Chapter 668: Chapter 668: Chose the Wrong Person (3)

No! Vera Wave denied the possibility once again.

Having lived in the Cooper Family’s house for several days and having interacted considerably with Christopher Cooper and Bailey Hansen, she couldn’t bring herself to believe they were those kinds of people.

So what exactly was Liliana Davis trying to say back then?

This question would probably have to be asked of Kris Cooper.

With this in mind, she frowned and rose from her chair. She picked up her phone from the table and was about to dial Lucille Matthias’s number when someone knocked at her door.

"Come in."

Vera Wave looked up to see Aunt Zhang, the servant, entering with a cake and a glass of milk. Smiling, Aunt Zhang placed the items on the table and said, "The Old Master bought these himself this morning. You really should eat more."

As she was speaking, car lights approached from downstairs and stopped at the entrance. Aunt Zhang peered out the window, then said as she bustled towards the door, "The Master and Madam must be back!"

Vera Wave followed her downstairs and saw a travel-weary Christopher Cooper and Bailey Hansen entering.

Upon seeing Vera Wave, Bailey Hansen immediately went over, put an arm around her shoulders, and said comfortingly, "There’s nothing to worry about; we’re home now, it’s alright!"

Her words nearly brought tears to Vera Wave’s eyes.

There were no accusations, no interrogations, not even a hint of suspicion... Their son was in trouble, yet the first thing they did upon their return was to comfort her.

"Where’s Grandfather?" Christopher Cooper came over and asked softly.

"Upstairs, I... I didn’t tell him," Vera Wave whispered.

"Okay!" Christopher Cooper nodded, patting her on the shoulder. "Don’t worry, I’ll handle this. You go upstairs and rest. Your mother and I will go check on things."

"Don’t worry anymore, go have a good rest!" Bailey Hansen smoothed Vera Wave’s hair. "Your father and I are going over to see what’s happening right now."

Vera Wave nodded slightly. "I’ll go with you!"

"There’s no need," Bailey Hansen said with a comforting smile. "It’s too late. You should get a good rest." Then she hurriedly left with Christopher Cooper.

Vera Wave walked to the French window, watching the receding car, and bit her lip slightly.

It was obvious that the couple had returned first to check on her before going to see their son.

"What happened?" Aunt Zhang asked in a low voice. The couple had returned and left again so hurriedly, without even putting down their luggage; it was highly unusual.

Vera Wave glanced towards the second floor before whispering, "Don’t say any more, Grandfather might hear. There’s nothing wrong. You should get some rest too."

Hearing Vera Wave’s unspoken message, Aunt Zhang didn’t ask any further.

Vera Wave returned upstairs. Her gaze swept over her favorite blueberry mousse and milk on the table. Even though she was hungry and exhausted, she had no appetite at all, and certainly no desire to sleep.

She sat down on the couch, supporting her forehead with her hand, her mind deep in thought.

It was past one in the morning when Bailey Hansen and Christopher Cooper finally returned.

Vera Wave heard them arrive and went downstairs. As soon as Bailey Hansen saw her, she gestured to Vera, took her arm, and led her back upstairs, right to her room. Only then did Bailey speak.

"We’ve visited Kris. He can’t take calls there. He asked me to bring this note to you," Bailey Hansen said, pulling a quarter-folded piece of paper from her pocket and passing it to Vera. "He didn’t do it. We just need to find evidence to prove his innocence, that’s all. Don’t overthink things, and get some rest." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Seeing the worry on Vera’s face, Bailey Hansen guided her to sit on the edge of the bed.
