Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Look Up To_1

The train departs at eleven, and there are no seats available in the waiting hall; groups of tourists gather in pairs and threes, waiting for their train.

About half an hour later, a middle-aged uncle with a well-proportioned face, dressed in a Sun Yat-sen suit, rushed over to greet Mr. Song with two young lads in tow.

"Mr. Song, you brought two students with you too."

"Oh, Zhao, what a coincidence. The girl is my student, and the boy is her boyfriend."

"What? Boyfriend? Your school allows students to date?" Mr. Zhao couldn’t believe it.

Mr. Song replied, "They’ve been together for a while; we can’t just break them up because they’re in school, can we?" It’s better that Li Qiao’s boyfriend is with her; as a big guy, it’s not very convenient for me to look after a young girl. "Your school’s students are quite good, eh? You recruited two."

"Not as good as you, though. You took first place, so the competition this time shouldn’t be a problem either."

"Who knows?" Mr. Song said, leaving room for uncertainty.

He had full confidence in Li Qiao, but nothing is absolute until the exams are over.

"Which carriage are you guys in?" asked Mr. Zhao.

"..."

From the conversation between the two teachers, Li Qiao learned that the three belonged to No. 13 Middle School, and they were in the same carriage as them, even the seat numbers were adjacent.

Around ten forty, the announcement to check tickets and proceed to the platform came, and the group boarded the train while chatting.

The green train had continuous seats, and the carriage wasn’t too crowded.

After boarding, Li Qiao sat next to Qin Jin, planning to climb the Great Wall after the exams.

The students from No. 13 Middle School were engrossed in studying the topics selected by their teacher, while Mr. Zhao glanced at Li Qiao and another person not far away, "The competition is in a couple of days, and your student is still busy with love talk, aren’t you going to criticize that?"

"A proper relaxation is quite necessary."

"Just afraid of over-relaxing."

Mr. Song, however, was not concerned; since Li Qiao was married, dating would have already affected his studies if it was going to happen.

In the evening, when the train stopped at a station, Qin Jin got off to prepare boxed meals for everyone traveling together.

Mr. Song and Mr. Zhao were busy taking out money.

Qin Jin refused to accept it and struck up a conversation with the teachers. Over the meal, she managed to figure out the rough details about both teachers, and even coaxed out information about Li Qiao’s usual performance from Mr. Song.

Li Qiao couldn’t help but think highly of her.

Generous and sharp, knowing how to guide the conversation.

If he went into sales, he’d be the sales champion without a doubt.

After finishing the boxed meals, Qin Jin lay down on the table to sleep, while Li Qiao walked over to sit opposite him, resting his chin on his hand as he studied Qin Jin’s sleeping face.

The brows were sharp, slanted into the temples.

The interplay of light and shadow outlined his features, adding a touch of wild handsomeness.

A thought struck Li Qiao and he pulled out a notebook and pen to draw Qin Jin’s sleeping form.

When he awoke,

he handed the notebook to him.

With just a few strokes, the image of the person sprang to life on the paper.

"Are my eyelashes really that long?" Qin Jin rolled his eyes upward to check his eyelashes.

Li Qiao replied, "I exaggerated a bit to highlight your charming beauty."

"Pfft!" Qin Jin laughed, loving the compliment, "When will you draw me while I’m awake?"

"I can do that right now."

Qin Jin instantly sat up straight, "Draw."

Li Qiao smiled with pursed lips, "Too stiff; not natural. Be more relaxed."

Qin Jin deliberately relaxed, but Li Qiao couldn’t find the right feeling and packed away his notebook and pencil, "Next time."

Qin Jin: "..." After posing for so long, next time? He looked outside, "It’s dark now, aren’t you sleepy?"

Li Qiao yawned lightly, "You didn’t mention it earlier, but now that you did, I really am getting sleepy." She sat next to him again, leaning on his shoulder and closed her eyes to sleep.

Some time passed, and the sound of a train whistle reached their ears.

A moment later, the carriage shook violently once.

Li Qiao opened his eyes; they had just passed another station, and the platform was bustling with new passengers. "Jin, with all these people coming on, we should probably go back to our seats."

