Chapter 73: Fighting Temptation

"Or don’t!" Someone shouts from the other side of the door.

We freeze on the spot, staring at each other. My breath halts, and the sound of my heart pounds loudly in my ears. I wait to strain and listen for the voice again. It’s almost like it was a part of our imagination.

"Don’t command him to do anything right now, Princess."

My mouth drops open. There it is again! This time, it’s like a bucket of icy cold water has been thrown over me, the chill trickling across my skin, cooling down the heat and desire swirling inside of me. The fogginess in my mind starts to clear, and I sit up, the cover sliding down from my shoulder, exposing me more to the cold.

Theo reaches for me. "Don’t," he whispers. "Stay. They will go away." His hand lowers then, and skilled fingers instantly find a spot on my clit that forces my hand in my mouth to stop me from crying out. I shut my quivering legs at the sudden sensations flooding down there and glared at Theo, smacking at his arm to stop.

Those deep blue eyes flash with challenge. No, dammit!

"Princess..." That familiar voice calls again, distracting me from Theo, who is going under the covers.

"Yes?" I call out, pleased I don’t sound breathless or strange, especially when Theo’s thumb circles that spot and pushes down one of my legs under the covers.

"I say this for both of our sakes... Please don’t mate with another." That completely throws me off guard, and I fall onto the headboard with a muffled cry when I feel Theo’s tongue rooted deep inside of me. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

I fall over the edge as his tongue thrusts in and out of me while his thumb plays with my clit; like a wave, it keeps washing over me again and again. I try to push Theo away, but I’m weak to the sensations, and he holds me to his face with that skilled tongue and fingers.

He knows exactly what he’s doing. My mind starts to fog over again, and I lose myself to the feeling. My hands that were trying to push him away then clutched at his hair, tugged him closer as my head tilted back for more air.

"Idalia." Kharis’ voice is harder than any time I’ve heard him speak before. It is in warning, and I feel it in my bones. "He will have my head for this."

"You’re friends," I manage to say after moments of silence pass, and I try not to roll my hips against Theo. Luckily, I don’t sound... estranged. "He won’t kill you."

"If anyone else came here tonight... It wouldn’t only be my head but yours and your little slave’s." His words bring me back from the edge of desire. Theo continues to lap at my folds and reaches for my breast, but I smack his hand away, slowly allowing my thoughts to take over.

"You’re rumoured to be with the Prince," Kharis continues. "This would ruin you and any peace treaty between the kingdoms."

"I’m not that important-"

"Yes, you are!" Kharis slams his fist into the door. I jump at the sound and completely disregard Theo, this time finding the strength to move around him until I am standing naked beside the bed.

Theo sits up; his hair is tousled, unbound from his tie, his cheeks flushed, his body glistening, and his cock twitching. He is so alluring, especially those eyes and because of how quickly he made me orgasm again and again. He must know how to please a woman because of his position. It hurts a little to think that way.

Turning my back to him, I let the chill of the bed chamber fall over me, cooling my senses. I know I can’t deny his invitation if I look at him any longer.

"You are important," Kharis says again, this time calmer, softer as though he pleads with me.

"How?" I threw my hands up, realising that Kharis was listening closely to the door.

He sighs, and I hear his body slump into the door. "I think you are more important to Eryx than either of you know... " I don’t answer. I don’t understand his words, nor do I wish to.

When he knows I will not respond, Kharis adds hesitantly, "Until we are gone... Try to... Maybe stick to the Prince only for your... situation. Don’t be reckless, not right now."

So, Kharis also knew about my circumstances. It was so embarrassing. It was also surprising how Faidon and Kharis didn’t seem bothered, flustered or embarrassed by it. Were they quite open in the South about these things?

"Ida," Theo whispers. "Come back to bed."

I close my eyes to the sound of his voice and the pulse in my veins urging me to return to him, allow him to take over my body, allow him to mate with me.

"I hear a nighttime stroll is beautiful in the snow, especially with company as stunning as yourself," Kharis says quietly on the other side of the door.

"It is also freezing," I say dryly, sounding more and more like myself. I don’t chance a look behind me. I already know that bed is all the more enticing, especially with Theo keeping it warm.

Kharis chuckles on the other side of the door. "It is, but will you really let this chance go amiss?"

I snort. "What chance is that?"

"To ask me anything you want."

My mouth clamps shut at that.

"I am one of his closest friends..."

"And you would really give up the kingdom’s secrets? All so I won’t mate with another?" I ask a little haughtily.

"I don’t think you realise how much I favour my own life," Kharis jests, but his voice is still urgent.

"Fine." Without looking at Theo, I stride toward my closet. The more distance I put between us, the clearer my head. "I’m sorry," I say quietly as I tug on some breeches.

"You will choose him over me?" Theo’s voice is closer to me than I expected, and I almost jump when his arms wrap me from behind, his lips leaving a small, tender kiss on my neck.

My eyes close to his touch. "I am not choosing anything," I say, then frown when I feel his arms tighten around me, no doubt disbelieving my words. "Kharis is right, Theo. Anyone could have come here tonight, especially after what happened at the ball, and we could have been caught."

"No one would have come here tonight," he pouts against my throat as his thumbs brush small circles above my waist. "He is just scaring you. And you are choosing that Prince."

He hisses ’Prince’ like it is a curse. I raise my hand to cup his cheek and lean into him a little more. "It is only until they are gone," I whisper truthfully.

Once the peace treaty is in place, which will probably only take another week or two, their party will be gone, and we will be left here. I will be focusing on Deyanira and whatever this new threat is to our kingdom, and Theo will remain my slave until we can finally escape this wretched place.

Theo sighs and leaves another kiss on my neck. It tingles, and I have to keep fighting the urge to turn around and kiss him. But Kharis’ whistling from the other side of the door snaps me out of my desires.

I pull Theo’s arms off me and throw on a shirt quickly, grab my jacket and leave the room before he can lure me back to bed.
