Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Kindred Spirits

When Ethan Sinclair and Kiana Sutton arrived at the old manor, they found quite a few people there.

The rest of the eldest branch was busy, only Neva Sheffield and Quinn Sinclair came.

From the second branch, everyone showed up except for Brooke Sinclair.

Brooke was already married off, and unless it was an important day, she rarely came to the old house.

Every time Kiana saw Quentin Sinclair, he always looked at her with this frivolous yet ambiguous gaze that made her deeply uncomfortable.

"Kiana and Ethan are here, let’s begin dinner."

Once the old lady spoke, everyone filed into the dining room.

During the meal, the old lady had Kiana sit beside her, and Kiana obediently took the seat.

When Ethan was about to sit next to Kiana, Quinn darted over, "I want to sit with sister-in-law!"

Ethan shot her a cold glare, but Quinn just made a silly face at him and enthusiastically put food on Kiana’s plate. "Sister-in-law, Nanny Chapman’s braised pork is amazing, you have to try it."

Rosalind Joyce, watching this exchange, chimed in sarcastically, "I didn’t expect our always wild and untamed Miss Quinn to get along so well with Kiana. I’m really curious—how do you two even communicate?"

Quinn was the Sinclair Family’s youngest princess, the apple of everyone’s eye.

She spent her days disdaining this, looking down on that; her nose was perpetually in the air.

No one expected that a mute, of all people, would win her over.

Quinn flashed Rosalind a radiant smile. "Aunt Rosalind, sister-in-law is beautiful and kind—isn’t it perfectly normal I like her? Besides, we’re soulmates, one look and we know exactly what the other means, no words needed."

She added warmly, "Besides, nowadays people spit out so much nonsense—if even one sentence out of ten is true, that’s impressive. So honestly, why bother talking at all?"

The implication, of course, was that Rosalind always talked a lot but none of it mattered.

"Quinn! No talking at the table or in bed!"

At Neva Sheffield’s rebuke, Quinn pouted. "But Aunt started it. If I didn’t respond, wouldn’t that be rude?"

Rosalind Joyce: "..."

Marcus Sinclair shot Rosalind a cold glare, and her face turned green, then white. Seeing the old lady’s displeasure, she shut up fast.

After that, the atmosphere at the table was relatively harmonious.

Today wasn’t any special occasion, yet the old lady had gathered so many people for dinner—she was obviously up to something.

Sure enough, after the meal, the old lady called a family meeting.

Marcus Sinclair was clearly impatient, at once raising the matter of getting Quentin Sinclair into Evercrest Group.

"Mom, Ethan, Quentin is one of the Sinclairs. He picked up a great deal of expertise studying abroad—perfect timing for him to join the company and contribute to Evercrest Group."

Seeing Ethan say nothing, Marcus pressed on, "The new railway project just started; more hands are exactly what we need. Quentin could take some pressure off Ethan too."

On the surface, Marcus wanted Quentin to help out, but in truth, he wanted his son to replace Ethan.

When the old man handed the company to Howard Sinclair, Marcus was already dissatisfied.

And when Howard was thrown out by the old lady, letting Ethan take over Evercrest Group, Marcus was even less content.

He’d already lost to Howard and would never allow his son to lose to Howard’s son too.

Since Ethan took over Evercrest Group, the old lady never meddled in company matters. But today, she actually agreed: "I think it’s a good idea. Ethan, what do you say?"

Ethan’s face gave nothing away; it was impossible to guess what he was thinking.

Just as Kiana expected him to refuse, he suddenly smirked. "If Grandma says yes, then yes."

Marcus exhaled in relief, shooting Quentin a telling glance.

Quentin got the message, first offering the old lady a cup of tea, then walking over to Ethan. "Fifth Brother, I’ll be relying on your guidance in the future."

In front of the old lady, Ethan wouldn’t put Marcus on the spot, so he accepted the tea—but some things still needed to be said.

"Evercrest Group has always been a meritocracy. I’ll give you half a year to prove yourself."

"I’ll give it my best."

Afterward, the old lady called Neva Sheffield, Rosalind Joyce, and Kiana over.

"There’s another reason I called you here today. I’m getting old; I can’t manage the Albatross Foundation anymore. Eventually, the chairman’s seat will have to go to one of you."

The moment Rosalind heard this, her eyes lit up—her chance had come.

The Albatross Foundation was the charity the old lady and old master set up together, with a sixty-year history in Varden.

Plus, it was a stakeholder in Evercrest Group. If you became chairman, you got a vote in major group decisions.

Chairmanship was serious, real power. With that in hand, who’d dare show her a sour face?

Thinking this, Rosalind quickly scooted to the old lady’s side. "Mom, may you live to a hundred and see centuries come and go—managing Albatross for another hundred years will be no trouble at all."

Quinn rolled her eyes—what a load of phony flattery.

The old lady smiled. "If I did that, I’d be an old monster by now." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Rosalind started to say more, but the old lady had already turned to Neva. "Neva, you’ve put your heart into Albatross for years—now, I’ll hand chairmanship over to you."

Reactions around the room varied widely.

Neva truly hadn’t expected the old lady to leave such an important seat to her. Compared to Rosalind’s social finesse and maneuvering, she was always a little behind in these things.

And Rosalind’s expression could no longer be called merely sour.

Noticing Neva was still in shock, Quinn nudged her gently, and Neva quickly smiled at the old lady. "Mom, I won’t let you down."

The old lady nodded, then set her eyes on Rosalind. "Rosalind, you’re vice-chair. Make sure to support Neva."

Rosalind’s hands nearly clawed bloody marks into her palms—but with the old lady there, she could only choke down her anger and nod. "Of course."

"Hmm... And Kiana, come here to Grandma."

After Kiana walked over, Rosalind grudgingly made room for her.

The old lady took her hand and smiled. "Kiana, I’m worried Neva and Rosalind might get too busy, so I’m appointing you as vice-chair. Help your aunts share the load."

Kiana was stunned. She genuinely hadn’t expected the old lady to give her the Albatross Foundation vice-chairmanship.

She instinctively glanced at Ethan. He, too, looked a bit surprised, but soon his expression darkened.

Just as Kiana was about to gesture something, the old lady spoke first. "When you were in school, you did volunteer work and always had a soft, kind heart. I’m sure you’ll have no trouble with this."
