I Became a Scoundrel of a Chaebol Family-Chapter 382
- In the past week alone, over 330 criminals have been executed on the spot. With nearly 50 people losing their lives each day, and the number of executions breaking new records daily, citizens’ anxiety continues to grow.
- It's been less than two months since the war on crime was declared, and already the total number of summary executions has reached nearly 2,000. Amid concerns of excessive use of state power and human rights violations, protests continue daily in front of City Hall, but the Incheon municipal government remains silent, doubling down on enforcement.
- This morning, Mayor Jung Min-a submitted a legislative request to the city council immediately after the first city affairs meeting of the term. Her office named “undocumented illegal immigrants” as the primary cause of Incheon’s security instability, urging swift legal action to establish a framework [N O V E L I G H T] for forced deportation and population control.
Peaceful(?) Incheon, as always.
Reports of people being executed by summary judgment on the news are nothing new anymore.
Jung Min-a may shrink into a meek little “Minji-ah 2” in front of me, but she’s got quite the drive and guts—pushing things through with explosive force.
Thanks to her, the news is now filled daily with stories like “several people were blown up by Dominators today,” or “a suspect who resisted arrest was shot dead by police.”
The average number of executions per day now hovers around forty.
And even that number is creeping toward fifty these days. It’ll probably keep going up for a while.
Back at the start, the system wasn’t even properly set up, and a lot of time was wasted on prep. But now? They’re rolling out full nationwide deployment of police, prosecutors, and even the military.
If I had to guess, we might even break the hundred mark soon.
Not that that’s much. That’s just 3,000 a month. Considering Incheon’s size and the fact that there are millions of undocumented illegal immigrants, that’s barely a drop in the bucket.
For reference, there’s even a research institution that released data claiming the number of illegal immigrants in Incheon exceeds 20 million.
Personally, I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but still—there are definitely millions. And even if not all of them are criminals, killing a hundred a day won’t make a dent.
Well... that’s just the summary executions we’re talking about.
If we include arrests and indictments, the actual number is probably several dozen times higher.
- The draft bill has already been written. I’ve sent it to your office.
“Yeah? Got it. I’ll take a look, so make sure it’s WWE enough to pass smoothly.”
- Understood.
“What about the Heo Ye-won committee appointment?”
- Still being negotiated. Since the Intelligence Oversight Committee deals with national security beyond just the city level, we need final approval from central government. But there shouldn't be any major issues.
“Okay. I trust you. If anything looks iffy, call me immediately. I’ll handle it.”
- Yes.
After ending the call with Joo Hyun-ah, the newly appointed floor leader of the Peace Nuri Incheon Party, I received the draft bill through Seung-hee.
Most of what I’d requested was already in it. Nothing stood out as problematic—it was a well-crafted, clean draft.
Of course, “clean” is from my perspective.
For normal people, it’s pretty much a knife to the throat.
Outwardly, it’s a special law for managing undocumented immigrants in Incheon. But if you take a closer look, there’s a terrifying clause that allows surveillance and scoring of every citizen’s behavior and thoughts.
Naturally, this is intended to feed directly into the Koryo Credit Rating System I’ve been preparing—becoming the foundation for a new class-based hierarchy. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
This is, essentially, a follow-up move to Mayor Jung Min-a submitting the bill request this morning.
Could’ve just had Jung Min-a submit the whole bill as city legislation, but this way is probably better right now.
If she handled everything herself, all the roles and attention would pile onto her.
Better to let the new party take some credit and grow for now.
“I don’t see any problems with it.”
“There really aren’t. From your perspective, Master.”
“Send it to Kang Hanbyul at Koryo Credit. Have them review it. If they say it’s clean, go ahead and propose it.”
“Yes.”
After that, I made a few more calls.
I gave instructions to Kim Eun-ji (district mayor and party leader), Mayor Jung Min-a, Police Chief Do Yoon-jung, and Prosecutor General Yang Soyu—all key figures—and made sure they would move exactly how I wanted.
Then suddenly—
Bzzzt.
A call came to me.
I’d been calling so many people nonstop that I answered without even checking the screen. But then, a familiar voice poured through the receiver.
“You seem busy. Your line’s been tied up constantly.”
“Huh—Min-young?”
No less than Go Min-young.
Something happened—wait, don’t tell me the knights are already ready??