"Okay." Holding hands, the two returned to Mr. Song’s side.

Li Qiao sat by the window, and Qin Jin was squeezed in the middle.

Opposite her were teachers and students from the No. 13 Middle School.

Two students couldn’t understand the problem and asked Mr. Zhao for help.

Mr. Zhao thought for a long time before asking Mr. Song.

Mr. Song pondered for a moment, clueless, "I’m also stumped, Li Qiao, do you understand it?"

"If you, as a teacher, don’t understand it, how could I?" Li Qiao said, but still took the problem, read it seriously, and after a bit of thought, she found an approach. She explained her method of solving it.

There were too many steps.

The students opposite said they couldn’t remember them all, so she simply pulled out a notebook and worked out the solution.

She quickly figured out the answer and handed it to Mr. Zhao.

Mr. Zhao took the notebook, not sparing his praise, "Without even looking at the answer, the writing is eye-catching, neat as if printed, I wouldn’t want to deduct points even if it were wrong." He examined the steps carefully and passed them to the student next to him, "This solution is correct." He looked at Li Qiao, a bit envious, and said sarcastically, "Mr. Song, you guys are going strong this time. Our own two kids are probably in trouble."

Mr. Song appeared slightly proud, "Her accuracy rate in problem-solving is usually quite high."

Mr. Zhao shifted his focus, "Young man, are you Li Qiao’s classmate, or have you already started college?"

Just a second ago, Qin Jin was basking in reflected glory, bursting with pride. The next second, he deflated, a trace of coldness flashing in his eyes, why bring up the worst topic!

He suddenly regretted coming along.

Isn’t staying at home to sell morels for thirty-five yuan per jin delightful? Isn’t making money from knitting a month’s worth of wool for forty to fifty yuan enjoyable?

Wandering around with brothers, collecting antiques and finding treasures, how fun that would be.

With a teacher to protect his wife and company to keep her, what could go wrong?

To alleviate Qin Jin’s embarrassment, Li Qiao joked, "He’s studying at the ’Stay at Home’ University, majoring in the engineering of loose surface layers of land, grass science, and broadleaf plant research."

Qin Jin: "..." Damn! Having an education really is different, she, a farmer, could come up with such a long string of words.

"What university?" Mr. Zhao was confused for a moment, "What kind of engineering research is that? How come I’ve never heard of it."

Li Qiao: "I just told you, the school isn’t very famous, I’m so tired, I need a good rest to recharge for the exam." She closed her eyes.

Qin Jin also closed his eyes, afraid of being questioned further.

Mr. Song suddenly started to laugh; he now knew what Li Qiao’s significant other did for a living.

A farmer from the village.

....

The carriage lights were turned off around ten o’clock.

The interior immediately became dim, and Qin Jin abruptly opened his eyes.

He reached out and put his arm around Li Qiao’s shoulder.

Li Qiao leaned into his embrace, finding a comfortable position to sleep.

In the middle of the night, they were awakened by a shout.

Qin Jin had caught a dark-skinned young man.

It turned out that the man was a thief, and he had made his way to Qin Jin.

Several passengers stood up, claiming they had money missing.

The thief denied stealing the money and counter-accused, claiming he and Qin Jin were accomplices and had a fallout over splitting the loot, which was why he had been caught.

"Bullshit! If you say I’m an accomplice, what’s my name? Bring out the evidence!"

"We don’t use names in our line of work, you just snatched the money."

Everyone started discussing the matter.

Mr. Song and Mr. Zhao vouched for Qin Jin, stating they did not know the thief and the thief was adamant about operating separately from Qin Jin.

Li Qiao felt a pang of anxiety.

With such a confident tone from the thief, could he have planted something on Qin Jin?

She had seen in movies that thieves, after training, had lightning-fast hands, but Qin Jin’s pockets were flat.

She quickly felt her own pockets, empty, and then turned her gaze to her bag on her lap.

She stealthily reached into her bag while shielding herself from view and discovered something extra—was it money? It seemed to be not just cash.

Taking advantage of the dim surroundings and everyone’s attention on the thief and Qin Jin, she quietly tossed the items under the seat.
