Chapter 1698: Chapter 442: Mutated Emperor Bug

In front of the Black Prison’s outer fortress.

The Big Wizards from the school, including the five Upper House Members of the Moon Council, tried to interfere with the magic of The Duke Ulysses, but the Great Demons’ relentless obstruction thwarted the Big Wizards’ efforts.

One powerful spell after another was born, unleashed, and then dissipated halfway, with intense magic fluctuations spanning from the underground to deep space, from the wilderness to the deepest part of the inner fortress. The entire battlefield was like a boiling pot, making every being perceiving the Magic Power feel a heat burning from the inside out.

However, a few extremely potent spells did land on that Breeding Ground.

But smashing a few, dozens, or even hundreds of giant eggs had no significant impact on the overall situation. On the contrary, those crushed giant eggs transformed into streams of black or red airstreams, merging more rapidly with other giant eggs around them, accelerating their maturation.

"A very timely response."

Sitting cross-legged in the void, with his fingers forming the Zi Wu Formula, the Big Wizard in Dao attire looked at those flickering giant eggs in the distance like fireflies and sighed slightly: "... It seems quite difficult to catch them off guard."

As he spoke, he moved his fingers to retrieve the Flying Sword that was confronting a multi-headed giant snake in the distance. With a flash of green rainbow, the sword returned, its body sparkling, without a trace of blood.

The giant snake raised its upper body, with its seven heads howling triumphantly at the sky, though the neck lacking one head behind the seven made its roar sound much weaker.

Beside him, the Big Wizard leisurely playing the zither on a slanting couch glanced at the giant snake and said slowly: "The Eight-branched Giant Serpent Lü Zhiyuan, it’s said you have to chop off all its eight heads for it to die... you’ve only chopped off one, why not try a few more times?"

"It’s thinking too simply." The Dao-attired Big Wizard shook his head: "Instinct tells me, even if you chop off all the heads, it won’t die. Since that’s the case, better not waste Magic Power."

"After all, both the Drought Demon and Emperor Bug are quite tricky creatures."

As they spoke, in the distance, at the end of the battlefield in that Breeding Ground, several giant eggs already began to shake violently, with the Magic Runes on the eggshell extinguishing one after another, and cobweb-like cracks started to spread slowly from the top downwards.

Moments later, the eggshells fell off.

From the red giant eggs crawled out beings that resembled Shan Xiao, their bodies were seven to eight meters long, covered entirely with slender red hair, with flame-like long hair flowing behind their heads, eyes narrow, noses high, fangs intersecting, their howls piercing the skies filled with a dead atmosphere.

Just after emerging from the giant eggs, these newborn Drought Demons staggered as they walked, but soon they became familiar with their bodies and skillfully commanded the Skills imprinted deep in their Souls.

The ground beneath their feet cracked and dried up, with their long hair falling into the ground’s cracks, drawing up the scorching subterranean fire. Dark red lava surged, channeling streams of destructive Magic Power into the Drought Demons’ bodies through those fallen hairs, with the scattered Magic Power swirling around them like red tornadoes.

For such beings born from death, Wizards had very detailed countermeasures—such as the Thunder Curse, the Illusion Array, or perhaps the Moon Clan of the Undead Zombies—but regardless of the choice, a tremendous amount of manpower was required.

Perhaps this was exactly the purpose of Duke Ulysses.

Compared to the Drought Demons, the ’Emperor Bugs’ emerging from the black giant eggs proved more troublesome for the Wizards.

In their normal state, the Emperor Bugs were like heavy tanks, their bodies clad in thick black armor, with two rows of conical spines along their backs growing along the spine.

The Emperor Bugs were immune to most magic attacks and highly resistant to physical attacks. Their ribcage-like giant scythes at the front could slash through most known materials, their sharp collisions could interrupt Magic Loops in the void, and their short-distance sprinting speed rivaled the full-speed run of a Unicorn.

It could be said that they were creatures born specifically for destruction, having significant advantages on large battlefields or when attacking strongholds such as the Black Prison Castle, covered by multiple magic circles and with strong defenses.

However, currently, the Emperor Bugs appearing on the battlefield included a special type besides the ’classic version.’

This was a type distinct from the normal black Emperor Bugs, with a striking pink body, no conical back spines, replaced instead with a pair of bat-wing-like fins—or could be called membranous wings.

Its head had no sharp collision horn either, the position belonging to the collision horn was replaced by a wrinkly oval mass covered with countless very short tentacles, each tentacle’s root growing numerous vortex-shaped oval tumors, these tumors would glow. They gathered together, resembling the compound eye of a fly, flashing dizzying spots of light.

This special type of ’Emperor Bug’—tentatively still called Emperor Bug—after a brief sprint, could use the vibration of their fins to glide short distances.

At their birth, they immediately posed a huge problem for the Wizards.

Instead of actively attacking the giants of the Bo Fu Clan, they exploited their gliding abilities and their innate Barrier-piercing Talent to swarm towards the breach created by the Multi-Armed Giant KOTOS and the Great Willow Tree, spreading from the wall breach to the interior fortress’ walls when the Tank-style Emperor Bugs and Drought Demons engaged the giants.

"You have only one mission!"

"Charge forward!"

"No retreat!"

Duke Ulysses’s chilling voice echoed in the mind of every ’Pink Emperor Bug,’ their screams piercing the air as the tumors on their foreheads flickered intensely, each flap of their bat wings leaving lingering shadows while dodging the raindrop-like spells raining down from the walls.

When the fastest-charging Pink Emperor Bug passed beyond the Mist Ship and approached the inner fortress, it suddenly halted, tilting its head, hesitantly looking towards a collapsed section of the wall on its left.

There emanated a fluctuation it found very familiar yet strangely alien.

Its innate intuition told it that the fluctuation and it shared the same origin, belonging to the highest existence’s blessing, but the residual instinct of the Emperor Bug kept denying this intuition, urging it to charge into the inner fortress.

The clashing consciousnesses in the cramped mind of this creature dimmed the tumors on its forehead.

On the battlefield, any momentary distraction could lead to severe consequences.

Moreover, this Pink Emperor Bug stalled for several dozen seconds.

Boom!

An azure stream of light fell from the city walls, striking the dazed Pink Emperor Bug with lightning speed, not only turning the bizarre creature into dust, but the light continued its trajectory, hitting a side of the Mist Ship, blasting a massive hole in the ship’s side.
