I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 302: Making Dinner Part 1
Ravi probably can’t live without the noise again. He has gotten so used to it. The warmth of voices layering over each other.
"They are trying to kill me."
"I think we have a fruit thief."
"They are not trying to kill you. Even workshop have compulsory readings as well, Sage. Ash, it is probably some birds, no thief is coming into Harlem just to steal some blue berries." Ravi replied to the two teenagers in the house as he focused on the large basin of shrimps that Sage had brought back home after teleporting Malik to Anouk.
Ravi had not provided the particular information that Sage does not need to act as Malik’s personal courier as the pseudo immortal can will himself anywhere in this small mortal realm.
"They could be kleptomaniacs." Ash supplied.
"Malik had been home all day, Ash. Just research some pest control methods to keep the birds away and No, It would not be a good idea to transform into a tiger and lay by your potted plants, no matter what Sage tells you. You have school tomorrow."
Sage closed his mouth and rolled his eyes.
One. Two. Seven. Ravi wondered how many seconds would pass before...
"How about a..."
"Not a bird either. Sage, you have to submit that homework tomorrow."
Without looking, he could tell how pursed the teenager’s lips were. His Auto mechanics workshop had given them a paper to write and Safe had been spinning conspiracies since he got back.
Not that he was so shocked, for over six months, he had never seen Sage with a single book and Malik had once regaled him with the story of how Sage had tried to fake a dyslexic condition the first week that Malik had enrolled him in junior high.
"They might be planning to chase us off so they can share and dine on our tuition."
Ravi smiled, "Sorry to tell you this Sage but your tuition can not feed a family of five for one month. It is definitely not worth risking jail for."
Sage eyes narrowed in the way they did whenever he was deciding something before relaxing. He poked Asher’s laptop and Ravi wondered whether he should get him one of his own.
He shook his head, Sage would either disassemble it or use it for games. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"You would be surprised what people would risk going to jail." Sage offered offhandedly before he went back to stare at the empty word sheet in front of him.
It was times like this that Ravi remembered how unusual Sage’s childhood was. Remembering that before Anouk had taken down Malik’s organization, they had been mercenaries, taking all kinds of cases for money.
The youth who was glaring at the laptop was ranked the No 18 most wanted villain in Avalon with a reward money of 500,000 dollars.
He should probably do something about that list. Maybe create a dummy body for Sage and leave the corpse for the Hero Association. Although with the week that had just happened, Ravi doubted that the hero association would be concerned with their Most Wanted List for now.
"If you finish before tomorrow, I will fulfill your request."
The slouching Sage sat upright immediately, "Any request? Any at all?"
Ravi was working on the basin full of shrimps. Taking a pair of kitchen shears, he quickly snipped off the shrimp heads. He raised an eyebrow at Sage’s excitement and his lips twitched, "I am not going to kill anyone and It would not harm anyone I like but sure any request."
Sage’s smile was so large, he hurriedly grabbed the laptop and slid off the stool, "I am going to the library. Ash, call me when the food is ready." A portal opened in the kitchen and the teacher all but leapt into it.
"It is Asher." Ash shouted back from the back of the house.
The kitchen was quiet again and Ravi started on the intestines of the shrimp. When he was done, he began to make the shrimp filling. He first chopped the shrimp into small pieces, using two knives to mince the shrimp properly. He then added sesame oil, soy sauce, sugar, ginger, cornstarch and white pepper and mixed properly.
Breaking an egg, he separated the yolk from the egg white and added the egg white. When he was done, Ravi put the filling in the refrigerator and started on the dough.
"Are you not afraid of what he is going to ask you to do?" Ash asked as he carefully cut the fruits from the tree and dropped them into the basket.
Ravi turned the question back on his ward, "Are you worried?"
Asher shook his head but recalling that Ravi could not see him, he verbally expressed his thought, "No, it is Sage, he is going to ask you to take him to see an elf or something like that."
Ravi laughed. That sounded like Sage.
Ravi took the dough that had been resting and pressed it against the board. He then shaped it into a long strip like he was about to make hand pulled noodles from cutting the strips into small rounds.
Sprinkling some dry flour on top of the small lumps of dough, he rubbed each one for a few seconds, letting the dry flour coat them individually.
First of all, he had tried to make the dumplings, but Ravi had made so many mistakes. Too much fillings, lumpy dough. It had been terrible but he had still carried that plate of disaster to have wine on the roof.
In the end, the wine bottle was empty and the plate of dumplings was barely touched. It had not been so long ago and yet why did the memory seem like an eternity away.
He reached out with his right hand and grabbed a rolling pin. Holding the edge of the flattened lump between his fingers, he kept on rotating the lump while running the pin over it. In less than a minute, there was a light, smooth, round piece of dough.
"And what about you? Do you want me to promise you a wish too? Any request?
There was no hesitation when Asher replied, "No. All my wishes have already come true."
