Chapter 42: Struggle (4)

I dismissed Nyoshi after that since I had enough information to get some work done for the time being. It was time for me to figure out the best way to push us out of this struggle.

Click. Clack. Click. I immediately began to use my computer to try and search through different databases for any information on these gangs.

Lotus being at the top of the list due to the potential threat that they pose to our entire gang. They came up a few times on some police records but it wasn’t anything worth remembering.

The door creeked open and I didn’t hesitate to pull my deagle out from my holster since most people knock.

As I looked forward I realized it was just Reika entering my office and it threw me off for a moment. She usually knocked but Rezex probably has her feeling a bit out of it today.

"What’s up Reika?" I asked while lowering my deagle.

"A bit on guard I see. I think it’s smart but yeah, I’m here to talk about Rezex." Reika responded before closing the door.

I knew this was coming since I didn’t stop to approach them earlier. She’s definitely going to be curious about why I didn’t say anything when I first talked with her.

It would’ve saved me a bit of a headache if I mentioned it already but it was better for them to talk it out themselves.

"What about him?" I questioned while putting my deagle back in my holster.

"Is it really a good idea for him to be a part of this after he just left before, I mean it is a bit suspicious." Reika responded while pacing around the room.

"Rezex told me that he went to gather information and that he can’t speak for what Pinky went to do." I said with a confident, yet serious tone.

"I don’t get why he couldn’t tell me that before he left originally." Reika replied with irritation in her voice.

"Just calm down a moment. Rezex is a great addition to Kuroten, just like he was to Karma. Have a little more faith in him." I tried to reassure her.

I was a bit skeptical about most of Karma before I got used to some of them but it was a very short lived experience. Hardly got to know a lot of them and this Tess person was very quiet.

For her being the second in command... I never really heard anything about her. She also didn’t really interact with me all that much.

It made me wonder how much she truly contributed to everything.

I’m sure Reika would fight me on that without any hesitation if I tried to say anything negative about Tess. Pinky, Rezex, and Reika were the only ones I really knew much about.

Doc too, but his interactions with me were also very brief. We didn’t really talk much after I got what I needed from him so it doesn’t matter.

"I’m sorry. I just get a bit worried about these kinds of situations, but you don’t seem to be worried so it is dumb of me to worry." Reika said with a genuine tone before sitting down.

"Don’t worry about it. Rezex will be helpful like he was before, we’ve got other things to figure out in the meantime." I responded with a calm tone.

All of these gangs that Nyoshi told me about would be a way better focus for the time being. They will actually pose more of a problem than anything else right now.

This struggle is close to coming to an end with what we currently have figured out, at least that’s what I think. We’ll have our new doc here soon enough and our members are slowly growing more.

I’ll have to make someone a second in command to give me time to do some work as well.

Reika would probably make the most sense if I’m really thinking about it. She has the experience of a leader. I don’t really know much about Rezex’s experience and I don’t even know if he cares for that.

He’s more useful out in the streets like me so yeah, that is my decision.

I started to speak before Reika had the chance to. "I’d like for you to be my second in command officially." I said with a serious expression.

"Y...You’re serious? I me— Yes. I’d love to take advantage of this opportunity." Reika replied with a bit of a nervous tone in her voice.

"You shouldn’t be so nervous. I would’ve expected it if I was in your shoes." I said with a small smile.

"I just didn’t know, we’ve had a few bad interactions... But I’ll do my best to uphold everything when you aren’t around." Reika replied with a bit of confidence.

I gave her a pat on the head. "I trust you, take care of things when I’m not around." I said before standing up.

It is about time we get into the best possible spot we can get to. I’m going to get some shit done so we can get everyone armed properly.

This struggle of ours is done.

"Are you going somewhere?" Reika asked with a bit of curiosity and confusion in her voice.

"Not yet. I’m going to get my gear and check something before I do anything else." I answered before walking past her.

I left my office and made my way back to my room to get my gear. Reika could definitely handle everything while I’m working on some jobs in the meantime.

So I opened up my door and put on my street clothes to make it a lot easier to move around. Showing my face on the streets was probably going to be dumb so I grabbed a small mask that I snagged awhile back.

A skull like half mask with a bit of neon red light going throughout pieces of the mask.

Looking in the mirror I could definitely see that I’ve grown quite a bit since I first started doing anything in the streets.
