I Am Genie-Chapter 36: The Meat’s Burnt
The once fresh and shimmering red dragon fillets were now covered in a layer of black char on the outside. In Michael’s eyes, this was no different from a total trampling of the ingredients. A complete insult to cuisine.
’What the hell is this guy trying to do anyway? It was so fragrant just a moment ago, and now it’s burnt to a crisp. Even though this is just a world of consciousness, it’s still a goddamn waste.’
If he truly had full control over this world, he’d seriously turn into a giant and beat the Cook God up for this wastefulness.
Cook God paid no attention to Michael, his gaze entirely focused on the pieces of meat. He adjusted the temperature and the range of the flame, letting the black char envelop all the pieces.
Michael’s expression grew darker by the second. Can this thing really be eaten? I think it’s about to turn into charcoal.
A glint flashed in Cook God’s eyes, and he stopped breathing out fire. Then he flicked his finger, slicing off a piece of meat as big as a house, and proceeded to char-grill the still-red parts until they were black. With a wave of his hand, the piece of meat flew straight toward Michael.
"F*ck!"
Michael cursed under his breath, throwing his hands out in front to catch the giant slab of meat. In his mind, he desperately adjusted his thoughts to ’He could do this’.
The piece of meat, in some miraculous way, was caught by him without shattering. It was like some invisible glue had stuck it to the space, making it impossible to move.
"Huh, this works too?"
Michael scratched the back of his head, puzzled, but didn’t dwell on it further. At such a close distance, he could smell the burnt scent much more clearly. Touching the charred layer, he discovered it was incredibly thick.
"Are you kidding me? What am I supposed to eat? Charcoal?"
The corner of his mouth twitched, as he fought back the urge to curse the guy out loud. In this space, he wasn’t invincible, and moreover, he still needed to receive the other’s inheritance, so he couldn’t start trouble.
Cook God opened his large mouth with its sharp, jagged teeth and took a big, forceful bite. Chewing the meat noisily, his face looked as happy as if he were about to ascend to heaven.
"This dish is called three hundred sixty-degree roasted dark dragon fillet. This is the peerless masterpiece of dragon meat, unmatched for ten thousand years."
He tilted his face toward the sky, introducing it arrogantly. The confidence in his words was limitless, making even Michael’s facial muscles twitch because of him.
"You think I can eat this thing?"
Michael now felt a little jealous of Leo. His comrade got to enjoy dragon meat, while he was being treated to a black ’lump of charcoal’.
Cook God glanced at Michael, seeing that his body was too small compared to the piece of meat. Like this, he wouldn’t be able to fully savor his masterpiece.
"Imagine your head is a bit bigger, as if your mouth will be large enough to take a whole bite. After all, the food I cook isn’t for tiny-sized existences like humans to eat. Don’t worry, I guarantee you’ll remember it forever."
He tossed over a "Trust me" look that made Michael gain a little more trust in the burnt thing in front of him.
Thinking it over, it was just as Cook God said, if Michael’s head was big enough, this charred layer wouldn’t be considered too thick. Shrinking it down to human-sized food would probably only be equivalent to a piece of meat lightly seared over a flame, slightly charred.
"I’ll trust you this time."
He had no other choice, the temptation of dragon meat was really too great. That smell from earlier made him unbearably curious about its taste.
Michael muttered to himself in his head, believing that his head was actually very large. His head then gradually grew larger, big enough to be the size of a house. His appearance now looked a bit strange, from a distance, aside from his head, you couldn’t see his lower body at all.
Although Michael felt a bit weird, it wasn’t a big problem because he was in a state of floating in the air. The weight of his head basically couldn’t bear down on those two small legs. Moreover, the concept of weight in this world of consciousness was quite vague, so as long as you believed you could do it, you could do it.
He opened his mouth wide and took a really big bite, a bitter, burnt taste spreading throughout his mouth from the very first touch. Just as he was about to spit it out, he stopped because a soft, fragrant sensation suddenly appeared, opposing that bitter taste.
The two flavors clashed for only a moment before the bitter taste quickly fell behind. The delicious flavor, the aroma, the soft texture from each fiber of the meat, along with its dissolution transforming into pure energy, completely took over his mouth.
Michael had a feeling of having just set foot in hell but immediately returning to heaven. This feeling was like a distinctive art of contrast, ambushing his taste buds before they could react. Going from delicious to more delicious doesn’t evoke much emotion, but going from terribly bad to suddenly delicious is a completely different experience.
Cook God looked at Michael’s expression and the corner of his mouth immediately curved up, full of arrogance. His cooking ability might not be diverse, but he dared to claim that on the continent, no dish was more delicious than this one.
"Hahaha, I wasn’t wrong, was I? This is the pinnacle of culinary art."
His laugh carried the arrogance of someone standing at the peak, unmatched from ancient times to the present. Of course, there might be people who could imitate him, but if he just killed the opponent, wouldn’t he still be number one? Not to mention cooking, he was still a top-tier combat force on the continent.
"I’m not denying that it’s very delicious, but what the hell are you being arrogant about? The core of this dish is the dragon meat. If you replaced it with another type of meat, you’d simply be ruining the food."
Even though Michael found it incredibly tasty, his mind wasn’t to the point of being muddled. With just one bite, he knew what the most important element was. It wasn’t Cook God’s flashy performance, nor some secret recipe, but utilizing the inherent properties of the dragon meat.
