Chapter 334: Chapter 334: Regroup

The skinwalker rushed to Siderius. Ashe quickly got back while putting on another crossbow. Quinlan also extended the distance, leaving the playing field to Siderius only.

Siderius smacked the sword slightly to the side, deflecting its long limb attack. He got right back to his posture and drove the Silver Hawk forward, into the face of the skinwalker.

The face opened up a hole before the sword was even able to touch it, allowing the blade to go through without hitting anything.

Its other hand turned into claws and it thrusted them at Siderius from below.

Siderius drew <Parare> in the air. A green barrier enveloped him and blocked the creature’s claws. Siderius quickly connected it with a <Piryo>. A wave of fire washed over the shadow creature.

Sulfur flame climbed on its body as it stumbled backward, trying to extinguish it.

"I really want my bombs right now." Siderius deactivated <Parare> and rushed at the shadow creature. He kept his balance and his distance and continued to slice at the creature.

Because it was distracted by the flame, it couldn’t avoid Siderius’ attack with the same transformation technique as before. The Silver Hawk cut off cloud of shadow smoke from the creature.

A bolt shot forward and pierced the head of the creature.

Ashe placed the bow on the ground and tried to load another bolt quickly.

"This damn thing is too slow!" Ashe muttered in frustration. If she had had her bow here, she would’ve been able to shoot it multiple times already.

Quinlan stayed a safe distance away. He knew he couldn’t help much and would only hinder them two.

The creature successfully extinguished the flame on tis body. Its shadow body changed again, now looking similar to a wolf.

It lunged at Siderius.

The hunter didn’t back off. He swiped the sword horizontally, slashing at the mouth of the wolf.

The shadow wolf was hurt but it didn’t divert away. Its huge body continued to lung at Siderius.

The hunter activated a <Parare> right after, keeping its teeth outside.

"Esturo!" Siderius used another sigil.

The wolf stumbled on the ground and repeated shook its head.

Another bolt shot at it and pierced into its eye. The wolf howled in pain.

Siderius got closer and drove the sword right at the end of the bolt. It slitted the arrow in two and then continued to go inside the eye socket of the wolf.

The shadow creature seeped under the ground and ran away. When it emerged again, it took the shape of Siderius.

The hunter froze in place and raised an eyebrow.

The Skinwalker looked exactly like him, with the same Silver Hawk as him.

"Don’t interfere, Ashe. Let me show this creature what’s the difference between us." Siderius smirked.

"Yes, Master!" Ashe lowered her crossbow.

The Skinwalker rushed at Siderius. It used the same movement as him. Its power and speed might not be comparable to him, but it copied his technique well.

Siderius answered with the exact movement. Their two swords collided.

The sword of the Skinwalker broke in two, dark smoke leaking out of the blade.

The fake Siderius grunted in pain.

"It may look the same. But it’s not the same." Siderius smirked.

He sliced over the neck of the Skinwalker, more dark smoke reached out from within it.

The hunter kicked it in the belly, forcing it to bend over, giving him a clear view of its neck.

Siderius decapitated the shadow creature. But he didn’t stop there. He continued to dissect it further, cutting it down piece by piece, until a small purple sphere of light fell to the ground.

Siderius pierced the Silver Hawk over the sphere, breaking it into pieces.

The body of the shadow creature broke down into smoke and slowly dissolved into nothingness.

"Still impressive as ever," Quinlan clapped his hands.

"What is that sphere, Master?" Ashe said.

"That is its core, the place where it stores its power. Creatures of Profunda can be tricky to deal with, but as long as you break their energy reserve, it will die just like everything else." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Siderius put the Silver Hawk on his back as it disappeared.

"Where did your sword go?" Quinlan asked.

"It is still there but hidden to a seal on me." Siderius commented.

"You really have all kinds of cards under your sleeves, Siderius. Can I buy one?"

Siderius laughed, "Of course. If the price is right."

The group took a short rest in one of the house, waiting for Bas to show up. Siderius was still in perfect health. Those shadow creatures couldn’t hurt him, they were too weak. He didn’t use that much stamina either as most of the kills were stealthy. The only one that cost him a little bit of stamina was the Skinwalker, but that fight ended quickly as well.

Earlier that night...

At the rope bridge, Bas saw the two messages on the two wooden poles. One he couldn’t understand while the other said, "Run quickly across."

Bas squinted his eyes. He might be a brute but he still has a brain. He was even more cunning than before since he had stopped thinking with his lower half.

Bas didn’t recognize the writings. It wasn’t Quinlan for sure. He also had no intention of listening to a random message either.

Bas walked away from the bridge and found a better place to cross. Soon, he found a narrow cliff where he could jump across. The space between was less than a meter so he had no problem jumping through it.

The cliff was quite far away from the stone bridge. That was why it took him much more time to go to the village.

When he arrived at the village, he noticed one house was having their lights on. He came inside.

"Bas! You’re finally here!" Quinlan said.

Siderius was polishing the Silver Hawk with a cloth. Ashe was adjusting the crossbow so that she could shoot better.

Bas shrugged, "Had to take a few detours. Someone left a message on the wooden pole."

"I left that message. It was supposed to instruct you to tap the skull beneath the pole," Siderius said.

"What pole? All it said was running across." Bas said.

"I saw that too. Master’s message was altered. But his other message wasn’t." Ashe said.

"Your other message?"

Ashe briefly explained to Bas about the Alchemical Patterns.

"I see." He then turned to Quinlan, "How did you get across?"

"There was no bridge for me..."
