The iron door creaked shut behind them, plunging the team into a stifling, oppressive silence. The narrow corridor stretched endlessly ahead, its dim torchlight casting warped shadows along the damp, stone walls. The cells on either side were empty—at least at first glance.

"We’ve walked into a nightmare," Ghost muttered, his voice barely above a whisper.

Shadow adjusted her scope, her rifle raised. "Stay alert. The quieter it gets, the worse it usually is."

The team advanced cautiously, the faint clinking of their gear echoing in the narrow passage. Viper kept close to Rook, clutching the ancient tome tightly. Its cover seemed to pulse faintly, as though alive, and with every step, she could feel an invisible pull drawing her deeper into the prison.

Bulwark paused near one of the cells, his flashlight sweeping the inside. The flickering beam revealed scratch marks etched deep into the walls, accompanied by cryptic symbols that seemed to writhe under the light.

"Looks like someone—or something—tried to claw their way out," he grunted.

"Or was dragged back in," Shadow added grimly.

The oppressive silence was shattered by a sudden, high-pitched scream that echoed through the corridor. The team froze, weapons raised, their breathing heavy.

"Did anyone see where that came from?" Rook demanded, his eyes scanning the shadows.

"No visual," Ghost replied, his voice steady despite the tension.

The scream came again, closer this time, accompanied by the rattling of chains. One by one, the cell doors began to groan open, their hinges screeching as if in protest.

"Contact!" Shadow called out, her finger hovering over the trigger.

Figures began to emerge from the cells—gaunt, pale creatures with hollow eyes and twisted limbs. Their movements were jerky, as if their bodies were being controlled by unseen forces. The air grew colder with every passing second, frost creeping along the walls and floor.

"Engage!" Rook barked, firing the first shot.

The corridor erupted into chaos as the team opened fire. Bulwark’s heavy machine gun roared, cutting down waves of the creatures, while Shadow picked them off with surgical precision. Ghost moved like a wraith, taking down stragglers with his suppressed pistol and combat knife.

Viper stumbled as a creature lunged at her, its skeletal hands grasping for the tome. Before it could reach her, Rook slammed it against the wall with the butt of his rifle, finishing it with a precise shot to the head.

"They’re after the book!" Viper shouted, her voice laced with fear.

"No kidding!" Ghost retorted, dodging another attacker.

The creatures’ numbers seemed endless, pouring out of the cells like a flood. The team fought valiantly, but for every creature they felled, two more took its place.

"We can’t hold this position!" Bulwark roared, reloading his weapon.

"There!" Shadow pointed to a heavy iron door at the end of the corridor. "That’s our way out!"

"Move!" Rook commanded.

The team began a fighting retreat, laying down suppressive fire as they made their way toward the door. Viper chanted an incantation from the tome, the words spilling from her lips in a voice that didn’t feel like her own. The symbols on the door glowed faintly, reacting to her words.

"Almost there!" she yelled, her hands trembling as she turned the final page.

The door swung open with a deafening groan, revealing a swirling abyss of darkness.

"Go, go, go!" Rook shouted, shoving Viper through first.

The team dove into the void, the creatures’ shrieks fading into silence as the door slammed shut behind them.

When the darkness lifted, they found themselves in a cavernous chamber, its walls lined with glowing runes. At its center stood a massive, chained obelisk, pulsating with an eerie light.

"This isn’t over," Rook said, his voice grim.

"Not even close," Viper whispered, her gaze fixed on the obelisk.
