Humanity.exe-Chapter 45: The Past (1)

After leaving the remaining guys with that message I started to make my way back to the headquarters. Blood was all over my fists, something that didn’t even seem to phase me in the slightest.

Blood wasn’t really something that bothered me in the slightest, especially when it comes to killing some scum like that. I’ve learned not to let any of that bother me.

(8 Years ago.) Within the Kurogane Family Home.

Flashbacks to the past weren’t an uncommon occurrence for me since I can never forget about what made me who I am.

I could see Renji sitting across the room from me and honestly it wasn’t that much longer till dad passed away.

"When do you think Dad’s coming back?" Renji asked while kicking his feet on the couch.

"He’ll be back in a little while. You should be used to this by now." I responded with a bit of irritation in my voice.

Renji was always impatient when it came to dad since he liked having him around more than anything. I didn’t mind being around our father since I was always learning things from him.

He didn’t want either of us to live the kind of life he did but it didn’t really mean much to me. There’s not too many ways to live within the city of Kairox.

Kill or be killed is the typical saying that most people use within the city.

Shatter!! A window broke down the hallway from one of the spare rooms, it was easy to determine that from the sound alone.

"Hide somewhere Renji." I said quietly while slowly getting up from my chair.

I could feel my whole body shaking, the feeling of fear coursing throughout my body as I got ready for whoever broke into our home.

Grip. I picked up one of the small baseball bats that were leaning against the wall and gripped it tightly. Creeeek. A door opened down the hall, not long after I could hear some footsteps starting to approach.

Ba-thump. Ba-thump. My heart was beating out my chest as I felt my body starting to shake even more.

I don’t really have much experience in fighting or even the experience to kill someone if I need to. This was something I never expected to do in my life.

Dad told me that it wasn’t the path he wanted us on but I know that I can’t let anyone hurt my family either. I’d rather go out swinging than go out like a scared little bitch.

As soon as the person turned the corner I swung the bat as hard as I could towards them. WHAM!!! I felt it connect with them, it took a moment but then I realized they caught it.

The man was standing quite tall with some metal in his arm, one of his legs, and even one of his eyes were cybernetic. He was wearing an all grey suit with a red tie, a big bushy black beard, some scars across his face, and he was bald.

"Quite the swing for someone with no real strength to them." He said while looking down at me.

I looked behind me to notice Renji had listened to me and ran to hide somewhere.

"Anyway, I’ll be taking this." He continued on before snatching the bat away from me.

After yanking the bat out of my hands he immediately switched his grip on it and then slammed it into my gut.

"Fuhhhh!!" The wind was completely knocked out of me before I fell onto the floor.

It feels like a few ribs are broken... This guy hit me way harder than I could’ve possibly hit him. I can’t just lay here in the ground though, Renji needs my help...

"I really thought you’d have more in you since you had the balls to swing that bat at me." The man said with disappointment as he twirled the bat around.

"Cough. Cough." I couldn’t really speak, only coughs came out with a bit of blood.

I couldn’t help but grab my stomach as I laid there in pain. The man didn’t hesitate to walk past me after that, he didn’t seem to care about finishing me off. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Luckily you aren’t who I’m looking for kid. Your father is my target. But I don’t think he’s here, is he?" The man continued to speak as he looked around the room.

"Get the hell out of here!" Renji shouted with fear in his voice.

Renji surprised me back then, I didn’t think he had it in him to come out from the hiding spot. This was the day that made him scared of so much since...

"If you aren’t going to come at me with that knife, I’ll just take it from you." The man replied with a bit of excitement in his voice.

I tried to force myself to stand up as the man approached Renji. It all happened within a matter of seconds... Renji was quickly disarmed and laying on the ground.

The knife had fallen onto the ground and wasn’t very far from me but the guy was mor focused on Renji.

Kick!! Kick!!!! I could see him crying out as he laid on the floor with tears streaming down his face, getting progressively worse with each kick.

The pain within my ribs was killing me but I couldn’t just let Renji get beat like that over and over again. I’m the big brother who needs to take care of the asshole who broke into our home.

After a moment I forced myself to stand up and quickly picked up the knife while the man continued his beating on my brother.

Kill or be killed. Dad would rather me do my best to protect Renji than to just sit around in hopes that everything will be okay.

This knife is the key to saving him from all this suffering.

I dashed towards the man and reeled my arm back before plunging the knife into the center of his spine. Pierce!!!
