Chapter 61 - Lord Lucas

The system blinked to life before Lucas. A new interface unfolded in front of him:

[Mode: Building the Main Base]

[Upcoming Tasks:]

-Create an exploration network.

-Identify power sources.

-Assign the first system assistant.

-Build a summoning and reception dock.

Lucas tapped his fingers against the cold metal desk as he reviewed the tasks. The hum of activity outside the command hall was a constant reminder of how far they’d come, how much remained to be done. Darleen was already overseeing the construction of the watchtower. Andre, as usual, was lounging against a stone column, but his glowing eyes betrayed his laziness he was using his spiritual ability to detect underground minerals. They had to know where their resources were hidden if they were to build this base properly.

Lucas’s eyes flickered to the dynamic map projected in the air before him. Shaded areas, shifting, pulsing with danger, blinked across the map.

Boom!

The ground trembled beneath his feet.

It wasn’t a tremor caused by their construction. It wasn’t the wind or the force of Andre’s abilities either. No, this was something else. Something far more massive.

Darleen’s voice cut through the tension. "A ship? That size?"

Lucas snapped his head toward the horizon, his pulse quickening. From the distant skies, a massive craft appeared. It was grand, powerful, and unmistakably regal. The ship was adorned with the royal flags of Planet Tian, the fabric rippling in the wind like a banner of dominance. The ship’s descent was slow, deliberate each movement resonating with an aura of strength that seemed to push the surrounding atmosphere back.

"Impossible..." Lucas murmured to himself.

As the ship touched down, the massive engines humming to a quiet stop, a ramp extended slowly. Out of the shadows, a figure emerged a man in his mid-years. His armor gleamed in the sunlight, intricately engraved with the insignia of the Lord of Tian. . The man lowered his head in a deep, respectful bow, his posture one of total deference.

"Lord Lucas," the man’s voice was deep, resonant, carrying the weight of authority. "I am a messenger from Lord Tian. He has sent me to deliver a trust to you."

Lucas’s brow furrowed as he rose from his seat, his mind struggling to catch up with the unexpected arrival. "A trust?" He couldn’t hide the disbelief in his voice. "What does he mean by that?"

The messenger gestured toward the ship behind him. "If you will, my lord." His hand swept across the massive craft, and Lucas followed the movement with narrowed eyes.

From the ship’s belly, a stream of people began to emerge. Men, women, children. They all had the same simple, yet strong clothing. And their eyes those eyes were filled with hope. Not the hope of people who’d been promised something; the hope of people who had been waiting for something.

Lucas blinked, unable to process the sheer number of people. Hundreds maybe more filed out, their faces etched with both fear and anticipation. They paused as they reached the ground, their gazes lifting to him with a reverence that felt strange, almost suffocating.

"These..." Lucas’s voice faltered, then steadied. "These are your people now. Lord Tian has chosen you to lead them, to build a new civilization here on Planet Lira."

His breath caught in his throat. A chill ran through him. "People...? But..."

The messenger smiled gentle, but with the weight of experience. "No one expected that Planet Tian would be the first to thrive because of you... But Lord Tian believes in your potential.. You are the Lord of Lira now."

His eyes darted between the people, each of them now looking at him with trust, some already bowing their heads, others still in awe. His hands clenched at his sides, the enormity of the moment crashing over him.

"Where do we begin?" Lucas asked, his voice steadying, his gaze now resolute.

The messenger’s eyes softened. "You begin by leading them. You begin by building the foundation that will last. And you begin by showing them that the future is theirs to shape under your guidance."

Lucas turned to Darleen and Andre, both of them watching him with expectation.

"What do you think?" Lucas asked, his voice steady despite the storm raging inside him. "Should we give them a future?"

Darleen’s lips curled into a smile, the faintest hint of admiration in her gaze. "You already have."

They were waiting for him. But even more than that, they were counting on him.

He swallowed hard.

"I don’t have all the answers yet. But I’ll give them a future. We all will." He turned back to the messenger, who stood at attention. "Prepare them. We have a lot of work ahead of us."

The messenger nodded, and the people began to move, their murmurs rising into the air like the soft rustle of leaves.

Lucas stood at the edge of the growing camp, watching the people file in. The sheer number of them was staggering hundreds, maybe even thousands each one weary, desperate, their faces gaunt from hunger and exhaustion. They had journeyed across the stars, from the distant reaches of Planet Tian, and now they were here, standing on his land, their hopes pinned to him.

Haaah...

A sigh escaped his lips, the weight of the responsibility sinking in like a heavy stone in his chest. Lord of Lira? He had barely wrapped his mind around the idea, and now, a whole new civilization was his to guide. It wasn’t just about building a base or winning a battle anymore; this was real. Lives were in his hands, and every choice he made could shape their future one way or another.

He glanced at the crowd again, the murmurs of uncertainty drifting toward him. These people were not warriors. They were survivors. The men were thin, their arms barely strong enough to carry the weight of their own bodies. The women held children close, their faces drawn with worry.

Tch...

