Hurt Me Like You Mean It [BL]-Chapter 41: Such insolence from a student is quite shocking
Lacey’s eyes narrowed immediately.
What the fuck did she mean? I thought I told you to stay away from the Dixons.
Her jaw tightened, fists clenching at her sides as the irritation boiled up again.
She sneered, voice low but cutting, "You and your daughter have ears but can’t hear. Otherwise, she would’ve stayed out of my business, and you would’ve kept my mother’s name out of your mouth."
The words hit like a whip. Tiffany’s mother froze mid-step, clearly not expecting Lacey to fire back with such venom.
Ashley’s hand tightened on Lacey’s arm, sensing the storm brewing but knowing she couldn’t stop her.
"You little brat!" Madison’s mother barked, but Lacey didn’t flinch. She was already fed up with their patronizing tones and the implication that she was somehow wrong to defend herself.
"I don’t care how old you are or how many court cases you’ve been involved in," Lacey snapped, her voice rising, "my life is none of your business. Stay out of it!"
Tiffany flinched, her jaw tightening as Lacey’s words pierced the false sense of superiority she and her mother always tried to carry.
Madison’s mother opened her mouth, probably to retort, but Lacey cut her off sharply.
"Really, do you enjoy thinking you can step into someone else’s life and make them feel small?" Lacey’s glare was unwavering, her sharp tongue matching the fire in her eyes. "Because newsflash: it doesn’t scare me. You hear me? I’m not scared of you, your daughter, or your threats."
Ashley let out a small, impressed whistle under her breath, keeping her hand subtly pressed against Lacey’s shoulder.
Even she had to admit, Lacey’s temper and quick wit were formidable, especially when someone tried to cross a line as deeply personal as her parents’ divorce.
Madison’s mother finally took a step back, lips pursed. Tiffany’s shoulders stiffened beside her, eyes darting nervously between Lacey and her mother.
The tension in the room was palpable, and even the air seemed to hum with the heat of confrontation.
Ms. Carmichael cleared her throat, sharp enough to cut through the tension like a knife. "That’s enough.." she said firmly.
"We are not here to escalate things further. Everyone remain seated while we wait for Lacey’s guardian.."
Madison’s mother’s eyes narrowed as she looked at Ms. Carmichael, her voice tight with displeasure. "I must say, Ms. Carmichael, I find it absolutely unacceptable the way Lacey spoke to us. Such insolence from a student...it’s shocking."
Tiffany’s mother nodded sharply, her jaw set, adding, "Yes, she’s completely out of line. I’ve raised Tiffany to respect her elders, and yet here we are, being spoken to as though we were children." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Lacey snorted softly, unable to hide her contempt, and muttered under her breath, "As if they deserve respect after talking about my parents like that."
Ashley pressed a hand to her arm again, gently shaking her head. "Ignore them, Lacey... just let it slide for now.." she whispered, but Lacey’s eyes didn’t leave the two mothers, fire still burning in their depths.
Ms. Carmichael pinched the bridge of her nose briefly, sighing. "I understand your concerns.." she said evenly, her tone professional but firm.
"However, it’s important to consider the circumstances. Lacey was provoked. Though it does not excuse her actions entirely, but it does explain the intensity of her response. We are all here to resolve this, not escalate it further."
Madison’s mother scoffed, shifting in her seat. "That explains nothing. A child should learn to control herself, no matter the circumstances. This sort of behavior is completely inappropriate and quite frankly...disrespectful."
Tiffany’s mother crossed her arms, leaning back slightly, her glare softening just enough to show annoyance rather than fear. "I expected better from the Dixons’ daughter. But clearly, some lessons are harder to teach than others."
Lacey’s fists clenched tighter, but she stayed seated, refusing to give them the satisfaction of a reaction.
Her jaw was tight, eyes flashing, but she understood Ms. Carmichael was still in control of the situation.
Ashley, sensing the rising tension, whispered again, "Breathe, Lacey... we’re almost done. Just a little longer."
Ms. Carmichael’s gaze swept over the room, firm and steady. "Now, I will speak to each guardian individually. Madison and Tiffany, you will remain seated while I handle Lacey’s guardianship issues. Lacey, your brother will be here shortly, correct?"
Lacey gave a curt nod. "Yes."
"Good.." Ms. Carmichael said. "I expect cooperation from all parties. And while I understand the frustration and anger involved, any further displays of hostility will only complicate matters."
About twenty minutes later, the door to the disciplinary office opened quietly, and Lance stepped inside, scanning the room immediately.
His eyes were sharp, instantly seeking out Lacey among the tense faces and uneasy chatter.
"Lace.." he said, his voice low but firm, cutting through the lingering tension. "Are you okay?"
Lacey looked up at him, relief flickering briefly across her features, but before she could respond, Ms. Carmichael cleared her throat, stepping slightly forward.
"Mr. Dixon.." she said, her tone calm but authoritative, "thank you for coming promptly. I will be speaking with you regarding today’s incident before addressing Lacey directly. I hope that’s alright."
Lance’s jaw tightened, a flash of impatience in his gaze, but he inclined his head slightly. "Of course.." he replied, his eyes still flicking toward his sister, silently asking if she was alright.
Lacey, for her part, shifted slightly in her seat, still bristling but trying to settle the knot of anger and embarrassment in her chest.
Ashley gave her a subtle squeeze of reassurance, whispering, "He’s here now, Lace. Everything’s going to be okay."
Ms. Carmichael gestured toward the chair beside her desk. "Please, Mr. Dixon, have a seat. I need to go over the nature of the incident, the actions of the students involved, and the steps we are taking to ensure this doesn’t happen again."
Lance moved smoothly to the chair, keeping his posture straight and alert.
His eyes never left Lacey for long, flicking to her occasionally as if to reassure her without words.
"First.." Ms. Carmichael began, glancing at Madison and Tiffany, "let me make it clear that while provocation does occur, we cannot condone physical retaliation. Lacey acted out of anger, but the other students..Madison and Tiffany..were deliberately insensitive, attempting to exploit deeply personal matters for amusement. Their punishment reflects the severity of their actions."
Lance’s hands tightened slightly in his lap, but he remained silent, letting Ms. Carmichael continue.
"The situation is delicate.." she added, "and I hope that with parental involvement, appropriate consequences, and reflection from all parties, we can move forward constructively. Mr. Dixon, I would like to know your perspective before we conclude."
