His Obsession Began After Losing Her-Chapter 91: Shuri’s Sacrifice: Her Untold Story
Chapter 91 - Shuri's Sacrifice: Her Untold Story
Shuri woke up, her entire body aching. Every movement sent sharp pains shooting through her, and she winced as she tried to recall what had happened.
Oh, right.
Sigmund had hit her, causing her to fall onto a low glass table, shattering it and leaving her back riddled with cuts and bruises.
The pain from the fall still burned through her body.
Before losing consciousness, she remembered hearing Sigmund's panicked cries.
"No, no, no... How could I let this happen to such a beautiful body?"
He immediately called for a doctor, his concern not for her well-being but for her appearance.
What a fucking sadist.
After spending a week with Sigmund, Shuri had come to realize he was truly a sadistic bastard. She had never felt such an intense desire to kill someone, especially after witnessing how he regularly took pleasure in emotionally and mentally tormenting Noran.
"Ran..." she breathed his name, her thoughts filled with her lover.
She wanted to get up and go to him, but her body refused to move as she lay on the bed. The doctor had bandaged her wounds but hadn't given her any painkillers, something she had expected of Sigmund, who only cared about her physical appearance.
Sigmund was obsessed with how his puppets looked, especially those he deemed beautiful. He went to great lengths to pick out outfits for both her and Noran, ensuring that servants regularly cleaned and styled them to his ideal.
If it wasn't for the severe headaches he suffered each time he tried to be intimate with Shuri, he wouldn't have gone insane and hit her because he couldn't sleep with her.
"I need to go to him," Shuri said softly to herself.
She struggled to get up but ended up collapsing onto the bed once more.
"So useless..." she cursed herself.
"Didn't you come here to save him? Get up!" she mentally scolded herself.
Frustration, helplessness, and desperation overwhelmed her, and Shuri ended up sobbing in bed.
She had been enduring so much.
No matter what happened to her, Shuri hadn't shed a tear until the moment she saw Noran crying in front of her. That sight broke the stance she had been working so hard to maintain.
No one should know that she wasn't truly brainwashed; otherwise, her plan to rescue Noran from Sigmund would be jeopardized. But seeing him so sad, to the point of crying helplessly because of her, caused her more pain than any physical suffering.
It was a torment that cut deeper than any wound, making her feel as though she was breaking apart from the inside out.
Shuri lay back down, letting her tears flow freely.
Her mind drifted back to the day when Noran had gone missing.
The memory was vivid, haunting her relentlessly.
The frantic hours, the anxious moments when no one knew where he was, even the police and Roy's superior team couldn't help locate him.
On the third day of Noran's disappearance, a photo arrived, showing Noran held captive, bound and gagged.
The sight of it caused Shuri to collapse, and she developed a high fever.
As she lay there, burning with fever and slipping in and out of consciousness, guilt consumed her.
Noran had spent more than a decade searching for her, suffering through the pain of losing her in their past life, and now she couldn't even last three days not knowing where he was or what had happened to him.
Shuri wondered how much despair Noran must have felt when she died in their past life and how he had endured all those years searching for her in this one.
When she miraculously recovered from the fever, Shuri was surprised to discover that she could look into people when she touched them.
She had regained her divine ability!
But how?
Didn't she give away her divine ability to save Noran back then?
Why and how did she get it back?
However, the power was weak, much weaker than before.
She couldn't see others' auras or read through them without touching them. Even when she did touch someone, she couldn't read them as efficiently as before, only catching bits and pieces.
But that was enough.
Relieved and grateful for this divine ability, Shuri approached Roy to plot Noran's rescue.
She told Roy everything—how she suspected Sigmund was the one who took Noran, her suspicion that Sigmund had some power to control minds.
She mentioned the butterfly necklace that Noran had gifted her had a tracking purpose, and she planned to let Sigmund brainwash her so they could track where he took Noran through her necklace.
She also shared her observation from fighting with Jacob, that he had snapped out of the mind control for a bit when the dog barked, so Roy should bring dogs with him when he located the hideout.
Roy was skeptical at first, reluctant to proceed with such a dangerous plan. "Shuri, it's too risky. What if something happens to you?"
"This is the only way to find Ran," Shuri insisted, her resolve unshakable. "I can't sit here and do nothing while he's suffering."
In the end, they proceeded with the plan.
Shuri infiltrated Sigmund's mansion, allowing him to believe he had brainwashed her.
