Chapter 39: Oops

"Ida?"

"No," I mutter. The effort to speak up is so difficult, and it gets worse when I turn my head in the opposite direction. "I don’t want to."

A chuckle from far away sounds familiar, but I cannot decipher it, nor do I wish to. Sleep is more important, and I welcome it.

"Come on." The voice is closer now, and I feel the world shift around me.

"Did you drink an entire bottle of wine?"

Maybe?

A tsk follows the question.

You’re the one that asked me? How grumpy.

"Ida, you realise you’re speaking out loud right now."

I did not. Now I do.

Warmth spreads along one side of my body as my mind puzzles together sluggishly what is happening. Fluttering my eyelashes with incredible effort, I peek up at the pretty boy, moving my arm to curl into my chest.

Theo is carrying me away from the dark study. "You’re so annoying," I murmur with a frown.

"A thank you wouldn’t kill ya, Princess," he says with a smile in his voice.

"It might." I curl into him more, welcoming his warmth. "You woke me up."

"Should I have let you drool on your desk? You have no blanket, no fire, and a window at your back without any curtains. I’m surprised your hair wasn’t wet either," Theo grumbles. "Honestly, if I wasn’t here, you wouldn’t take care of yourself."

I smiled, clutching at his shirt. "But you are here," I whisper before my teeth begin to clatter.

"Gods, see?!" Theo’s steps quicken, and he begins to rub my shoulder. "I’ve already made a bath for you."

"You know something, Theo, you’re alright." I pat his chest and snuggle closer into him.

"I won’t put you in the bath if you’re drunk," Theo murmurs.

"You can just make sure I don’t drown," I say sluggishly.

"Ida..." He groans. "I can’t do that."

"Where’s Soren?" I look up suddenly. "I’ll ask him."

A low growl rumbles through Theo’s chest. "I know he will do what I say," I continue. "He’s good like that."

"Soren has been called away," Theo says through gritted teeth.

"Called away?" I lean back and stare at Theo, arms wrapping around his neck so I don’t fall. "Who has called him away?"

Alaric would never call Soren away. Not now. Not with what has happened.

"What has happened?" Theo asks as the world whizzes around me.

"You know... The attack," I murmur, then look around distractedly.

"What attack?"

"Ohhh, this looks like heaven!" I tap on his shoulder, staring at the water closet from the sofa in my room. Steam curls out of the bath where rose petals have been dashed across the surface. It was incredibly enticing. "Put me down."

"Careful." Theo lowers me to my feet and follows me as I rush towards the water closet. "Ida!"

"Shh! Don’t wake everyone!" I giggle over my shoulder before my heel slips. The ground rushes up to meet my face.

Arms wrap around me before pain can smash into me. I’m upright and dragged away from the water closet.

"Noooo! Theo! C-come on! I’m so cold. Even if it’s for a short while!" I plead, holding onto his arm that had been dragging me away.

Theo stares down at me in exasperation. "P-pretty, please!"

"I know you’re putting it on," Theo scoffs but releases me.

"Come in with me." I tug at his hand and wander back to the water closet.

"What?"

"You heard me!" I sing out, closing the door behind us. "You did this to yourself." I nod, agreeing with myself. "Stand guard, and if I drown, take me out." I shrug. It’s so simple.

"Ida, I don’t think you realise what you are doing and saying right now."

I wave him off. "It was half a bottle of wine. I’m fine."

"I disagree," he murmurs, swallowing thickly when I reach back to undo the laces at my back.

"Can you help?" I ask, huffing when I could only unlace a few.

Theo nods quietly as I face the other way. Goosebumps flourish along my back and down my arms when I feel his soft touch along the top of my dress. It becomes looser, and then I feel those soft hands on my bare shoulders. My chemise barely hid the pebbling of my nipples.

"The mark is gone," Theo mumbles, his voice thick as fingers softly touch the back of my neck.

"Hmmm." Fire prickles along the back of my neck, shooting down my spine, liquefying and pooling at my core.

"I..." Theo swallows loudly. "I should go."

"But I’ll drown."

His steps pause. "Besides, you need to tell me if you have faired well in my absence," I state, lifting my chin and ignoring the pounding of my heart and the heat beginning to burn like an ember in my lower stomach.

This was nothing. I can overcome this. Besides, I really, really, really wanted to spend a little more time with Theo. With those thoughts, I turned to the tub, dropped the chemise to the ground, and climbed inside.

"Oops!" My foot slipped again. What was wrong with my balance tonight?

Theo was beside me in a flash. "Woah, nice catch," I grinned, staring up at him. He was leaning over me, eyes wide, hands on either side of my waist, my breasts pressed to his chest.

"This wasn’t a good idea," he says gruffly, but I tap on his shoulders to lower me.

Slowly, I am placed in the bath. The milky oils and petals cover most of my body. Theo starts to back away, but I grab his hand. "Stay." I tug, dropping my gaze to the ground silently.

Theo follows my lead and kneels beside me. "How have you been since I have been gone?"

He frowns. "I have been worried over you," he says fiercely. "I was told you were severely punished."

I shrug, leaning my head back; the weight of the water tugged on my scalp, where it soaks into my hair. "It is what it is..." I dip under, needing the rest of my hair from my face.

Hands tug me back up immediately. "Ida?!" Theo scolds, brushing away some of the strands from my face. "What are you doing?!"

"Stop stressing." I wave him off. "Ohh, can you massage my head like last time?"

Theo sighs. "I will if you stop trying to drown."

"Deal." Now, that sounds like a good deal to me, unlike a certain barbaric Prince’s.

His fingers sink into my scalp, and I sigh, letting everything wash over me. "Thank you," I murmur, ignoring the heat zapping down my spine.

A tingling starts to tickle at the top of my clit, and this time, I cannot ignore it. "Hmmm..." My hand lowers to get rid of the feeling.

"Not going." I try to scratch the area with my middle finger, the water sloshing a little. Instead, it makes the tingling grow. "Theo..." I murmur, my voice a little breathy as I grab one of his hands. "You’re good with your hands."

"Ida..." He breathes. "We should stop."

"Hmmm? Why?" I blink my eyes open, and my voice purrs out. "You don’t want to?"

Theo cursed under his breath. I’m not sure why. I move his finger against me and inhale sharply when the sensation shoots down my core.

"Ida..." Theo groans and then removes his hand abruptly. "You’re drunk."

"No, I’m not," I argue with a whine.

Theo’s hands are on me then, lifting me from the tub by my waist. I gasp as water sloshes between us, dripping onto the ground. His shirt becomes see-through, revealing the hard lines of his abs and chest. He holds me above him, our breaths mingling, lips almost touching. "When I touch you, Ida. It will be when you want me to. Not your heat or alcohol messing with your mind."

Why was that so hot? I pout. "You said you’d help."

"And I will help..." He holds me now using one arm and grabs a towel, wrapping it around me, pinning my arms inside like a mini towel prison. "When you’re not drunk."
