenes, even if those two vice-principals step in together, they could still stall for a while longer."
"Behemoth has been in the Black Prison for so long, it’s hard to say what state it is in now." The Mist Captain at this moment humbly waved his hand, showing a bit of nonchalance: "I just hope they put in enough effort in the opening act... just as Lord Sujade’s kindled flames of war in the Black Prison presently, spectacular and commendable."