“I’m talking about your second exclusive knight. Her custom equipment is complete.”
“Ah... the custom armament...”
“Why do you sound disappointed? Were you expecting something else?”
“N-no. Custom armament is important too, of course.”
...Totally forgot.
Our Eun-hwa’s custom loadout...
“Well, I guess with 13 new knights being added, it’s not strange to forget about one piece of gear.”
“...”
“But there’s something more important.”
“What? Don’t tell me—”
“No, the knight isn’t ready yet. But there’s something I need to discuss with you seriously. I heard you’re developing a new credit rating system?”
“Oh... you mean the Credit Ratings? Yeah. That’s right.”
What’s going on?
What do Militaris and the credit system have to do with each other?
“It’s a bit sensitive to talk about over the phone. I’d like you to come to Dalian. Bring Minji too.”
“With Minji-noona?”
“Yes.”
Now I really have no clue what’s coming.
It’s about the credit ratings I’m developing with Koryo Credit—but she wants Minji there too?
What the hell is she planning to say?
Then again, she personally called, so it must be important.
Probably best to go as soon as possible.
My schedule can be shifted around if needed, but the real question is Minji’s availability.
Would she even have time?
“I already spoke to Minji. She’ll match your schedule.”
“Oh, really? Then... how about this weekend?”
“Hmm... this weekend won’t work. Minji and I are free, but you won’t be.”
“...Me?”
How would you know that?
“You’ll find out soon enough. A meeting next week would be more appropriate.”
“Alright. Got it.”
“Call me when it’s decided.”
“Okay.”
The call ended without much ceremony.
Normally, even if the main topic was done, we’d keep chatting or even joke around about dirty stuff, but this time she hung up right away. Maybe she’s busy with something.
Everything feels a bit off today.
Especially that line—“Minji and I are fine, but you won’t be.”
Does she know my whole schedule? Even if she does, I can adjust it if I want.
But I found out the reason soon enough.
“...Master.”
Seung-hee, who had just received something from a secretary, approached me cautiously.
“They want you to come up to Pyongyang.”
“...Pyongyang? Grandfather?”
“Yes. His office reached out.”
“Why?”
It’s not even close to Victory Day.
“They didn’t give a clear reason. Just that it’s related to the Main Factory...”
“Main Factory...”
If it’s the Main Factory—
“Oh, fuck.”
RK-99...!
The facility that manufactures the ambient-pressure, room-temperature superconducting RK-99 paste for supply to Militaris!
They also produce Sinabro there, but there’s no way Grandfather would summon me all the way to Pyongyang just for that.
If he’s calling me about the Main Factory, then it’s 99.99% because of RK-99.
Wait, how the fuck did this get exposed?? Only Baek Seol and I know about it!
There’s no way Baek Seol betrayed me or leaked it.
If she could, she wouldn’t be a proper exclusive knight.
Then how...?
...Didn’t Aunt refuse the audit from the Militaris Group recently?
If Grandfather thought that was odd and started digging into the details—and caught wind of some shady dealings between me and Aunt—then tracked it to RK-99, which is being manufactured at Militaris...
If Grandfather realized that I’ve been producing and delivering RK-99 paste...
Then yeah, summoning me to Pyongyang makes total sense.
“He’s asked you to come this weekend.”
“Ugh.”
Suddenly, I felt like I couldn’t breathe.
I was coordinating the whole thing with Aunt to use it at the perfect moment, and now that Grandfather got wind of it first, I’m the guy who secretly hoarded the cheat code that could change the fate of the entire Group.
Granted, since I was doing it with Go Min-young, the Vice Chair of the Group and head of Militaris, it could be seen as forgivable...
But on the flip side, it could look like she and I were conspiring behind his back to secretly develop RK-99.
And she’s the Vice Chair. The second-in-command of the entire Group.
If Grandfather decides to take it the wrong way, it could look like a backstab from the No. 2.
But surely... it won’t go that far, right?
Thinking optimistically, maybe I’ll just get praised and it ends there.
It’s RK-99, after all. The “dream material,” a room-temperature, ambient-pressure superconductor.
Just the existence of it is a historic achievement worth an entire affiliate company on its own.
The real issue is that I hid it.
I love you, Grandfather. I promise to be a good grandson.
“Tell him I’ll come up this weekend.”
“Yes, Master.”
