Chapter 306: The lockscreen

Arlen worked with the EAC for two more weeks before wrapping everything up in the capital and returning to Davenport.

Ravi had to roll his eyes at the big welcome party that the station had thrown for Arlen. Even the rookies who had never met Arlen but had been brainwashed by daily stories by Draco stared at him with something akin to worship in their eyes. Even the police chief came downstairs to join in the celebration.

But even as he rolled his eyes, his heart was filled with a kind of sweetness. Seeing how much Arlen was respected and loved made him happy.

And there was the addition of having your boyfriend be the captain of your team.

It was perfect. What could go wrong?

"Officer West. You are late. Please see me in my office."

Ravi gritted his teeth. The person who made him late was smirking as he displayed the appearance of a good, righteous leader.

"Please sit, Officer West."

Arlen settled down, pulling some documents in front of him and innocently gesturing to the seat in front of him.

"So can you tell me in detail why you were late this morning?"

The slight ache on his buttocks was a pleasurable reminder, and Ravi rolled his eyes. "I could draw it out for you if you like."

Arlen’s eyes were filled with mischief, and he leaned in. "I..."

The sudden knock on the door made him lean back immediately, assuming a straight-back posture. "Come in."

A red-haired young man poked his head in. "Captain, Officer Brown has brought in Mr. Mike Tromp. He is in the interrogation room."

Arlen stood up. "We will continue this conversation later." His voice was a little hoarse.

The young officer looked at both of them, his curiosity showing.

Ravi let out a small chuckle, "Yes, Captain." For all his teasing, they never really did anything in the office.

Not had they done anything at home that night.

Criminals do not care if the world has just suffered a crisis, nor do they take vacation.

Mr. Mike Tromp was one such criminal. His rap sheet was over two pages long, and without a confession, they had to scramble around to gather evidence for his robbery with a deadly weapon.

It had been a hectic day. Arlen, who was usually the first to wake up in the morning, was still sleeping when Ravi woke up.

Ravi tried to move Arlen into a more uncomfortable position when he unconsciously furrowed his brows. Not wanting to disturb him, Ravi withdrew his hand.

He sat on the bed, watching Arlen sleep. His body gently rose and fell, and his breathing became slow and steady.

He was truly the most beautiful person that Ravi had ever seen. And every day, he was even more pleasing to his soul. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

A thought tried to creep into his mind. How many more years would he have with him? And in the next life, Arlen would be different. A different person, maybe a different creature.

"You are all I need." Those words played in his head. They banished the thoughts from his mind, and he smiled.

It truly did not matter because Ravi was sure that Arlen would always like him.

He blinked. Was that...

Arlen’s phone was tucked in his pocket, half propped up against the bed. Ravi reached out carefully and slid it from under him.

The phone screen quietly lit up, revealing the lock screen wallpaper.

It was the wallpaper Ravi was familiar with. The movie poster is for the last season of Blue.

This was blurrier, yet it made Ravi freeze in place.

He glanced at Arlen, unable to resist bringing the phone closer to his face.

The protagonist of the photo was himself.

In the dim light, he was tipping a bottle into a glass. The table was littered with cracked chestnuts.

Ravi didn’t know when Arlen had snapped the photo, and it took him a few moments to recall the day.

The day Arlen had come over for a barbecue with his neighbors. Everyone had gone, and the two of them had roasted chestnuts, drank wine, and played twenty questions.

The photograph scene could not be more ordinary. It was night, and the only light was low; the harsh electric light had been reduced to create a softer atmosphere.

In the hazy light, Ravi was the sole focus.

Why, we never knew that he could look so gentle and serene. As the softened light washed over him, even the tiny shadow cast by his eyelashes carried a quiet comfort.

Ravi never knew this photo existed, nor did he know that that night as he had observed Allen from the corner of his eyes, Arlen had silently observed him from this angle.

Perhaps the photographer himself was also unaware, but from an outsider’s perspective, it was easy to discern the tenderness hidden within the photo.

Ravi placed the phone on the bedside table and moved closer to Arlen. He gazed down at him.

Arlen.

He silently said his name.

His fingers trembled, but he did not want to wake Arlen up. Ravi felt like he could watch him forever.

Arlen woke up to the sight of a very soft smile on Ravi’s face, so soft that it was like two rays if the morning sunlight was shining through.

So beautiful.

"Don’t tell me you have been watching me all night. I would call the police."

As if jolted awake, Ravi came back to his senses. He laughed.

"Good morning, love." Arlen rubbed his eyes. "Come here," he said before reaching to pull Ravi into his embrace, locking his hands around his lower back.

Ravi smiled, "Good morning to you too. I woke up before you."

"Shocked. I think we should frame it." Arlen teased.

Ravi rolled his eyes. "I don’t wake up that late."

"Yesterday, Ash had to turn into a snake for you to wake up."

"Shut up."

Then he brushed his lips against Arlen’s and sank into the connection that threatened to engulf him every time.

Arlen’s lips were soft and warm, his hands caressing Ravi’s back as he deepened the kiss.

A sinful shudder rolled down Ravi’s back as he let the sensation glide through him. When he pulled away and looked at his lover, the sheer want in those eyes made him swallow.

"This might be the only way I would accept being woken up from now on."

Ravi laughed and leaned in to bite Arlen’s lower lip. "Is that so?" He gave a soft peck on his lips. "Deal."
