I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 246: Location found
Chapter 246: Location found
Kennedy smiled, "I understand your frustrations, Captain Sinclair. We would do everything we can to bring Lisa Johnson back, but Captain, we cannot proceed hastily or make rash decisions. Captain, bear in mind that we are dealing with a killer that has nothing to lose."
"And such people are the most dangerous." Ravi said as he looked at the screen. Kennedy looked at him with that irritating, approving expression again.
The rest of the ABI were focused on the high-tech computers they brought with them, not turning to look at them as they walked into the office.
"This is?" The Special Agent asked, this was a very sensitive case so he planned to reduce outside influence as much as possible.
Arlen smiled a bit, "This is Ravi West, Officer Johnson’s partner, and Officer Draco Brown. They are happy to assist in any way we can."
Draco swallowed, his eyes losing the flattering that they normally had whenever he met someone of high rank, "Officer Johnson is one of ours. She is like family, we would not let you do it all on your own. We have to catch this famed sociopath."
"Most cases of antisocial personality disorder lack self-control, remorse, and shame and they are prone to anger. Everything about this case was impulsive, committed by someone with high intelligence." Kennedy tucked his hair but his eyes remained bright, excited even, "I am thinking more of the Dark Triad, Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. They normally show a lack of empathy, extremely manipulative behavior, and self-centeredness. They give off the expression that they are kind, and sociable but inside they are extremely twisted and cruel. Of course, I might just be overreaching."
Kennedy stood up from where he was sitting and stood in front of the board, "He escalated dramatically when he came to Davenport. His father received the death penalty correctly and when the Nest opened in Harlem, barely any prisoner of the cult survived. I imagine how frustrating that would be for him. He must have wished to round them all up and display his strength in front of them."
Ravi took a deep breath and tried to block what Kennedy was saying so he could concentrate on the board. Something about how positioning himself as a spectator rather than a participant in his victim’s suffering, he might be reenacting his childhood experiences, where he was powerless, and about trying to reclaim control over a situation, where he felt utterly helpless. Each murder was some form of twisted catharsis for Nathan.
Those were just long and complicated words. The why was not important, the man murdered so many people because he could. He disregarded their lives and considered himself superior to them. It might be better if he could find someone to squash his soul because the judgment he would receive in the Netherworld would be enough for him to wish that he had just gone to the therapist or the psychiatrist’s ward.
"You said you believe that the true audience he is craving is the members of his cult, right?" Arlen rubbed his chin and turned to stare at Kennedy, the little peacock who was a little shocked to be interrupted in his speech.
"Yes. Punishments in the cold were done publicly so these murders could be a way for him to externalize his internal pain and draw parallels to his own childhood, forcing bystanders to witness this gruesome violence and more importantly, for the victims to feel it. That despair and hopelessness that no one would save them. In the middle of all these people, they were alone."
Arlen just stared at Kennedy and Ravi could see what he was saying clearly in the depths of those blue orbs. ’A simple yes would do.’
Arlen turned to face the leader of the team who had an alright apology in his eyes when he nodded at Arlen. ’
"The properties of the Sanctuary of the Chosen?" He turned to one of the AIB officers typing away on his keyboard, "Pull up the list of the seized properties."
"I thought of that too but we did a thermal sweep, there is no living soul in those properties. Kim is smart; he knows that that would be the first place we would check for him."
Arlen frowned.
"He might be smart but he is still compulsive." Ravi recalled what Malik had said, "He wants them to watch, doesn’t he? At least watch the torture if they can’t watch the death." There are villains like that, it was not smart or sharp or know better. It is just that they had to do that thing which would lead them to being caught and killed.
Arlen nodded instantly, "All the members of the cults, aside from those who gave up their properties, can we get a list of privately owned properties and homes?"
Gilson nodded and the technician went to work. The map on Davenport soon had red dots and arrows across it on the screen.
"230 properties."
"Exclude flats and shared buildings." Kennedy said and then turned to face them, "It would spoil the ambiance for him."
"It would also be difficult for him to control the situation. How many buildings are remaining?" The Special Agent asked a frown on his face as he looked at the still many red dots on the screen.
"30 properties. I don’t even have a house yet." The technician grumbled the last part of the sentence under his breath.
"30 is still too many." Arlen said.
"Agent Kennedy?"
Kennedy smiled with an expression that showed he had been waiting to show off, "There is this thing called geographical profiling. It is basically..."
"We know what it is, Agent." Arlen’s voice had an edge this time.
Kennedy sighed and went to the board, with a red marker, he circled and wrote down labels on the map, home, girlfriend’s home, scouting area, hospital, and dumping site. After ten minutes he circled two properties on the map, "The killer is in one of these two ranches."
Arlen picked up the gun on the table.
"Captain Sinclair, you should wait for us to do a thermal screening of the two properties."
"And how long would it take?"
"About an hour, If you jump into this rescuer operation carelessly, it would be dangerous. Besides, we are taking the lead in this case."
"Special Agent, we don’t have time. The two owners of the ranch, which had a higher hierarchy in the cult."
"Then it is Liam Morales, he was a family annihilator in the inner circle."
Arlen turned to the rest of his team, "Suit up!" He then looked calmly at the special agent, "We would be going with you or we would go without you."
