Chapter 29: 29, The Brightest Star in the Night Sky_1
When it came time to have their tickets checked to enter the stadium, they encountered difficulty; the crowd was so dense that they couldn’t even squeeze their way to the ticket checkpoint. This was the bizarre phenomenon of concerts—sometimes, people who didn’t even have tickets liked to come and join the fun, blocking the entrance in the hopes of finding a chance to slip inside.
Then there were some students who were simply there to support their idols, and even though they couldn’t afford tickets, they too wanted to join in the excitement.
Ren He took the lead, forging a path for Yang Xi and the others through the crowd, which surprisingly parted easily for him. As they got to the ticket checkpoint, they saw the deputy class monitor, Liu Yinghai, who had somehow already managed to get two girls into police uniforms ready to enter through the checkpoint. Ren He was all too familiar with this scenario—typically if a family member worked at the public security bureau, donning a police uniform often meant easy entry into something like a concert.
After all, the public security bureau was always responsible for the security work at these kinds of concerts.
However, to Ren He, Liu Yinghai was almost a stranger, and he had no time for pleasantries. But Liu Yinghai spotted them, seemingly surprised that they were also there, and he asked, “Xiaolou, I thought you weren’t coming?”
It seemed that he had invited Duan Xiaolou before, but she had declined. Duan Xiaolou replied with a smile, “It just so happened that Yang Xi had an extra ticket, so I came.”
Liu Yinghai shot a glance at Ren He and Xu Nuo, which Ren He found rather baffling. What are you trying to imply with that look? He ignored Liu Yinghai and led Xu Nuo inside.
Liu Yinghai seemed a bit annoyed. For some reason, lately, Duan Xiaolou was always hanging out with Ren He and Xu Nuo, the stragglers. She had stopped attending class gatherings, and the last time they went to White Cloud Mountain, he had embarrassingly made a fool of himself. But he didn’t dare take it out on Duan Xiaolou, so he turned his irritation towards Ren He, “What concert’s for you to watch, scrounging off others’ tickets?”
Oh, this is interesting. You dare say that, probably not knowing how petty Ren He is these days…
Just as Liu Yinghai was about to throw out another barb, the result…
“Ugh!” The food from dinner came spewing out on the spot, coloring the ground with a rainbow spray akin to a fountain!
“That’s disgusting,” Ren He thought the Emetic Water provided by the Divine Punishment System was incredibly effective—it made vomiting quite a spectacle, much like a fountain… He quickly pulled Duan Xiaolou and the others to find seats, noticing several security guards and some internal inspectors from the public security heading in their direction. He figured Liu Yinghai’s police uniform, complete with a badge, was probably borrowed and needed to be returned.
Having used up his three chances with the Emetic Water, Ren He still felt a sense of longing…
Sitting in the front row, Ren He commented to Yang Xi, “I really haven’t sat in the first row at a concert before, thanks to your blessing!”
“If it was anyone else’s concert, I couldn’t have managed to get tickets,” Yang Xi said with a charming smile.
“So, do you want to sing on a stage like this?” Ren He asked.
“Mmm… The stage could be simpler, without all the props and backup dancers. Just singing is good,” Yang Xi pondered before replying.
“Deal, I’ll write you a song,” Ren He said earnestly.
Yang Xi laughed, seemingly recalling their earlier promise, but she responded, “I appreciate the thought, but songwriting is not that simple, you know.”
Ren He said no more; in his pocket was ‘The Brightest Star in the Night Sky’ he had obtained through a task. To be honest, Jiang Siyao’s songs were more popular with girls, so Ren He didn’t have any special feelings for her music. Attending the concert was more about spending more time with Yang Xi than anything else.
When the concert began, grand music filled the air, with Jiang Siyao rising slowly from beneath the stage singing her “Warm Wind,” kicking off the crowd’s cheers!
And the mass sing-along started right from the beginning, an infectiously impressive spectacle. Yang Xi, standing beside Ren He, turned on her phone’s flashlight, held it above her head, and sang out loud. Influenced by her fervor, Ren He began to join in with the rest, chanting, “Better use your nunchucks, hum hum ha…”
He didn’t know the lyrics, and it was almost causing him cringe-worthy embarrassment. Yang Xi seemed to notice that he wasn’t a fan of Jiang Siyao, so she watched him with an amused smile, “What are you muttering over there?” Because Yang Xi was right next to him, even the mass chorus couldn’t drown out his mumblings about nunchucks.
