High School of Demon Hunting-Chapter 2270 - 491: A Day Full of Malice
"Two gift boxes."
"One for Lady Su Shijun, Member of the Great Wizard Conference, Upper House Member of the Moon Council, Owner of Qingqiu Mansion, and Director of the Two-Dimensional Evolution Lab at the First University... Has her title always been this long? ... Oh, well, we elves aren’t particularly aware of the trendy concepts in the Wizard World."
"Hmm, the other one is for Student Jiang Yu in the Astronomy Class 08-1 at Jiuyou Academy, First University... There, check if the address and recipient are correct?"
Little Red Riding Hood screeched these words, biting her feather pen, then jumped up to pat Zheng Qing’s knee, signaling him to take a look at the parchment list in her hand.
The wide hood of her red cape still had clumps of snow stuck on from crawling out of a snowdrift, and her little face under the hood was so white it was almost transparent, whether due to nature or the cold weather was unclear.
The young wizard crouched in front of the little sprite, squinting as he carefully scrutinized the tiny, mosquito-like handwriting on the parchment. Meanwhile, the sound of big rabbits munching on carrots echoed around him, and the distant Green Valley buzzed faintly with the chatter and excitement of students before class.
"That’s right."
The warlock nodded affirmatively, then hesitated for a few seconds, expressing a bit of concern as he asked, "You’ll deliver them quickly, right?"
"Leave it to me!" Little Red Riding Hood confidently pounded her chest.
Normally, most people wake up on Christmas morning to find their gifts by their pillow. But in places where Christmas isn’t taken seriously, like Jiuyou Academy, the timing for gift reception is less particular, and at any moment, one might receive their Christmas gift.
Just like today.
According to Zheng Qing, many students had their gifts drop into their arms unexpectedly while walking around the academy. Compared to the clumsy snowmen, this gift delivery method was particularly novel and interesting, but it also increased the workload for the Little Red Riding Hoods, hence the warlock’s slightly worried inquiry.
Snap!
The reins shook as Little Red Riding Hood drove the pumpkin car and urged the rabbits away, disappearing into the tranquil corner, leaving only a large snow pit where the rabbits and Little Red Riding Hood had been as a testament to their presence.
"What are you doing here?"
A familiar voice suddenly sounded in the boy’s ear. Zheng Qing quickly turned around, catching sight of Jiang Yu standing behind a shrub, looking at him in surprise.
"There’s only five minutes left until class." Noticing the warlock’s gaze, she added.
The shrub was in a narrow barrier strip, with a path leading to the Green Valley on the witch’s side and a quiet grove on the warlock’s side.
"I was, I was just basking in the sun for a bit!" The warlock reflexively tried to find the most ordinary excuse.
As soon as the words left his mouth, they both instinctively looked up, seeing the dappled canopy and gray-white sky. Basking in the sun in this weather felt rather like a cold joke.
A dry leaf seemed to feel the weight of two gazes beneath it and quivered as it left its bare branch, drifting down shakily. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
The atmosphere between both sides of the shrub fell into a peculiar silence.
Li Meng stood on tiptoe, peering her head over her cousin’s side, gazing past the shrub at the young wizard, a mischievous grin that said she understood everything plastered on her face.
Of course, given the admonishments she’d received, she dared not babble loudly, only mouthing the words ’scumbag’ silently like a goldfish, at the warlock. Zheng Qing worked hard to avoid her gaze to prevent any outburst about the midday hair incident that might alert Jiang Yu to something unusual.
"I meant to say, I just saw a cute snowman." The warlock blinked, finally landing on a slightly plausible excuse, trying to cover up.
A snowman came lurching slowly out of the depths of the forest, seeming to notice the strange atmosphere around it. It tilted its head towards the young wizards, and Zheng Qing noted that it was missing its nose, with a comical deep hole on its face.
The warlock’s stiff smile vanished entirely.
This truly was a world brimming with malice.
And a day brimming with malice too.
The witch pressed her lips together, not challenging the warlock’s offensive lie but nodding simply, "I came to remind you... class is about to start."
With that, she turned around, leading the little witch towards Green Valley.
A cold wind swept through the trees, blowing into the young wizard’s collar, raising goosebumps all over his neck and forcing him to shiver on the spot repeatedly.
Gurgle.
The consequence of skipping lunch came to fore under the cold wind’s assault, as Zheng Qing heard his stomach growl and fished out his pocket watch, glancing at the time. Less than five minutes to class, he cast one last menacing glance at the innocent snowman, turning to rush towards Green Valley.
Approaching class time, everyone was present except the teacher.
"Got any food?"
The young wizard grabbed Xin Fat Man out of the crowd, looking at his chubby cheeks and swallowing involuntarily, feeling as if his eyes were glowing green.
The plump wizard was startled by his appearance.
"I haven’t heard you have werewolf blood!" The fat wizard hurriedly rummaged through his coat, taking out two fried pies and shoving them into the warlock’s hands, "Eat these quickly."
"Um, a bit greasy... do you have any fruit?" Saying that, he had no hesitation in gobbling down half a pie.
While eating, he carefully glanced around, searching for Jiang Yu’s figure. Soon, he spotted her standing among a group of witches, seemingly assigning tasks, her face bearing the calm smile she usually had, her complexion still looking fine.
This made the pie in the warlock’s mouth suddenly taste good.
"Didn’t you get an apple at lunch?" The fat wizard retorted, annoyed, glancing at his watch.
"That was a Christmas gift from Poseidon; can it be casually eaten? Besides, who attends class bringing food... um, not you, of course." Considering he was still chewing on someone else’s pie, he had to be a bit more respectful when speaking.
"You have so many demands!"
The fat wizard clicked his tongue, turning to charge into the nearby shrubbery.
In less than a minute, he returned, wrapped in the cold, clutching a few fresh carrots. Zheng Qing accepted them with delight, wiped one, and stuffed it into his mouth.
The carrot, chilled, was crispy and quite tasty.
"Where did these come from?" He asked out of curiosity, munching on the pie and carrot.
And regretted it immediately.
"Stole them off a snowman."
The fat wizard nonchalantly waved his hand, "Watching them carry those lovely carrots around the campus every day... I’ve been wanting to pluck their noses off for ages."
Zheng Qing finally understood why the snowman he encountered in the woods had a black hole in its face.
