Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition-Chapter 548: Story : The Toxic Tyrant
The grotesque figure atop the cracked waste containment tank let out a guttural roar that echoed across the desolate industrial zone. Its toxic sludge-covered arms stretched wide as if commanding its corrosive horde. Beneath the dim glow of the poisoned sky, the Zombie Eradication Tactical Unit (ZETU) braced themselves for another brutal fight.
"We've got to take that thing out before it floods the area with more of those sludge-walkers!" Captain Marcus Kane shouted, gripping his shotgun tightly.
Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett already had her sniper rifle aimed. "Just say the word, Captain."
"Hold," Marcus said, scanning the situation. "We need a plan. Blaze, how much fuel do you have left?"
Jenna Hart checked her tank. "Enough to turn this place into a barbecue. But if I burn too close to that sludge, we could release toxic fumes."
"Then we'll need to keep the fight contained," Marcus decided. "Huntress, Brain—what's the weak spot on that thing?"
Lila "Huntress" Navarro studied the monstrous overlord through her scope. Its bloated chest pulsated with toxic fluid, the veins glowing faintly green. "The core—it's in its chest. Take that out, and it should collapse."

"Sounds simple," Derek "Shield" Coleman muttered, raising his riot shield as the corrosive horde advanced. "Except for the army between us and it."
"Not simple," Ethan "Brain" O'Connor chimed in through the comms. "Those sludge-walkers are releasing corrosive mist every time you shoot them. Watch your distance."
The first wave of zombies rushed forward, their twisted bodies hissing with acidic ooze. Derek planted himself in front of the group, his reinforced shield absorbing the splatter of corrosive fluid as Jenna swept her flamethrower across the horde, incinerating the nearest attackers.
"Shield, hold the line!" Marcus ordered. "Quick Shot, focus on thinning the horde. Blaze, cover Shield. Huntress, you're with me—let's get to higher ground!"
Lila and Marcus sprinted toward a rusted scaffolding overlooking the tank. Zombies clawed at their heels, but Marcus' shotgun blasts and Lila's precise pistol shots cleared the way. They climbed the structure just as the Toxic Tyrant roared again, its glowing chest beginning to emit waves of energy that revitalized its horde.
"Brain, what's it doing?" Marcus demanded.
"Bad news—it's accelerating the horde's activity," Ethan replied. "If you don't take it out now, we're going to get overwhelmed."
From her vantage point, Riley picked off zombies that came too close to Derek and Jenna, but the numbers kept growing. "Captain, we're running out of time here!"
Marcus reached the top of the scaffolding, leveling his shotgun at the Tyrant. "Huntress, hit it with everything you've got!"
Lila unloaded her pistols, aiming for the pulsating core in the creature's chest. The Tyrant shrieked as the bullets hit their mark, but it didn't fall. Instead, it leapt down from the tank, landing with a thunderous crash that sent toxic sludge spraying in all directions.
"Shield, Blaze, fall back!" Marcus yelled. "Quick Shot, keep firing! Huntress, reload!"
The Tyrant charged toward the group, its massive arms swinging wildly, leaving corrosive craters in the ground.
Marcus gritted his teeth. "We end this now. Brain, any final tips?"
"Hit the core with something big," Ethan replied. "It's your only shot."
Marcus nodded. "Blaze, get ready with an incendiary. We're taking this thing down."
