How Did I Become an F1 Driver?-Chapter 165 - 112: Joining Prema Racing
The headquarters of Prema Racing is a brick factory full of traces of time, but it’s just the exterior that shows those traces.
Led by the staff inside, Qin Miao discovered that the factory’s interior was entirely modern, both in terms of decor and equipment.
Qin Miao then took his luggage to Roxin’s office.
Seeing Qin Miao, Roxin’s smile was genuinely sincere, the wrinkles on his brow and at the corners of his eyes indicating his excellent mood, as if seeing Qin Miao was seeing the bright future of his team.
"Welcome to Prema Racing, Qin! I’ve been waiting for some time now, and I’m looking forward to our cooperation over the next year." Without even shaking hands, Roxin cheerfully gave Qin Miao a big hug.
Embracing him and gently patting his back, Qin Miao said earnestly, "Thank you, Mr. Roxin, for your trust in me. I will do my best in every race this season."
Roxin smiled, disregarding the work he was busy with, and said directly, "I assume you’re ready to start working. Shall I take you to complete the entry procedures and handle the upcoming matters?"
After speaking, he led Qin Miao into the factory.
Although each season’s F2 cars are the same, the team will make certain adjustments to the car based on the driver’s habit and physical data to suit the driver.
Qin Miao came to the team today not only for the team photo shoot and recording a video for publicity but also to measure his hands and body data inside the car’s monocoque, which would inform the customization of his steering wheel and car seat for this season.
These items are as crucial as a soldier’s gun, a cavalry’s saddle, a tank’s cannon, and naturally need to be prepared at the season’s start.
How can a warrior go into battle without suitable weaponry and armor? The car seat and steering wheel are Qin Miao’s armor and weapon.
Since soon is the time to test the new car’s performance, the driver with the car’s break-in period, and the driver’s tuning suitability, the testing period is perfect for checking the car seat and steering wheel’s comfort. If unsuitable, adjustments can be made.
What surprised Qin Miao was that throughout the hustle of all this, Roxin was like a diligent ordinary worker, staying by his side the entire time.
It was as if he wasn’t a team leader with many heavy duties to handle but merely an ordinary staff member responsible for welcoming Qin Miao.
"Qin, there’s one last thing, the driver number issue."
Qin Miao nodded inquiringly, "Do I need to choose a driver number myself?"
Roxin smiled and shook his head, "No, no, no. Only F1 drivers can choose their desired driver number. For all FIA events outside of F1, the driver numbers are assigned by the team, so you can only use the number given by the team."
At this point, Roxin changed his tone, "But the good news is you still have a choice. Our team has four usable driver numbers, and Mick is already using number 20. We still have 21, 22, and 23 available."
"So, which number would you like?"
This really stumped Qin Miao; he had never thought about driver numbers before.
Now suddenly asked, with options provided, Qin Miao didn’t know which to choose.
Then Qin Miao casually chose number 22 using a common selection method.
"Number 22, then." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"Of course, but I’m curious why you chose this number."
Qin Miao shrugged, "I just picked randomly..."
Roxin shrugged along with Qin Miao, "Alright, your decision..."
"Okay, from now on, your racing suit and car will feature the number 22."
...
Since arriving and finding Roxin in Vicenza, Qin Miao became busy.
It was basically running around, testing physical fitness for new racing suits, running elsewhere for eye tests, and moving around to adjust helmet size, never stopping.
Though most of the hassles were resolved on the first day, Roxin arranged new accommodation for Qin Miao.
Being a private team, Prema naturally couldn’t afford to build a residential area for employees like Ferrari.
So, the accommodation arranged for Qin Miao was a local homestay, which was both characteristic and cheap for foreigners like him, maximizing cost-effectiveness.
Although the homestay’s living area was considerably larger than the employee dormitory in Maranello, over 90 square meters and even having a small attic for storing stuff, the environment was notably inferior compared to Maranello.
However, living in the city’s heart meant convenient transportation and complete surrounding infrastructure.
The only thing amusing Qin Miao and Qimeng was their homestay had a back door opening onto a small river, with houses around it constructed alongside the river, each house having a back door facing the river, and many small boats in the river.
Vicenza is merely sixty kilometers from the famous Water City Venice, so it’s understandable that this place carries a trace of Venice’s legacy.
