Chapter 48- The Rise (Part 6)

The moment the bullet left the barrel, Rein’s body moved as he leaped forward, wrapping his arms around Emily as he covered her body with his. Then, Rein felt a strong impact on his back, followed by an overwhelming burning sensation that took over his senses. He felt as if his entire body had been paralyzed.

Emily was completely shocked and silent, not even understanding what was happening. She just stared at Rein silently, her eyes blinking slowly.

Rein clenched his teeth as he looked up at her. "Are you... ok?" He asked.

The girl, still in shock, nodded her head faintly. So, Rein smiled faintly before he released her and turned around, looking straight at the culprit. It was none other than Virgo, with a strong glare on his face.

Rein then slowly stood up as he grunted under his breath. The bullet had dug deep into his back, so every move hurt greatly.

"Hah..." Virgo smirked. "You were ready to protect that little girl with your life, huh, Rein?"

"..."

"You’ve grown soft... Soft and weak." Virgo said with a disdainful look on his face, as if he loathed Rein’s very existence. "The Rein I know wouldn’t do such a thing. What happened to you, huh? What became of you?"

"..." Rein didn’t reply as he breathed heavily and tried to ignore the immense pain coming from his back. He instead signaled for Alex. "Take them out of here. I will handle the rest."

Alex looked at him with a dark frown, seeing the blood seeping out of his back. That was a very serious injury, and he could immediately tell. Even Rein must be very affected by it. But he knew not to refuse that offer.

For him, Violet’s family was of utmost priority. He knew that Rein agreed with him, too, so he stood up.

"Mr Cain, Miss Victoria, we will get out of here." He said.

"But, Rein..."

"I will handle this and come after you. It shouldn’t take long." Rein said as he took a fighting stance. "He isn’t that much of a problem anyway."

Those words made Virgo clench his weapon even tighter.

So, the family stood up and tried to move out of the shipment compartment. Suddenly, Virgo changed his aim toward the family.

"And where do you think you’re going, huh? Who said you can just go out without my permissio-"

*Swish*

Before he could even realize, a projectile appeared out of nowhere, knocking his weapon out of his hand. Rein then dashed forward and swung his sword like a flash. However, for a second time, the sword hit an invisible barrier around Virgo.

The man screeched as he stepped back instinctively, falling to the ground.

"I did. What are you going to do about it?" Rein asked coldly. "Move." He signaled for the group as they quickly exited the container and tried to run away.

"You’re dead, Rein. You aren’t leaving this place alive." Virgo said as he stood up and grabbed his weapon. Even as the building was crumbling around them, the two stared at each other coldly.

They both felt it... This was the last time they would face each other. Whoever emerges from this fight as a winner will get to live. It was the last dance.

*Splurt*

Blood seeped out of Rein’s injury, making him wince. He felt like his back was burning, and he couldn’t move properly because of it. The more it bled, the more it became a problem for him.

However, he made sure not to show that on his face. He couldn’t allow Virgo to notice a single weakness.

’I need to kill him before this entire place collapses on my head.’

So, he immediately took a fighting stance. Channeling his energy, Rein dashed forward like a flash. At the same time, Virgo aimed his gun and shot several bullets at the same time. They were extremely fast and sudden, way faster than what the agents could pull off.

’Hm.’ Rein frowned as he quickly dashed to the side, letting the bullets trail him. Then, he leaped in the air, pressing his foot against the wall and launching himself forward. Two arrows formed around him as they flew toward Virgo from both flanks.

The man didn’t remain stationary as he ran to the side, adjacent to Rein. His gun kept shooting at him.

’That gun isn’t normal, and those bullets certainly aren’t. Could that be his special weapon?’ Rein squinted his eyes as he slid behind a container and peeked at Virgo. ’That’s mildly annoying. He also got that barrier that stops my blade. It should have some sort of limit, though. I doubt it’s completely invincible.’

"You know, Rein." As he was trying to find a plan, Rein heard Virgo speaking from the other side. "I always loathed you and everything you stand for."

"..."

"A man with your talents and potential, someone who could reshape this world and yet you chose to be a guard dog for the agency. You chose to be an obedient servant to them instead of being your own self. I never understood how someone like you could accept such a life for themselves."

"..." Rein didn’t reply as he simply stared to the side, trying to locate Virgo.

"You could’ve joined me and together, we would’ve made this world our playground. Yet... All you did is stop me for these rotten bastards. I never loathed a person more in my life."

*BANG*

Suddenly, Rein felt a chill run down his spine as he looked up. Virgo shot a bullet into the metal rails above and the bullet suddenly deflected and changed direction. It descended down toward him. So quickly, rolled to the side, barely dodging it.

*BANG* *BANG*

Two more bullets hit other surfaces and then deflected toward him. Rein couldn’t stop for a second as he dashed to the side.

"Why? Why would you do that to yourself? Have you got no dignity? Have you not seen what those bastards did?"

*BANG* *BANG* *BANG*

Each bullet came closer and closer until... Rein tried to twist his body and dodge the last one, only for it to cut through his arm, barely missing a vein.

"Tsk." Rein clicked his tongue as he hid behind a wall. ’Essence-infused bullets aren’t fun whatsoever. He could control where they hit and deflect to... It’s hard to try to dodge them in this darkness. I need to shorten the distance between us.’ 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"You’re really deep into your own delusion, Virgo." Rein finally spoke. "Thinking your cause is somehow better than theirs is foolish. You are all greedy, power-hungry bastards with no morals. Spare me the moral lesson, would you? We are all rotten to the core in this world."

"That’s what you try to convince yourself with," Virgo replied as he aimed his gun, ready to shoot again. "Power in the hands of fools is a dangerous weapon. Power in the hands of people who know its worth as I do, is the correct course of things."

’Where is he?’ Virgo thought.

His eyes darted left and right, feeling the nerves in his mind. He knew Rein could come from any angle.

"And that is why you’re exactly a loser, Virgo. You give yourself more credit than you will ever deserve."

’Behind me!!’ Virgo immediately turned around and shot the bullet. However, Rein had already anticipated it as he ducked down and then grabbed Virgo’s arm, twisting it to a painful degree.

Virgo immediately launched a punch with the other hand. Virgo immediately stopped it.

"Death is the only outcome for people like you."