The sound of Andre’s voice snapped him from his thoughts. The man stood a few feet away, leaning lazily against a metal crate, eyes scanning the people as if they were little more than objects to be assessed. But there was no mistaking the seriousness in his gaze.

"So, what now?" Andre asked, his voice laced with a kind of detached curiosity. "We can’t just stand here staring at them all day. You have to give them something to do, or they’ll just... sit around waiting for you to do it all."

"I know that, Andre," Lucas replied, his voice sharp. His frustration was simmering beneath the surface, but he couldn’t afford to let it spill over. Not now. Not with so much at stake. "I’m just... trying to figure out how to manage it all. This isn’t something I ever planned for."

Darleen approached, her face calm as always, though her eyes betrayed the concern she felt for Lucas. She placed a hand on his shoulder, her touch gentle but firm. "You don’t have to do it alone. We’ll help you. We all will."

Lucas met her gaze, his eyes searching hers. "I appreciate that, Darleen. But I still don’t know where to start. What do we do with them? How do we even begin?"

"Start with what you know," she suggested softly. "We need to give them something to work with. You have the system, the power to build. We can start constructing the basics shelter, food, water. Once they have that, we can think about what comes next."

Lucas nodded, his mind racing. He had the system, yes. He could use it to establish a foundation for them all, but there was more to it than just construction. These people weren’t soldiers they weren’t trained for the harsh life they would have to endure. They needed guidance. And that was where the real challenge lay.

"I’ll start with the village," Lucas decided, the words falling from his mouth almost instinctively. He turned to the messenger, who had remained silent, watching them carefully from a distance. "We’ll need help, and we’ll need resources."

The messenger nodded, his expression unwavering. "I will organize the people and direct them to the necessary tasks. You have my word, Lord Lucas."

Lucas glanced back at the crowd. They waited for him, their eyes full of expectation. It was like a weight pressing on his chest, but he couldn’t back down now.

"Alright. Let’s get started," he said, his voice firm.

The days that followed were a blur of activity. Lucas and his team worked tirelessly to establish a foothold. The first order of business was to get the people settled and begin constructing shelters. Using the system’s interface, Lucas set the foundations for a rudimentary village, with makeshift tents and wooden huts to house the new arrivals. It wasn’t much, but it was a start.

Darleen had been right providing them with shelter and food was the first step. Without those basics, the rest would be irrelevant. So, she worked alongside the others, organizing them into groups to forage and build, even teaching some of them the basics of hunting. She was a natural leader, her calm demeanor and practical approach giving the people something to hold on to. They respected her. They listened to her.

As for Andre, he had his own way of helping. When he wasn’t lounging around, he was using his spiritual powers to scout the land for resources, ensuring that the available minerals and herbs were properly harvested and distributed. He wasn’t much of a talker, but Lucas knew he was making sure that nothing went to waste.

Despite the steady progress, it was clear that the people of Planet Tian were not ready for the challenges that lay ahead. Many of them were still weak from their journey, their bodies malnourished, their spirits drained. Lucas couldn’t help but notice the blank looks in their eyes, the uncertainty that clouded their every movement. These weren’t warriors. They were civilians, and they had to be trained, or else they would never survive the dangers of this new world.

Crack!

The sound of breaking wood broke Lucas from his thoughts. He looked over to see a young man, no older than eighteen, struggling to hammer a wooden beam into place. Sweat dripped from his brow, and his hands shook from the effort. Lucas felt a pang of sympathy but also something else. A stirring of something deep inside him.

"Hey!" Lucas called, striding over to the young man. "Let me help."

The boy looked up, startled, but nodded gratefully as Lucas took the hammer from his hands. With a few quick strikes, Lucas secured the beam in place. The boy watched him, awe in his eyes.

"Thank you, Lord Lucas," he said, his voice thick with gratitude.

Lucas shook his head. "Don’t thank me. Just... keep working."

As Lucas turned to leave, Darleen approached, her face unreadable. "You’re thinking too hard, aren’t you?"

He shot her a look. "I have to think. They’re depending on us. I’m not going to fail them."

"You won’t," she replied, her voice steady. "But you can’t carry the weight of it all on your own. We’re here. We’ll help you. We just need a plan."

Lucas met her gaze, the weight of her words sinking in. He had been carrying this burden alone, even if only in his mind. But Darleen was right. He couldn’t do it alone. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"I’ll need to start teaching them combat," Lucas said slowly "We need to defend ourselves. We need to be prepared for anything."

Darleen raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure? They’re not fighters, Lucas. This won’t be easy."

"I know," he said, his voice firm. "But we don’t have a choice. If we want to survive here, we have to be ready for whatever comes."

The next few days were a blur of training, organizing, and resource gathering. Lucas found himself increasingly drawn to the task of teaching. He had experience in battle, and though his skills weren’t as refined as some of the greatest warriors he’d known, he was more than capable of imparting basic combat techniques. He began with small groups, teaching them the fundamentals of self-defense, the basic movements, and how to fight with purpose.

At first, the people resisted. They weren’t fighters, and the thought of learning how to kill was foreign to them. But Lucas pushed forward, showing them why they had to learn. Slowly, they began to understand.
