Humanity.exe-Chapter 28: The Wraith
Walking along the path of dead bodies I could feel the presence of someone watching me. It was definitely hard not to notice it since the gaze was intense.
Without hesitation I pulled my deagle out and turned towards the direction I felt it was coming from. Dead ahead of me I could see a man matching the exact description that I saw on the screen.
It looked like Renji with the style of clothes but he really does have two guns on his hip with a sword on his back as well.
There’s a chance that it isn’t him but I definitely think that it is.
Seems like I wasn’t the only one to replace an arm based off of the metal one he’s rocking. His mask wasn’t pulsing with blue like the one we saw back at the house.
Instead it seemed to be black and purple with purple radiating off of the mask itself. Mana infused?
"Renji?" I questioned while keeping my finger close to the trigger.
"Wraith. You may call me Wraith. I don’t think the person you’re looking for is here." He responded with a robotic voice muffling his voice.
"You’re dressed a lot like him, it feels like you aren’t telling the truth." I said with a serious tone.
"I know who you are. Lotus/9 is looking for Karma.exe. Zero of Karma, the man who single handedly took out Vantablade." Wraith replied while crossing his arms.
Whether it is Renji or not, that is kind of concerning that people are aware of me like that. It also means that people have been watching us from the beginning.
I also can’t seem to understand why Renji is hiding his identity from me but I guess this is how it will be. Things might’ve changed for the better, at least he’s alive.
It is definitely him. That much I can say without any sort of hesitation but he changed quite a bit.
"Who’s been spreading that around?" I questioned with a calm, yet curious tone.
"Lotus/9 obviously seems to be the one making it clear that you guys are on the radar. You are only considered a threat because of how clean your take down of Vantablade was. Personally, I don’t care enough to deal with you." Wraith answered with a carefree tone.
Lotus/9 really isn’t f*cking around when it comes to handling us. They must be really pissed about us killing some of their guys and that the plan didn’t work at the port.
The little clean up crew they sent to deal with us was kind of pathetic in the grand scheme of things.
Never send scum to deal with monsters like us. That’s what I’m starting to think we are since people talk about us like that. Karma has a better reputation than most of the shit heads out here.
So someone is now tarnishing that with this hunt of theirs.
"Are you part of a gang affiliated with them or something? I don’t get why you wouldn’t want to deal with me while you can." I said with a bit of confusion in my voice.
"Because you are the one who will have a decision to make, not me." Wraith replied with no hesitation.
"What kind of a choice?" I asked with a more concerned tone.
"The choice to leave Karma or to stay and watch it burn. Maybe you can even save a few lives by convincing them to leave as well, who knows." Wraith responded before turning around.
Who the hell does he think he is, making me make a decision like that. But I also wouldn’t want to watch them burn, especially not after what they did for me.
They really would be a good ally to have in the future so I don’t want them to fade away into the darkness. Leaving them behind might be the best possible outcome to guarantee that everyone will survive.
I don’t have to make the decision today though... I can figure this out when I get back to the house. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"How long do I have to figure out this decision anyway?" I questioned.
"Two days. Trust me, it’ll be worth it regardless of the decision you make." Wraith answered before disappearing into the alleyway.
It’ll be worth it regardless of what decision I make? That doesn’t make it any easier to figure any of this shit out.
It just makes it even harder for me to understand who really benefits from this all. Karma was doing just fine before I came along so I’m sure it doesn’t make that big of a difference having me around.
If that was the case.... Wouldn’t that completely wipe out the chances of them recovering for quite some time?
I couldn’t stand around in a place like this thinking about all of that so I made my way back to the car. Luckily it wasn’t damaged during that horrendous gunfight so I started it up and made my way back to the safehouse.
It didn’t take very long for me to get there and it was honestly a peaceful drive.
After I parked the car I went inside to see what was going on since I left. The place was completely empty, almost like everyone was gone.
Did they just decide to disappear on me before I could disappear on them? All of this is starting to give me a damn headache, what is going on?
There’s no signs of blood or a struggle anywhere so they had to have left on their own. Nobody forced them to leave or hurt anybody, what happened here.
Clatter!! Clatter!!! That’s how it seemed until I heard something fall upstairs and it was quite obvious that someone was up there.
I didn’t hesitate to run up the stairs, following the sound of the stuff falling in one of the rooms. Before I knew it, I was standing in front of my room.
Reika was in there with stuff just thrown all over the damn place. She turned around to face me and all I could see were tears.
