Chapter 30 - Scroll's Content
The next two days passed with a blur.
Jules holed himself indoors as he prepared for the days to come.
Aside from when he and Ryan met to confirm how Ryan's exam went, he didn't step out.
His one and only client, Finn, didn't seek out Veil either, and Jules believed the short protagonist wouldn't do so for a while.
The information regarding Finn's whereabouts before he reached the Promethean City finally arrived, and Jules had gone through it.
The information showed that Finn hadn't come in contact with any beast core before meeting Jules, making him more inclined to believe Finn lacked a guardian angel.
Still, the report noted that Finn had broken through to the Yellow Core Stage, placing him among the top applicants in terms of core stage.
He was progressing well, and for now, Jules saw no reason to assist him from the shadows.
Thursday evening. It was 8:00 p.m., and Jules sat at the table, a shimmering scroll placed on his table.
The scroll had been dormant and blank for a few days, but now it had a subtle glow along with the logo of the institute appearing at the top.
How magical, Jules chuckled as he saw texts appearing.
Soon, there was a long passage written on the now-dormant scroll.
The scroll read:
* * * * *

Reading this, Jules's eyes twitched.
"No way I'm ranked 201st after all that. I'm probably one of the few that managed to cut the scroll!"
Jules grumbled despite knowing that various things attributed to the starting rank and starting ranks aren't meant to be relied on.
However, he was annoyed because he was one rank away from reaching 200. The rank which assigned one to a dorm without roommates.
While from rank 201 below, one will have a roommate.
"I wonder what rank that Faceless got," Jules muttered.
After that, he sat in silence for a while before he opened his inventory and brought out a black flat plate.
On its edge were magic runes that all linked up to the blue shard fixed at its center.
This was something Jules had brought along from the Clan. It was a communicator; an extremely safe and secure one.
He injected mana into the blue shard, causing the runes to glow slightly, then a translucent orb popped out of the blue shard.
Jules took a deep breath and explained to the orb how he had obtained a new identity, acquired new weapons, gone on a Beyond exploration, and been accepted into the Institute.
After he was done and the orb had shrunk to less than half its original size, a sign of the energy expended during transmission.
It would be sent to its counterpart, which was with Freya. They would receive it shortly and reply to him.
There are restrictions to the device, which is why Jules had not used it for a while. The most he did was inject mana once in a while so he could inform them that he was living.
After doing this, Jules put on a black tunic, brown trousers, and a cloak that left most of his face uncovered.
He made his way to a Pub that was fairly stacked with people and sat at a spot not so far from the center, ordering a drink that he drank slowly.
The pub buzzed with idle chatter and clinking mugs, some people closer to the counter singing a song like a local band.
While he drank, he listened to the songs being sung, vibing to them inwardly.
Jules sat there for about 10 minutes, when he saw Ryan, donning a vest over a shirt and wearing slacks, walk over after a quick chat with a waiter.
The duo had another discreet method of communication, but for situations like this, they could still chat openly; it's been made by Green that both of them had traveled here together.
The source of this c𝐨ntent is freёnovelkiss.com.
"Sorry for keeping you waiting," Ryan said as he sat opposite Jules. "Those fellas are dead set on celebrating their official acceptance so they want to go drinking. I'm being timed as we speak."
"Seems like you're doing a great job," Jules commented with a chuckle.
"Tch. I'm already tired of this! These rich kids are so childish! They rarely even train!
"When I suggest it, they tell me: Oh, Ryan, this period is for us to enjoy without care, we are enrolling at the institute to train so let's leave that for after resumption."
You have all this in mind, yet you still act all buddy-buddy with them. A certain word fitting Ryan crossed Jules's mind as he smiled.
Ryan sighed with disappointment as he sipped on the delivered fruit drink.
"Fortunately, my assigned dorm is without a roommate! I can avoid them easily now!"
Jules, who had been chuckling at Ryan's rant, twitched his eyes.
Before he could ask, Ryan said, "I was assigned Rank 91." With a whisper, he added, "Young master, you seem to have turned pale. What rank were you assigned?"
"It was out of expectations," Jules drank from his cup as he said.
Ryan laughed—not because of Jules's rank, he knew the Young Master's true strength after all, but because he found Jules's reaction funny.
Very few times did Jules break out of character.
Putting his cup down gently, Jules stated calmly. "If you tick me off, I'll come for you during the next Rank Placements. Putting a rich, spoiled child in his place is something I'd like to do."
"..." Ryan was silent for a second before he replied, "I know my place, young master."
"We shouldn't talk for too long. Let's meet again in the Institute. Always stay alert too, your friends might seem unserious and all, but there are others who treat this place as a battlefield."
"I assume you're one of them?" Ryan asked with a smirk.
"Naturally," Jules replied.
Ryan chuckled as he stood up, said his farewell and left.
Jules remained seated as he continued listening to the songs in the background.
