Chapter 126: A Warm Tent in a Cold World

The river was very long, but because the water was rushing so fast, it didn’t take too long for them to reach the cliff that led outside.

Roxanna could already see it. The cliff was only a few meters away. All of them were standing on the log now, getting ready to jump to the ledge above the deep drop.

She wasn’t sure if she could jump that high. Her heart was beating fast, and her palms felt a little sweaty. Still, she knew there was no choice but to try.

Besides, Cyrus looked very confident. He truly believed he could make the jump, and as long as he managed to grab the ledge, all of them would be safe.

But one thought still bothered her. Were his hands really strong enough to hold all three of them?

For a moment, Roxanna couldn’t help but worry, but when the time finally came, she realized something important: her husbands were much stronger than she had ever thought.

"Jump!" Cyrus shouted.

In just a few seconds, all of them jumped at the same time.

Roxanna had been worried about whether she could jump that high. But the moment she leaped, she was shocked that her body moved faster and higher than she had expected, as if it knew what to do on its own.

Before she realized it, she had already reached the ledge above the cliff.

Her hands quickly grabbed onto the rough rock. She held on tightly, afraid to let go. Her heart was pounding hard in her chest. When she accidentally glanced down, her breath caught in her throat.

It was so high. For a second, her legs felt weak.

"Don’t look down!" Luan shouted loudly.

His voice snapped her back to her senses, so Roxanna quickly lifted her head and forced herself to look up instead.

"I see a wide place where we can rest for a while," Cyrus said as he pointed to the place above with his chin. "I noticed it earlier when I was watching this area in my bird form."

Roxanna nodded. "Alright. Let’s climb up there."

"You can shift into your fox form if you want," Luan said gently. "I can carry you. It won’t be a problem."

Cyrus had already taken the bag from Roxanna, so she didn’t have to carry anything anymore. Still, she felt uneasy because she didn’t want to be the only one doing nothing while both of her husbands were working so hard.

"I’m fine," Roxanna said firmly. "Besides, this is good training for my stamina and strength."

Her husbands exchanged a quick look. They knew she wouldn’t change her mind, so they decided not to argue.

"If you say so," Luan replied. "Just make sure the rope around your waist stays tight while we climb."

Roxanna nodded quickly and started climbing the steep cliff with them.

Even though her body was stronger than before, it was still difficult. She had never climbed a cliff this steep in her life, so she had to move carefully and slowly.

Her arms soon began to ache, and her breathing grew heavier. But every time she almost slipped, one of her husbands would quickly grab her and pull her back, keeping her safe.

They climbed for nearly forty minutes before finally reaching a flat area where they could rest. It wasn’t very wide, but it was enough for the three of them to lay down and catch their breath.

Roxanna let out a long sigh and looked up at the sky. "The sky looks quite dark."

She stretched her arms and back, trying to ease the soreness in her muscles because every part of her body felt tired after the hard climb.

Fortunately, her healing ability worked quickly. In just a short time, her hands were completely fine, without a single cut, even though she had been holding onto sharp rocks the whole way up.

"I think it’s going to rain soon," Luan said as he placed the bag on the ground. Then he turned to Roxanna. "I know you want to reach the top as soon as possible, but it looks like we really have to stay here for a while. Climbing in heavy rain will be very difficult for us."

Since they were already deep in the steep mountain area, there weren’t many safe places to move forward. The narrow paths and slippery rocks would become even more dangerous once the rain started.

Roxanna looked up at the darkening sky and sighed softly. Thick clouds were slowly gathering above them, blocking the sunlight.

"You’re right," she said after a moment. "It’s too risky to keep climbing like this."

Cyrus nodded in agreement. "If the rocks get wet, it’ll be easy to slip. Resting here is the safer choice."

Luan opened the bag and took out the tent along with a few supplies. "Let’s set up the tent and then eat a little to save our strength," he said. "Once the rain stops, we’ll continue."

Roxanna had already explained everything about the tent and the other camping supplies before, so now they understood how to set it up properly.

The three of them worked together without wasting time.

Cyrus held the poles while Luan spread the fabric across the rocky ground. Roxanna carefully fixed the corners and tied the ropes, making sure everything was secure.

Even though the wind was starting to blow stronger, they managed to finish setting up the tent in just a few minutes.

Not long after that, the first drops of rain began to fall.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Soon, the light rain turned heavier, hitting the rocks and the tent with soft but steady sounds.

Roxanna quickly crawled inside and sat down, pulling her knees close to her chest. "Good timing," she said with a small smile. "If we were any later, we’d be soaked."

Cyrus followed her in and laughed softly. "Looks like we made the right choice."

Luan entered last and closed the tent opening carefully. The small space inside suddenly felt warm and safe, separating them from the cold rain outside.

Roxanna sat quietly between them, holding the warm heating stone close to her body. Little by little, the cold faded away.

Outside, the sound of rain tapping against the tent felt soft and gentle. For some reason, it made her feel calm and safe, especially after everything scary they had just been through.

"You know..." Luan said with a small laugh, breaking the silence. "The others will probably be jealous when they find out how many adventures we’re having here. Maybe Calen will even get mad when he hears that he missed something this exciting."

Roxanna smiled and laughed softly.

She could already imagine Calen would be complaining, sulking, and saying it wasn’t fair.

"He really would," she said, still smiling.

After all, Calen had always been the type who loved thrilling and dangerous activities.

And this trip? It was exactly this kind of fun.

"He will be fine," Luan said once again. It sounded like he was trying to comfort Roxanna, but for some reason, she felt that he was also reassuring himself.

"I know," Roxanna replied softly. She lowered her head and stared at the floor of the tent for a moment. Her fingers lightly traced the fabric beneath her, lost in thought.

After a while, she whispered, "When he wakes up... maybe we can go camping together. All six of us."

Her lips curved into a small smile. "That would be fun, right?"

"Like the one you told us about before?" Cyrus asked softly. "The summer camp?"

Roxanna nodded. "Yes. Something like that."

As they waited for the rain to stop, Roxanna slowly began to share her story about summer camp. It was the time when she had to stay in the forest for a whole week with her high school friends.

"There were so many people there," she said softly. "But... since I didn’t have many friends, I was alone most of the time."

She paused for a moment before continuing. "Even my closest friend chose to spend more time with other groups. But I didn’t blame her. I mean... maybe I really was boring."

Her fingers tightened slightly around the heating stone. "I didn’t even know what was special about me," she admitted. "So I always felt like I didn’t really belong anywhere..."

Her voice grew softer at the end, almost fading into the sound of the rain outside.

"You’re not boring!" Luan said immediately. "I don’t believe that for a second."

He turned toward her, his eyes full of seriousness. "You’re kind. You listen to people. You always think about others before yourself," he continued. "How can someone like that be boring?"

Cyrus nodded in agreement. "He’s right," he added. "You’re easy to talk to. Being with you feels comfortable. That’s not something everyone can do."

Roxanna couldn’t help but smile. [They must think that way because the evil Roxanna was truly cruel and always made them feel uncomfortable.]

[Of course they would choose me. After all, their standards were already low because of that evil woman.]