However, each time Sigmund tried to use his power on Shuri, not only was she unaffected, but her power clashed with his, causing a side effect that attacked his mind, giving him severe headaches.
But Sigmund didn't give up trying to make Shuri his permanent puppet. His constant harassment gave her ample chances to look into him for more clues.
It was through these moments that Shuri managed to locate the cure for Noran's poison. Whenever Roy and his team came to disturb Sigmund, she seized the opportunity to retrieve the cure and secretly add it to Noran's meals, feeding it to him.
She even swapped out all his poisonous syringes from the safe; Sigmund kept them in with vitamin shots.
In this hellish environment, her only relief came from seeing Noran slowly recovering from the poison.
Her family had always said she wasn't a good liar, and Shuri had feared she couldn't convincingly act like a real puppet, but she managed to pull it off.
Now, all she needed was to get them out of this hell.
And yet, she couldn't even get up!
When her tears had almost dried up, a day had already passed.
As Shuri opened her eyes, she saw a pink butterfly fluttering around her.
Despite her weakened power, she could see the blessing.
She noticed it would sometimes fly in and out of Noran's body as if protecting him.
Shuri looked at the butterfly and muttered, "He must be looking for me..."
As she struggled to get up, the butterfly landed close to her. With a soft gaze, Shuri looked at it and said, "Please don't tell him I'm hurt."
The butterfly appeared to understand and left the room.
Shortly after, Sigmund entered to check on her.
Shuri continued to maintain a flawless puppet facade, listening to his grumbling and using any opportunity to read into him more when he touched her.
When he removed the precious butterfly necklace and put his cold collar around her neck, Shuri's heart felt a chill.
With this collar, she could already foresee her fate.
Because she had chosen to get back together with Noran, they had to endure the same fate.
It seemed Noran had realized this too when Sigmund used Shuri as a hostage to make him surrender.
At that moment, when Noran was kneeling before Shuri, he looked at her with such guilt and sadness that her heart ached, almost breaking her resolve.
"I understand now why you avoided me," he said, smiling gently at her. "But Rin, I'm so selfish. Even now, I still want to be with you. Do you hate me for putting you through all this pain?"
Shuri realized that even in a moment like this, Noran feared losing her affection more than his own life.
What a foolish, endearing man.
Why did he always doubt her love for him?
She couldn't prolong this charade any longer.
Letting her perfect puppet facade slip away, she revealed the warmth and love she felt for him.
With a tender smile that spoke volumes, she gave him the affection he so desperately craved and the words he had always longed to hear.
"I love you, Ran," she said, her voice tender and filled with emotion.
Without waiting for his response, Shuri spun around and fired at Sigmund.
The bullet missed his head, striking his shoulder instead.
She clicked her tongue in annoyance at herself.
Sigmund, now wounded, stared back at her in disbelief.
How had she broken out of his mind control so quickly? He had poured all his strength into brainwashing her just a short moment ago, thinking it was the perfect scheme to break Noran.
Shuri smirked at his stupidity and didn't give him the opportunity to react before firing another shot. Sigmund, clutching his shoulder, fell to the ground to dodge it. The bullet was quicker, grazing the side of his neck.
All of this happened so quickly that by the time Noran reached out for Shuri, Sigmund had already shouted out the word, "Dispose," in desperation.
A sharp ping sounded from the collar, and Shuri felt a sharp pain in her neck.
The collar injected the fatal poison, then broke into two pieces. As it fell away, Shuri dropped backward.
"Rin!" Noran cried out, his voice breaking with anguish.
He caught her just in time, his face a mask of devastation. "No, Rin!"
"I... I'm fine..." Shuri forced her eyes to stay open, trying to calm him, but she saw the tears already forming in his eyes. Her heart ached once more; she had made him cry again.
She reached up with a trembling hand, gently touching his cheek, trying to offer him some comfort. "Don't... cry..."
However, her words had barely any effect on Noran as his tears fell freely now, landing on her pale face.
"It'll be alright, it'll be alright... I'll save you... You're going to be okay... You won't die this time..." His words tumbled out in a desperate litany, his voice repeating the phrases over and over.
Though it seemed he was speaking to her, she knew he was really trying to reassure himself, clinging to the hope that she would survive.
Leaning against his chest, she could hear his heartbeat, rapid and frantic with adrenaline and anxiety. Her own heartbeat, however, was slowing, the life gradually slipping away from her.
