I Bacame the Mother of His Child-Chapter 6 - 5: Eldest Sister Xu Fangfang
Chapter 6: Chapter 5: Eldest Sister Xu Fangfang
Song Yuanhuan was holding a small bag of luggage, watching Xu Xiuxiu who was following behind him with her son in her arms, he slowly began to give instructions, "Your health isn't great, so don't skimp on food to save money when I'm not home. If you're short of funds, write to me, take good care of yourself, and take good care of our son."
He was far away with the military, and she had to handle everything at home by herself, which was somewhat harder compared to the other young wives. Additionally, since her health had declined significantly after giving birth to Cheng Guang and he wouldn't be at home, he naturally did not want her to cut costs on silver coins.
"Alright! Don't worry, I will definitely take good care of our son and myself." Although Xu Xiuxiu felt that Song Yuanhuan's numerous words of concern were only a prelude to his final request to take good care of their son, she still obediently nodded her head.
After all, she would indeed take care of their son and herself, and she meant every word of it.
"I had to return in a hurry this time, and I apologize for not finding the time to accompany you back to your parents' house. Don't be upset about it, carry some gifts and apologize to the elders on my behalf someday. If you run into any trouble at home that you can't solve, you can also seek help from mother. She may be a bit preachy, but her heart is in the right place, mindful of our wellbeing. Just don't take any unpleasant words she says to heart," Song Yuanhuan said, trying to offer comfort. Normally, he would leave without much fuss, but having seen Xu Xiuxiu's improved behavior in the past couple of days, he felt compelled to reassure her. He feared that once he left, she would revert to her old ways.
The other things were of little concern, but he suspected that their son would bear the brunt of it!
"I understand. You take good care of yourself too." Xu Xiuxiu gave Song Yuanhuan a big consoling smile.
"Mhm." Reassured by Xu Xiuxiu's smile, Song Yuanhuan nodded, "I'm leaving now, you should hurry back with Cheng Guang!" He said, as he reached the winding dirt road at the entrance of the village, turning back toward Xu Xiuxiu.
This was the second time she had voluntarily accompanied him to the village entrance in two years. The first time was just after they got married, when his leave ended and he had to report back to the military. Back then, she was a gentle and understanding young woman. Her eyes welled up with tears as she saw him off, reluctant to let him go, which made him feel incredibly guilty for not being able to protect and provide for her at home.
Who would have known that time would gradually change her personality? Upon his return, he had found her temper altered. He thought he might never see her former self again. Unexpectedly, this time he came back to find that she seemed more sensible and measured, emitting a maternal glow when holding Cheng Guang that always left him in awe. Simply because she smiled so beautifully!
"Alright! Be careful on your way. I packed four big meat buns in the lunch box, eat them when you're hungry." Xu Xiuxiu meticulously instructed, meanwhile shifting little Cheng Guang from one arm to the other. Lately, the little one seemed to be learning to walk, constantly wriggling his little legs which made holding him all the more difficult.
"Mhm, you head back!" Song Yuanhuan nodded and then strode away, vanishing around the bend at the end of the dirt road in the blink of an eye.
"Your daddy has gone back to the military now, so let's head home too!" Even though she knew the little one in her arms probably couldn't understand what she was saying, Xu Xiuxiu still patiently told him.
"Okay!" The little one looked down the dirt road, then turned back to Xu Xiuxiu and responded.
"Perfect!" he exclaimed with precise enunciation.
Xu Xiuxiu was taken aback for a moment as she looked at the little one in her arms with a flurry of thoughts. Originally planning to tease the little one and say something to test things out, she saw him starting to drool cutely and call out for 'mommy' again, while babbling in baby talk that Xu Xiuxiu couldn't understand, then laughed off her frustration.
As soon as Song Yuanhuan left, only Xu Xiuxiu and Song Chengguang were left in the house. The first thing Xu Xiuxiu did after taking the little one back to the room was to lull the well-fed child to sleep, and then she darted into the small ten-square-meter space.
Inside the space, it was as always—perpetual springtime without distinction between day and night, living spring water bubbling happily, lotus flowers standing proudly amidst the vibrant colors, and the items Xu Xiuxiu had hoarded were neatly placed in the corner. Xu Xiuxiu excitedly started to rummage through them.
After taking stock, Xu Xiuxiu had a clear inventory of what she had hoarded: five bags of premium rice, three bags of fine flour, three boxes of instant noodles, three big bags of sausages, two sets of four-piece bedding plus two cotton quilts and two soft pillows, three solar lamps, five flashlights, over a dozen baseball bats, and one machete that cost a pretty penny, plus a box of well-known sanitary napkins from a certain brand, and the rest were assorted clothes and shoes.
These were the items Xu Xiuxiu had prepared for the apocalypse, but now that she had been reborn in the eighties, aside from food, the rest seemed not immediately necessary. Also, since items couldn't spoil in the space, Xu Xiuxiu dismissed the idea of taking the food out to eat and decided to leave them in the space for the time being.
When she darted out of the space, little Cheng Guang was fast asleep, lying on his side towards the wall, presenting his little bottom in her direction—a truly adorable sight. She reached forward to pull the thin blanket over him and then turned to survey the shabby room.
This room needed a good tidying up!
After a brief silence, Xu Xiuxiu couldn't sit still any longer and stood up, busying herself by rearranging the furniture in the room. This made the space look much more spacious and comfortable. Worn out from the exertion, she took the opportunity to use the living spring water from the space to take a bath, emerging feeling wonderfully fresh and invigorated.

As noon approached, having taken care of some small household matters, Xu Xiuxiu made some noodles for lunch and reserved some to boil until soft for little Cheng Guang to eat, followed by feeding him a cup of Panda Brand condensed milk after the meal.
They say children change every day, and it couldn't be truer. She had only been here a few days, and the little one had already undergone significant changes, no longer looking as pale and unkempt as before. This filled Xu Xiuxiu with a sense of satisfaction; he was thriving under her meticulous care!
"Xiuxiu, are you in there?" Just as Xu Xiuxiu was about to take a nap with the little one after a full meal, a calling voice came from the yard.
"Eldest Sister Xu, I'm here!" Hearing the familiar call, Xu Xiuxiu popped her head out of the window, saw it was the original other's eldest sister, Xu Fangfang, and responded indifferently before quickly going to open the door.
Eldest Sister Xu, Xu Fangfang, stepped inside, "Look at you, acting all aggrieved. Why the long face? I only said a few words to you, and it was all for your own good. But you, girl, had to take it the wrong way. It's been three or four days; are you still upset?" Xu Fangfang spoke in a softer tone as she looked at her younger sister who seemed expressionless.
"Not at all!" Whether the original other was upset or not, she didn't know, but she had simply forgotten about it these past few days.