Just then, Ren He’s alarm went off with the sound of the Divine Punishment System: “Task: Climb the family building where the host resides, from the 1st to the 5th floor, barehanded. Deadline one week. Failure will result in obliteration.”
Go to hell, Ren He’s face turned black. How the hell did this bring about the Divine Punishment System? Are you kidding me? Are you out of your mind?
But luckily, it has nothing to do with the academic building. Otherwise, Ren He really wouldn’t know how to explain to the homeroom teacher. He had to at least wait a bit, wait for the person to cool down a bit…
“It’s nothing, it’s nothing,” Ren He suddenly realized a problem, he needed to be more careful when humming songs in the future. If he hummed a song from a parallel world and someone heard it, he could be given a mission by the Divine Punishment System…
Caught totally unprepared!
However, the time limit for this mission was still a week; there was no need to rush for now.
At night, with a sky full of dazzling stars above, a brilliant stage before him, and the girl he liked by his side—within the mass choir boiling with blood, there was no need to worry about where to go tomorrow or what the future held. Just being simply happy in the moment, liking someone, Ren He felt that this was what youth was all about.
He quietly slipped the sheet of paper with the lyrics and music notation into Yang Xi’s hand. Yang Xi became slightly flustered and quickly glanced at Duan Xiaolou and Xu Nuo next to her, only to relax when she saw they were engrossed in the concert.
Ren He thought Yang Xi’s flustered look was quite cute. The concert lights shone on Yang Xi’s delicate face, making the girl as beautiful as if she had stepped out of a story.
The concert was a success. During it, Ren He even spotted the celebrity, Jiang Chen, wearing a mask and sitting in the middle of the third row towards the back. He found it quite interesting—was this the rhythm of lingering feelings and lovesick torment?
However, if Ren He could notice it, how could others not? Besides, who the hell wears a mask at a concert? Wearing a mask was a bit too conspicuous.
Get ready to hit tomorrow’s headlines, buddy…
After the concert ended, as Ren He and his friends were about to leave, they saw Yang Xi taking out a prepared plastic bag, collecting all the snack wrappers they had eaten into it. Ren He felt amused and helped her clean up the snack trash.
For some reason, he just felt that this girl was very special.
When he got home that night, Ren He suddenly received a call from Yang Xi: “Hello, Ren He?”
The source of this c𝓸ntent is frёeweɓηovel.coɱ.
“Yeah, what’s up?” Ren He could sense the uncontrollable excitement in Yang Xi’s voice, and he knew why.
“Did you write that song? I can’t find it online, and I’ve never heard it before. It’s really… very beautiful!” Yang Xi said, her voice tinged with excitement. The playful promise made on the rooftop had actually not been taken seriously by her, or Xu Nuo, or Duan Xiaolou. She was well aware of how difficult it was to write lyrics and compose music, and she would never sing mediocre songs. She really wanted to write stunning songs herself, but she hadn’t had the ability yet.
But the song Ren He gave her today… was stunning!
Just like the name of the song, its emergence was like the brightest star in the sky tonight, suddenly appearing before Yang Xi!
She strummed the guitar trying to perform the song, and when she sang the first line, the deep shiver in her soul made her goosebumps rise!
“The Brightest Star in the Night Sky, can you hear clearly,
the loneliness and sighs at the bottom of the heart of the person looking up?”
Ren He didn’t admit that he was the one who wrote the song—it was a bit difficult to acknowledge that—so he just said, “The copyright of this song belongs entirely to you now, consider it a thank-you gift for inviting us to the concert.”
“I thought it was…” Yang Xi hesitated.
Ren He laughed his heart out internally. At that moment, secretly and silently giving someone a piece of paper, it was obviously meant to be a love letter, but to open it up to find such a huge surprise. And yet wasn’t this another form of a love letter, with all his feelings embedded in the song?
