I Am In Marvel-Chapter 25: Beginning of the Raid (1)
The bright red sun set on the horizon as it disappeared behind the clouds and the night fell as predicted.
After the night set in, the German troops at the frontlines of the battlezone withdrew safely, just like the past few days. On the contrary, the U.S military’s temporary combat camp was quite lively.
Hundreds of young persevering American soldiers were ready to fight, dressed in combat uniforms and armed with American rifles. They stood rigidly in the standard military posture, carrying heavy green military rucksacks filled with ammunition and supplies.
The locations of the five German encampments which were to be raided were different, so the assembly time for the five troops assigned to the raids also differed. Otherwise, the gathering of a dozen hundreds of soldiers at the same time would crowd the makeshift camp.
Fury gathered a hundred men he was in charge of beforehand and carefully explained the details of the raid to them.
“I know some of you are amateurs who have just been transferred from the training base, so perk your ears up and keep the warnings in your mind. Don’t drag me down tonight!”
“On the battlefield, I will not punish anyone who cowers or disobeys my order according to the directives of the military court. I will simply put a hole in your head!”
Fury, who usually taught the soldiers how to stand on their own feet on the frontlines completely changed his temperament from that of a warm teacher. Now, his dark features sported a mysterious expression and his right eye gleamed ferociously like a wolf’s.
The soldiers were as quiet as cicadas in late autumn. However, a youth in the rear end of the lineup looked around for someone while maintaining the standard posture.
“George! This is not the training base. Don’t desert your post.” Another recruit on the side noticed this scene and muttered a warning under his breath.
“I know,” George responded in a low voice. “Have you seen Kyle? He was sent to the frontlines a few days ago. There’s a good chance he’s in this temporary camp.”
The recruit muttered, “Kyle? He probably died in action a long time ago. No matter how superior his abilities are, the training camp is nothing in front of this battlefield.”
“I wish he’d struggled to live and watched——The battlefield is where my true talent lies.” George clenched his fist in frustration. His physical fitness and talent were ranked first among all the recruits, but Kyle bested him in the end.
“Who’s that?”
Fury’s loud voice rang out abruptly and startled George. He hurriedly looked forward, only to discover that the Sergeant was not talking about him.
“It’s me.”
From an area shrouded in the darkness of the night and outside the area lit by the lamps in the gathering place, the figure of a well-built man walked towards the army.
When the handsome face of the young man was finally revealed under the silhouette light of the lamp, many of the recruits in the hundred-man troop cried out in alarm. Some of them even found it difficult to hold their military posture.
“K-Kyle?”
George’s eyes widened in disbelief. However, with his strong sense of ego, how could he have ever forgotten the face of the man who appeared in front of everyone at this moment?
In just a short week, he made all the professional training instructors gasp in admiration at his abilities, broke the records of all the individual combat events in the training base and even set new high scores for shooting targets—pistols, rifles, sniper guns and bazooka.
Even though Kyle was sent to the frontlines before everybody else, there were still rumors of his achievements spreading throughout the training base. They were exaggerated until they evolved into legends.
Even the temperamental trainers often used Kyle’s actions as an example to rebuke the new recruits.
“Silence!” Fury raised his voice. As his sharp one-eyed gaze swept over them, the noise slowly died down.
Instead of carrying the standard backpack, Kyle merely carried a rifle on the shoulder. Along with a Nepalese army knife strapped around his waist in a cattle hide sheath and two pistols placed on both sides of his legs, Kyle was the most lightly packed man in the army.
He directly walked to Fury’s side and coldly faced the soldiers in the crowd.
