I Became a Vicious Supporting Role in the '70s-Chapter 311: Leisure Time
Chapter 311: Chapter 311: Leisure Time
Shen Meng ate with a cold expression on her face, while Mingyang beside her glanced at her and then lowered his head. Ming Liang and Ming Fang exchanged looks but didn’t intervene. Tense and on edge, the troublemaker Lu Mingkai was scarfing down his rice deliciously, his face still wet with tears he hadn’t wiped away, finishing a bowl of rice in no time.
His stubbornness was almost unbearable to watch.
"After you finish eating, go out and play. Mom is going out for a while and won’t be back until later. I’ve been idle all day and have something to take care of. Mingyang, you have the house keys. If you get tired of playing outside, go home and sleep or do your homework. If something comes up, go find your Brother Xiao Long, got it?"
"Got it."
The children were very obedient, especially when she was angry. Even Lu Mingkai muttered in agreement, but his eyes still showed defiance.
"You know nothing, if you really knew, you wouldn’t cause trouble. What if you had caused grandma to fall and get hurt or be blamed, how would you handle that? Mom works hard to make money, and if it ends up in grandma’s pocket, it would break my heart."
"I didn’t do it, I was careful, she’s fine, hmph, who told her to always steal cucumbers from our private plot? And she steals the big old ones, hoarding them for her family. Why should she? I planted them, they’re mine."
"Stealing is stealing, but you shouldn’t have taken grandma’s walking stick while she was in the outhouse, aren’t you disgusted by the stench?"
"Hmph!"
Shen Meng looked at him and felt a headache coming on. She couldn’t handle it, but Ming Fang could. With just one glaring look, Mingkai didn’t even dare to breathe heavily.
Mom wouldn’t bear to hit him, but sister wouldn’t hesitate to really smack him, and she didn’t hold back.
After dinner, Daqing and Erqing came over with Yaoyao and Xiao Gang to find Mingyang and the others to play. Shen Meng chased all of them off to the private plot.
While other people’s private plots were mostly filled with grain crops, she grew vegetables and fruit. There were six grape plants under a small shed, and beneath it, Shen Meng had placed a small wooden bed with a cooling mat on top - the kids’ favorite spot.
"Go and have fun. The watermelons are ripe. If you get tired, Mingyang, you can pick one and share it. Look after your siblings and don’t go to the river or the foot of the mountain, got it?"
"Got it, mom. You hurry up and head out!"
"Okay."
Talking nonsense, Shen Meng was spouting nonsense. She was just craving snail noodles and wanted to eat them. The kids were all at home, so it was inconvenient to enter the space. Now was the perfect opportunity to indulge her cravings under the pretext of having wrapped up the stuff at home and at the factory.
She had planned to ride her bike out, but then remembered she had lent it to Wu Xianglan who hadn’t returned it. So she simply went and borrowed one from the village.
Riding the bike towards the direction of the county town, she suddenly disappeared from view.
If there had been anyone on the road, they would have thought they’d seen a ghost.
Shen Meng stretched luxuriously after entering the space, then went to the room to take a comfortable bath, lying on her big bed with the TV turned on. She watched two movies and started to yawn as she watched.
Upon waking, she prepared a bowl of snail noodles and a fried pork trotter for herself. She didn’t skimp on desserts and milk tea either, all recently made and brought into the space to preserve their original flavors.
During this visit to the space, she picked out some delicious things to eat and drink, all repacked in modern packaging before she rode her bike back out.
When she got home, all the kids were sleeping in the house, with unfinished homework spread out on the table.
Having spent a comfortable afternoon, Shen Meng had nothing else to do and thought about the design sketches Li Qianqian had mentioned. She scribbled and sketched on paper too, but her drawings were somewhat abstract, nothing like what a trained designer would produce.
But after all, she was a person who had seen the world in the future, so she could provide some inspiration.
When Mingyang and the others woke up, they went to the yard to wash up, and when they wanted to do homework in the main hall, they saw the table filled with food and drinks. Ming Kai was overjoyed and dashed over, grabbing a drink and starting to sip.
"Wow~ Mom’s not angry anymore, Mom really loves me the most."
After he finished speaking, he started to eat without any response from his older siblings, but he didn’t mind because the small cake was way too sweet.
He liked it so much.
If only Mom could be at home every day, then he could eat delicious food every day.
"Mom, what are you doing, can all this be eaten? Should we put it away?"
"Eat, eat, no need to put it away. If you can’t finish, take it to Xiao Gang and Ni. Oh, and Mom brought back meals from the county. Whenever you’re hungry, Mom will heat it up for you."
"Great!"
Shen Meng paused in her drawing and glanced outside, the kids had cream all over their mouths, looking adorably messy.
Electricity had already reached Lu Family Village, aside from the Head Flower Factory, it was just the large commune office and Shen Meng’s home that were willing to run electrical wiring.
Shen Meng was nestled on the kang bed, looking at her mobile phone; the children were still not back outside. She frowned slightly, got up, and walked to the gate of the courtyard. Before she could speak, she heard a commotion.
Is there something exciting to see?
She opened the door and looked outside, well, the four kids from home were desperately squeezing forward. They were not returning home this late just for the excitement of it.
In the Lu Family Old Mansion, Wu Xianglan’s five brothers, each at the forefront, dark and obviously hard laborers, Lu Jiahe looked like a small mantis in front of them, as if he could be squashed in an instant.
Now they were charging into the yard, demanding the old couple of the Lu Family give an explanation.
"My sister has been married into your family for so many years, without credit but with hard toil. This despicable grandson has gone and messed around, not only getting involved with a loose woman but also giving my sister’s hard-earned money to his lover, heh, as if the Wu Family has no one to stand for it?"
"That’s right, who’s that woman, I’m going to smash her face in today."
"You, the old couple, have really stirred up a mess here. My sister has endured for the sake of her children for so long, and you are being greedy, not only lacking gratitude but also trying to take money from her, what are your intentions, really? Are Yong Qiang and Yong Li not blood of the Old Lu Family or what? You favor your sons but not your grandchildren, I spit on that. Wait until you’re old, let’s see who you can rely on?"
Lu Changzhu waved his hands at the five brothers of the Wu Family.
"My nephews, don’t go on, come inside and have some tea, let’s talk it over, really, everything can be discussed."
"That’s right, what can’t be settled amicably? Why resort to violence? Come inside. It’s all family matters; we can’t let others see and laugh at us."
...
The old couple of the Lu Family were trying to pacify the Wu Family people, and Lu Jiahe didn’t dare to even fart. Wu Xianglan was holding a child in each hand, and her gaze swept over Lu Jiahe, rolling her eyes at him, despising what a cowardly thing he was, wondering what she had seen in such a filthy thing back then.
